X-Com Interceptor: It's... Alright

By HerrOrcman posted 14th April

Being a spinoff from the excellent X-Com strategy game trilogy, Interceptor makes a few missteps. For one, it's a space-combat game more than anything else, and the base elements suffer as a result. For another, it's certainly no Wing Commander. Flying around in space feels "off" and makes the combat a bit dull. It's not a terrible game, though, and you could certainly do worse in this particular genre than Interceptor. Just don't go into it expecting the X-Com experience from the trilogy, and you might get some enjoyment out of it.

First, this game does not like the system I tried to play it on (it is a very old game), but the parts I could play made it a great deal of fun! It is X-Com, but instead of TBS combat, it is a full on space flight game! A great deal of fun! If you have an old system or run a virtual machine, this game is a must!

X-Com Interceptor - Who is there right minds thought it would be good to take a game series and total change it? X-Com Interceptor take the idea of interceptors in x-com and tries to turn it into a game. While by itself it would be an okay space shooter it isn't x-com. There isn't on foot combat and there isn't enough sim. Sure, you can research and upgrade the ship but still. If I want to play a space shooter I play wing commander, if I want to play a squad base strategy game, I play x-com. Some worlds (and lines) shouldn't be crosses. Also, the game is bugged on any OS higher than Win2k (alien probe, bases and jammer can't be targeted, requiring a patch from a shady site or to cheat. I suggest the built in ingame cheat over the shady patch.) All and all, it could have been good but this marks the death of x-com. Sad but true. Only get this if you got it in a pack.

AAAAAAWFUL game, everything is extremely 'plain' when compaired wih the other X-Com titles. Run away from this one, it is a disapointment.

another game trying to cash in on the x-com game, gets pretty easy later on, and worth a play is you have an interest in old school spaceflight games

If you liked the tech tree in X-Com, but found the battles slow and frustrating, then Interceptor is a nice change of pace. The squad missions are gone, it's now a pure spaceflight game. A very easy spaceflight game, once you've upgraded your tech a little.

Suffers badly from not having an autosave feature, and from a confusing interface.

Unfortunatly for the X-Com franchise Enforcer and Interceptor were a big step backwards. both seem to be more of a cashing in on the X-com name as opposed to making a good game. Why they moved away from a basically perfect squad based system i will never know. as a space shooter, this isnt really much chop either. would recommend people look elswhere for a 4x shooter. the only reason i played this was i got it in an x-com bundle.
