The Sims Medieval UK review

Im not a huge fan of the Sims but i can undersand why someone would be. The customisation, escapism and just good fun is clear to be seen in the sims franchise even if with all the barely packed expansions making the whole game a bit of a rip off.

This game, however, is pretty abysmal. If your a Sims fan and fancy more of the same in a medieval setting then you will be dissapointed. There is very little for you to do in regards to customisation, choice or freedom.

If your expecting an RPG or quest simulator you will again be dissapointed as its attempts at both are pretty much laughable.

This game is just not fun. Not even a bit.

This is my first ever Sims game - usually this sort of thing doesn't interest me. But this particular Sims is a little bit like an RPG, where each Sim can complete quests and gain a little XP leading to further development. It's like a little book of RPG short stories. There is even some choice - if you have an 'evil' Sim the game knows this and often provides you with an 'evil' path.

Pro's: The game is humorous, and has good production qualities. Many of the quests are quite clever and well written. Graphics and sound are nice but not great. Cons: Repetition. Quests start to repeat themselves fairly quickly, and each game day you have a number of chores to finish before you can go and do what you want your Sim to do (well, you can ignore them, but you are punished for it). These chores actually feel like chores, which is generally not what you want to feel like while playing a game!

This is a good game, and with less repetition and more variety could have been a great one. It just squeaks in at 4 stars - really I feel it is more 3 and a half at this moment. DLC is being generated for it though, I gather, so it may yet reach this potential. Overall, I'd recommend this game to people who like kingdom simulators or are looking for a light and humorous RPG.

I bought this game and I must say I am quite impressed. Pros : It's fun, the Sim's series spirit is truly well expressed in this game, and some of the quests are impressively fun. If you want to make a good gift, it's the kind of game you can rely on.

Cons : The game repeat itself after some time in the quest mode. In the sandbox mode, it's something you're expecting. Not in quest mode, unfortunately.

I would have liked being able to design myself the castles...

The game also use a securom technique hiding itself from Windows API, like if it was a rootkit, adding a new entry to rootkit revealer... It's certainly effective, but really shameful.

Anyway, it's really a funny game, with the Sim's humoristic touch.

Its alright i suppose.

The quests keep you busy, and its all about the quests.

You are told what you need to do at all times and there are hardly any time to do some thing else.

The game want you to take your time though, you are rewarded with more XP for your character and kingdom for not rushing your current quest.

Your Sim have daily chores depending on his or her class, and when you do them it has a positive effect on both your quest progress, XP and the Sims mood.

At first i thought i would only play the knight and wizard, but classes like the blacksmith can be quite fun. Making your goods then open the shop and selling it feels rewarding.

You are a little involved in the crafting progress, you cant just leave your Sim to it as you need to tell the Sim what to do so he don't destroy the item or just mess it up badly.

you cant build on any of the buildings, only change its inside.

All the buildings are bought using points you get from quests, and there is only one look to each building.

Ones the building is placed you can create your hero that live and work in that building.

You only control the character you currently have chosen a quest for. some times a quest require several Sims to cooperate then you can control more Sim's at once.

Some quests are made to complete with the Monarch, so you cant chose which Sim you want to complete the quest, while others you can chose who ever you want.

The classes have different ways of handling the task at hand, so the game play varies a little there.

For example, the assassin has a different idea on how to murder the king than the physician has. That is, if you have grown tired of your king or queen and want them gone you chose that quest.

Music and graphics are great.

Story telling is fun.

But there a little customisation options for your Sims, in clothing and furniture.

Its not a Sims 3 game, it has a total different focus.

I think the game is just fine. Its a little like Majesty, only that you control your heroes... And its a little like the Sims 3.
