Back to the Future The Game review

A real blast from the past, Back to the Future The Game, is an adventure game where the puzzles are simple and there are not many of them, which is a flaw, however the developers Telltale maintain a solid pace and good storyline that pushes you forward usually leaving a cliff hanger ending at the end of each episode, it's the next best thing to a forth BTTF movie, so if you are a fan of the movies this game is highly recommended.

The main voices of Marty (A.J. Locascio) and Doc (the original Christopher Lloyd) are excellent and even Micheal J. Fox despite his illness makes a really welcome cameo appearance at the end. A.J. Locascio deserves special praise as he is a brilliant M.J. Fox sound-a-like, Unfortunately no Tom Wilson as Biff :-(

When the credits rolled & that Huey Lewis & the News track played I just wanted moarrrr, and would definitely pick up a sequel.

One last thing, I have a decent PC but from ep. 3 onwards I had to play without Anti-Aliasing turned on because the graphics got messed up on certain scenes.

A very enjoyable set of adventures from Telltale Games. The five episodes take the player through several times and "timelines", allowing Marty and the Doc to both mess up and repair history several times before finally ending up with a present time that vaguely reflects what they started with.

As with most TellTale games, the player is forgiven for mistakes - there is no death here, and you cannot find yourself in a dead end that requires loading a save game. The cast performs well, with Christopher Lloyd reprising his part as Doc and a cameo from Michael J Fox in the final episode.

Another excellent title from Telltale!

Help Marty and Doc restore the time-line and correct mistakes. The puzzles are pretty straightforward and entertaining with excellent voice casting and likenesses.

To play the game on maximum settings requires a good video card.

Back to the Future The Game is an excellent companion to the movies, even if it's one of the easiest adventure games ever made. If you're playing for the story, it's great fun, but don't come in expecting a brain bending puzzle experience, because you won't find it in this game.

First episode of Telltale Game’s Back To The Future starts from the point where Doc has been announced dead, as he hasn't been seen for a year after the last movie. Only Marty knows, that Doc is alive, but he can't do a thing about it, as people think he's just hopeful for Docs return. And then the time machine arrives, only with Einstein the dog in it. Marty needs to find out where Doc is and whats going on.

Telltale has managed to make a game, that is faithful to the movies. Every place is filled with movie references and they've even managed to get back Docs original actor, Christopher Lloyd to provide a voice for the character. Marty is nicely voiced by an uncanny Michael J. Fox imitator, who really brings the animated character alive.

As an adventure game BttF is a lot easier, and clearly aimed to more casual gamers, than any previous Telltale game, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. The game is very cinematic, the voice acting is superb and the puzzles are very pleasing.`

For a seasoned adventurers the first episode is about 3-4 hours of game play and the rest of the episodes aren't that much challenging either. The best approach you can take to the games is to play them as interactive movies, as that's really what the game is.

There are some small bugs in the games, so I do recommend saving, even though there's no dead ends as I did stumble upon one bug, that made me replay some of the episode 4, as I hadn't saved my game before that particular scene.

Graphic - It does what set out to do and face expression hit the nail when it demands for it.

Clicking stuff did stand out but not to the extreme level of flashing up on screen.

Sound - Clean sound effects and make use of licence music from movies without overuse it.

Control - Moving around could feel clunky at times but did not hurt the game as it doesn't rely on move correct way to able play the game.

Challenge - Easy compared to older point and click games and I would recommend it to new people to the genera or just want some Back to the future adventure to follow.

Replay value - Close to none except if you want to look for references in it.

Value for Money - Game last about +15 hours for all 5 episodes. For 1-2 Euro per hour I would say its worth it, sure its not greatest value for the money but its not ripping you off.

I would say if are fan to the movies or just want to test out a easy point and click how it works, then this is a game for you.

But if they ever make sequel they better make point click harder and option of replay value and try avoid split up the game, sure the cliff hangers was fun (reference from the movies) but felt more like split game then 5 different games.

If you like point and click adventures (P&CA) and if you like the Back to the future movies then you'll probably love this game!

Positive things about the game

+ Good voice acting

+ Interesting story

+ Doesn't suffer from the "use everything on everything" syndrom that most P&CA suffer from. The puzzles are fairly logical and can only access a limited area at a time.

+ Captures the feeling from the movies very well

Negative things about the game

- The graphics is kinda poor IMO, but good enough for a P&CA.

- Minor graphical/sound glitches

- The puzzles might be too easy for P&CA veterans

- The episodes felt a bit short

If you are like me and used to like point-and-click adventure games in the early 90's, this is the game for you.

It's alot like those, except with much better graphics, and voice acting.

The story is decent, though it's only the first installment. You follow Marty McFly as he travels to 1931, in the middle of the prohibition in Hill Valley, and you have to pull Doc out of trouble.

As for cost, 25$ would be a steep price to pay for one episode, for for 5 of them it's really a decent price. The first episode is roughly 2 hours of gaming.

The controls are much like other point and click adventures : you pick up items and solve puzzles. The puzzles are a bit on the easy side, especially with the "hint" system in the game, but that's gaming in today's world.

All in all, I would recommend it to fans of point&click adventure games, and fans of "Back from the future."
