Wars and Warriors - Joan of Arc review

This game is almost like a dynasty warriors type game except within the time frame of Joan of Arc. Its fun if you like those kinda games, which I do. One of the worst things is you dont get to chose your main character.

The first 4 levels of the game are rather limited, you control 1-4 heroes in them and there is no strategy involved for the units. Units are assigned to heroes to follow and assist (or standing around while the hero does the killing) them. The camera is in a 3rd person view that follows the selected hero for these levels, changing to first person only when you are using a bow or crossbow. Starting in the 5th level you can hire new units to replace any the heroes lose there, though it does not seem mandatory. The heroes get powerful quickly and can cut their way through hordes of enemies, or even mow down a charging army with a bow. There is also a new strategic view starting in the 5th level, using this you can send a hero and the units it leads to specific spots on the map rather than walking using the WASD keys.

The graphics are decent for an older title, as are the sounds. The gameplay is simple yet rather addicting, i keep wanting to charge in solo with Joan to take out a castle, or shooting enemies with Jean. The heroes have more or less the same skills, though some are better at specific skills that others. The stats for each hero varies, and you can build them as you wish, though i tended to just go with what they were already good at. There are horses in several maps that a hero can mount to trample enemies, charging through their ranks while swinging a melee weapon. Unfortunately the horses are rather hard to control, as is the camera while on a horse.

Overall not a bad game, shorter than i wished, but at 10$ it was still a good deal. If there is ever an expansion or sequel i'd buy it in a heartbeat.

I enjoy this game quite a lot. It's Dynasty Warriors for those of us who never had a console! The graphics are serviceable, the sound fits the setting, the gameplay is fast and frantic, and the story is... well... you're not playing it for the story. If you can stomach a few pathfinding bugs and invisible walls, you're in for a fun, albeit somewhat short, little romp.

The amount of features in this game makes this a very unique title. Considering that there are RPG/strategy/FPS elements to it.

But don't let that fool you, I enjoyed the concept of the game and forced myself to like it.

But ultimately, it's boring and dull most of the time.

The graphics get bland, the fighting drags on and the story is not good either.

Unless you really want something slightly similar to Dynasty Warriors and time-consuming for the sake of it.

Then this game can entertain...for a short while.

The combat system is great, and the game overall is very cool. Nice lvling system also. I liked the way to feed your army and taking over towns and all that, the maps are also very good.

I just found it boring and hard to complete a few missions, mostly on using machines like catapults, really hard to manage, since the controls are not good on doing so. And the game is a little bit short. But besides that, its just perfect.

That is my review of this great game.

Overall the game is decent as long as you can look past the horrid pathfinding. The game conists of a few main Heroes who level and you can select their stats and upgrade combos. The RTS portion of the game can be completley ignored, it lacks in everything from pathing to being able to really pan your map, and the angels are annoying. If you just focus on the rpg/action portion of the gameplay its worth the price.

This Joan of Arc-themed game is part Action, part RPG, part RTS(not available on early missions). / There's only 8 missions but each missions have quite a length to play. / Control is alright for keyboard + mouse. / Action part is very similar to Dynasty Warrior series with heroes gaining experience for stats and combos. fun at first, later it gets repetitive. / RTS part is poorly-made, characters(especially siege weapons) often get stuck on terrains and it's hard to navigate heroes in RTS mode when they're inside fortresses. / Difficulty is very easy, since there are hundreds of healing items dropped(enough to live without buying those from shops), and a bug that can train heroes insanely fast. / Overall, it's almost worth $9.99 at the time I bought it here.
