Cities in Motion Collection review

A nice collection and a great game! The start can be a little difficult, but after some time you will be able to build a network that works and makes a lot of money. The graphics are nice and the cities and buildings look very detailed. Some of the included DLCs really enhance the fun, most of all the one that offers new underground stations! Be aware that this game is not too much about realism - but the abstractions and simplifications really don't hurt this one.

Very nice and solid transport simulator with a fair model behind. You really need most of DLCs, specially the metro one. Full modable with a very large community with good mods to improve the game with maps, units and even others game mechanics. Documentation very complete and lots of communities guides to give more info.

Lots of replayability since there are more than a way to do things and you can do your own map, get lots of them at community or test mods.

But it is a complex game, hard to master, so I think it is more for genre fans.

I can't say I love this game, but if you're craving for a Transport Tycoon Deluxe sort of game, you might find this somewhat enjoyable. The big huge difference however may turn you off and that is in CiM, you're just a consumer transport company. Meaning you move people around the city.

The graphics are crisp and detailed in terms of the city visuals. You can zoom in and zoom out and the tidbits of animation here and there really add a nice touch to the overall feel. However, I noticed that the colours are somewhat pastel-like and not too diverse.

Game play mechanics include a tutorial which is not always straight forward. The overall interface needs some work in terms of what controls what and the logic behind it seems a bit off.

If you ever thought TTD was about a B+ and above, then CiM is about a C or C+. It's not bad, but it's not that good either. The additional cities may keep you busy for a bit more, but all in all, this is a game for the patient.

This collection includes the original cities in motion and several dlc packs including some additional vehicles which are essential because they increase your choice of vehicles. Tokyo DLC is also included in this pack.

As far as I see it, it's a wonderful game. For somebody who loves the Simcity-franchise, it's a great substitute. It brings an interesting depth to infrastructure creation, while the city builder is more than enjoyable enough to make me spend hours upon hours with it.

The expansions themselves are lovely things, even if I miss my favorite expansion (Paris) in this one. However if you want, like me, a complete gaming experience then this is a great way to get it. The only downside is the DLCs where the vehicles are available instantly, rather than during "their periods". But that is sort of irrelevant.

The collection hardly seems worth it--Cities in Motion was a relatively mediocre game and the expansions add very little new to the game. The game suffers from repetitive and slow-ish gameplay. Additionally, for a game which has tried to let you be able to tinker with everything, there are several things which are very very hard to work around (I can first think of road traffic and also the overall usefulness of trains given the scales of the map). The game was fun for a few hours but I really only kept playing it after that to complete missions and see if it would get better, and I don't think that it did

Definitely a good game, albeit flawed with the various issues it has in regards to stability.

The price is very reasonable considering how it includes all DLC and expansions, with the exception of US cities and later.

I picked this up out of curiosity more than anything and found it to be a really enjoyable experience. The amount of depth that it provides was surprising. My initial assumption that just building transportation systems within pre-existing cities would be simple and straightforward was quickly proven as incorrect. Determining which mode of transportation, which vehicle, how many stops, where to place those stops, etc was quite a challenge. The game was peaceful and relaxing while keeping me on edge at the same time. If you enjoy building and maintaining infrastructure aspects from city sims, check this game out.

The collection pack is a must get if you're planning on buying the game. It provides the original game with all sorts of expansions that will make your life easier :)

First, I have to say that this game isn't for everyone. You gotta have a soft spot for micromanaging and detailed planning to be able to fully enjoy this transport simulation game. If you do, then you'll have a very rewarding experience. In this game, you own a transportation company and have to make lines (for buses, trams, subways), assign vehicles to those lines and set salaries for your workers, always trying to provide quality services without going bankrupt. At first, the amount of variables will drive you mad, having to restart the game several times until you pick up the pace. When you do, you'll have a great time playing it.

Overall Great Gameplay

By Poptarts posted 2nd August 2011

I've really enjoyed playing the Cities in Motion series. Initially when I first installed the game, I felt the UI was a bit cumbersome (especially on high resolutions where the UI is smaller because there's no scaling). Luckily, the gameplay itself makes up for any issues I had with the game once I got acclimated to it. The mechanics provide challenging scenarios where players must both meet the demands of the public while also maintaining a balanced budget. If the idea of designing city-wide transportation systems appeals to you, then this game is made just for you.

PROS:

Very in-depth strategy, good replay value, intuitive design of route selection and implementation, stable code

CONS:

Limited selection of vehicles, no multi-player, very few maps to play on (without downloading user-content)
