Tropico 3 Gold Edition review
I got bored to the campaign after about five missions and sticked to custom games where are more options and freedom to try things. I'd say this is a pretty easy game when you get the hang of it but some things have to be tested for how they work best and it may not have any common sense in it. Put the town full of one type of garden item (which can be a couple of trees) and the 'beauty' goes up. But there was already forest everywhere around, who wants gardens? Things like that. There's also some rebel attacks which have to be repelled with soldiers and also attacks from USA or USSR which I haven't seen in my gameplay. There's much to fool around with and you can simulate different free-form challenges in custom games.
Tropico 3 Gold Edition review
I wish I could give this game 5 stars, because it is very fun "city-builder" to play with its own unique charm. However, eventually the missions all start to feel very similar, and many of the little touches that seemed so charming at first start to irritate as you see/hear them again and again. Definitely worth a look, though, if you're into city sims.
Tropico 3 Gold Edition review
Overall, while an interesting concept full of humor, I find the game a bit disappointing due to clunky interface and limited replay value.
Good:
Great Latin american dictatorial feeling with lots of humor and tongue-in-cheek jokes.
Interesting and varied ways to build and develop an economy. You can be a true banana republic, an industrialist or a tourist trap.
Bad:
All the missions look alike. Build up your economy to achieve goal x with various sticks thrown in the way.
Once you find the secret sauce to start up, you have pretty much beaten the game.
Placing buildings and roads is a pain. The developers wanted to give more leeway into designing a city, but it is actually hard to replicate a normal city.
There is little information given about the mechanics of the game. What building does what or how many farms are needed to feed people is something that you will learn the hard way
Tropico 3 Gold Edition review
To get the most out of this amazing package with brilliant graphics, fun missions and unexpected events, I would recommend donwloading, playing and finishing Tropico 3 first before installing the expansion, as the expansion effects the original which can change the experiences. 25 missions, unlimited sandbox play and probably over 800 user created challenges (!) ensure that the fun and variety never ends in Tropico!
Tropico 3 Gold Edition review
Hey El Presidente! This is a game for you. Are you dreaming a good carrier in Tropico? You're not alone! You can choose your avatar, you can set up buildings, taxes even you can export things.
The tropico 3 has sandbox, "story", even achievements!
Tropico 3 Gold Edition review
Well, this game has 3 modi: Sandbox, 2 campaign (original and addon), you can play it on multiplayer and has archievements.
You must be careful and hear at your folk, because they can be rebels and try to destroy your palace.
Your folk want good salaries, support of medicine, food and entertainment. It can be difficult in early stages but if you pass first problems, then you will be successful and this game will be very easy to play.
Tropico 3 Gold Edition review
Remotely similar Games: simcity/Anno 19whatever
Amusing Light Simulator of a small Tropical Island goberned by a you ("El Presidente"),
a President/Dictator during the time of the Cold war.
Pro:
Good carribean Music, easy Learning Curve,Lots of different Islands/Scenarios with funny Missions,All in all very well done and fun "Banana Republic"Simulator.
Graphics are not the top of the Hardware Possibilities 2011,but still very good.
Gameplay snippets:
You can do lots of things like customizing the Perks/faults of your little president dude, which is walking around among your people,or choose a preset parody of real VIPs like Trotzky or Che Guevera.
Your little Avatar even does things on his own if you dont give him orders, like raising the morale at a logging camp with a little speech.
But Mainly its a Sim where u build Stuff like Harbors,Casinos,Cigar factories, hotels,Bars,Barracks,Police stations,Roads,Airports and so on.
You decide about Healthcare,Tax,Foreign Alliances with Cold War Blocks, foreign aid,Immigration Policies...
Nevertheless it manages to stay easily accessible and fun
Its possible to be a cruel Dictator with lots of Military (and Rebels),or a wise Father Figure caring for your people with Free housing, cinemas, tropical Bars.
You can even be both, treating your people well, nonetheless secretly assasinating your opponents in an election year.
All your People have simlike bars like fatigue/happiness/political opinion and so on.
Cons:
- a little one: in the endgame scenarios there are no new buildings/gameplay elements added to the game, only the mission goals vary
Fazit:
Good amusing game with Charme
Tropico 3 Gold Edition review
A very nice city-builder with some politics involved, very fun! I would recommend this game to those who love city simulations, strategy fans, or anyone interested in a beautiful game. The bundle includes the original game and its DLC, which is a MUST in my opinion. Buy this bundle, it's only $2.50 right now!
