This game is really amazing if you are a history fan. It's not your regular strategy game. This game puts emphasis on kings, dukes and counts as people and their relations and interactions during the medieval age. You can only succeed in this game if you are a master of intrigue. Lies, assassinations, arranged marriages, making of alliances and breaking of alliances, this are all important parts of the medieval setting that can be experienced in the game. If you never have played a Paradox game, your first experience with the game may not be the best one, especially because the tutorial is almost non-existent and the manual doesn't manage to explain every detail of the game. But if you can overlook that you can discover this magnificent gem of a game and will have a blast while playing it.

I have to say that this isn't really my cup of tea, but it's definitely a great game if you're into this sort of thing. It's exceptionally deep and complex and fans of the genre will likely be able to spend hundreds of hours getting into it, so in that sense it's a good value. I found the graphics and interface clunky and unappealing though.

I would cautiously recommend this title on the condition that you're a fan of this type of game (I'm not).

Crusader Kings is (at least i think so) an extremely complicated game which is hard to learn and much harder to master(if possible.) After playing for around twenty-thirty minutes i still had no idea what was going on. But this type of genre in gaming is not my type of game,yet it was still disappointing because this game was developed by tale-worlds, which i think, is a very good games producer. All in all i would recommend this game to Strategy lovers who have some experience of very complicated games.

Guide your dynasty through the middle-age and conquer Europe in this challenging strategy game.

Rewarding and exciting gameplay with many open ends. Might be a bit old, but ages with style and will let you enjoy it for hours and hours.

Where Europa Universalis focuses on managing a nation and attempting to grow said nation in power and landmass, Crusader Kings focuses on the various Knightly orders you would encounter during the middle ages in Europe. Your goal here is to grow your order as prestigious and pious as you possibly can. While the game feels less micro-managementish than the Europa universalis series, Deus Vult did a valiant effort in adding a variety of exciting new functions to the game aswell as a graphical overhaul to the original game, unfortunately the UI in the game leaves alot to be wanted but by the time you let yourself get swallowed up by this game you will forget all about the poor UI and suffer from a sever case of massive Fun.

Combine this with the possibility to continue the adventures in EU2 on the same save and it is a proper winner. In my eyes it is a true masterpiece among strategy games.

This game have a different focus in comparisson with Europa Universalis/Rome. In this game you have to manage your dinasty instead of a kingdom, now the fun: you can start the game as a simple count, with only a county, and, through wars, marriages, alliances and false claim, you can ascend to duke, or even to king.

The game don't have a nice inrface or graphics in general (yes, it is old), but the fun factor is 10!

I am a big fan of strategy games and the middle ages.

Its quite open ended, but once you settle in you will be drawn towards the larger thrones.

Starting in Rogaland ending up as a vassal under the english throne before you suddenly are the king of wales and the english king after a generation or two has to succumb to you.

I've played this game more than any other game else.

However when I found out how to mod savegames it lost its charm.

A in depht grand strategy game. Its a certain must have for hardcore strategy gamers who dont care much about graphics.

The game is basicly guiding your noble dinasty through the middle ages, while increasing your

realm and micromanaging your provinces and diplomacy.

Go crusade, jihade or just conquer everything you can.

Crusader Kings Complete, well just great.

You can begin as a count and try to get power with military, diplomatic, or breeding way.

Marry the doll of a foreign duke have one son and kill the foreign count to grab the title, vassal and territories.

Or you can use military force grab title, take vassal.

Maybe one of the easier paradoxe interactive game.

But a very good old game.

Overall this game adds an interesting premise to the usual role of simply running the country and encourages you to plot against everyone around you, including family and fellow countrymen. However the graphics are not great compared to more recent games based on similar engines.

As a fan of Paradox Interactive's other games, this one came as an interesting departure from the usual formula in that you control a single character (and his descendants), rather than an entire nation. This helps give the game a more personal feel that definitely improves the immersion. If any negatives are to be found, they are that the graphics are by know quite dated, and that the learning curve is quite steep. Don't let that scare you away though! This is definitely one of the best gems of the medieval strategy genre.

This game still shines despite its age. For people interested in this period of history, it has a fairly accurate model of the feudal structure in Europe from the time - and the only game on the market that even tries, in my opinion. If you're coming from most other Paradox games, it does have a bit of a learning curve, because of its emphasis on dynasty over nation, but, once you understand this general, underlying theme, you begin to understand.

To me, the graphics are secondary, but they definitely show their age in this game. Obviously, Crusader Kings II's graphics will be much better. But the graphics do not, in any way, detract from the experience of this jewel of medieval strategy.

Overall, I just didn't care for this game. It had many interesting aspects and was amusing for a bit. Most of all, I hated the interface & game mechanics. I found it cumbersome & awkward, especially the combat portion. It was too slow & way too much work & too much learning curve. There was the makings of a really great game in there, but only if it were streamlined quite a bit, with better interface & documentation.

If you are a strategy game fan who is interested in early and high medieval history, appreciating an accuracy of details (like modeling actual feudal structure), "Crusader Kings" with its expansion "Deus Vult" is the only game on market that is capable to please you at a highest extent. Strongly recommended!
