GAME SUMMARY

Worldshift

Rating: 3.4 (96 votes cast)

In the 21st century, shortly after the colonization of our Solar System had begun, a huge dark object appeared beyond the orbit of Pluto. The object, called ‘Shard Zero’ by the scientists, possessed some kind of a deadly aura, spreading mysterious ‘plague’ of cosmic scale around itself, twisting and disrupting the very nature of space and life. There was no time for reaction, and all attempts to study the anomaly remained futile. When we finally realized the object is moving on a collision course with our planet, it was too late. Shard Zero hit Earth and that was the end of our civilization.

WorldShift is set thousands of years later, when our civilization is no more than a fading myth. The remains of Shard Zero still are spreading its Plague, twisting and re-shaping Earth and its nature, sometimes in the course of centuries and sometimes in a matter of hours. Humans developed a new culture and now live in 5 mega-cities, struggling every day for the precious resources they need to survive. The rest of Earth is populated by the Tribes, successors of early humans, that were affected by the Plague.

WorldShift is a next-gen cyber-fantasy RTS game designed to be quick and very easy to learn and play. It offers hectic, fierce encounters all around the Earth and a fascinating story uncovering ancient secrets about the true nature of the Shard and the Plague. But also, WorldShift introduces many features new to the genre, like modifiable factions, unqiue cooperative multiplayer gameplay, and more.

In WorldShift, there are no technology trees featuring hundreds of upgrades; instead, WorldShift allows the players to discover and acquire a vast number of items and powerful relics that they can use to freely change their gameplay and preferred tactics and to surprise their foes. The players will gather items as they fight their opponents and as rewards for completing missions. But to discover the most powerful relics, they must form teams with their most trusted friends and embark on deadly missions where it is difficult to survive and where the real challenges await.

  • Fast and furious multiplayer
  • Thousands of items and powerful relics to collect
  • Use items and relics to build your own tactics
  • The best cooperative, player-vs-environment gameplay ever made in RTS game
  • Random maps for infinite exploration
  • Unique blend of post apocalyptic setting, hi-tech and primitive
  • Epic, dangerous missions with great rewards
  • 3 playable races

Nice game

By Azradun posted 30th October 2011

A quite nice and polished game. Its good points are a nice climate to it, presented in cinematics and fluff text, pretty and colorful visuals and art. But I think something is missing, yet I cannot quite tell exactly what. Maybe it's that fights feel a little... bland? When playing I felt the gameplay was a 'standard rts feeling'. I would say this game is simply good. Not a unique, groundbreaking experience, but good.

A generic RTS with rudimentary gameplay. Playing the mission can be quite confusing, as it doesn't reveal much back story. Mission can be easy but if your hero dies, mission fail and you'll have to start from checkpoint because you can't save game. After complete s mission, you can choose upgrade for the factions. The graphic is beautiful and nice multiplayer. A basic RTS, easy to pickup even without tutorial.

Overall the game is not bad. Graphics are nice. But it is kind of slow paced for the RTS. And there's no base building involved - it's just you get those units and fight. I got bored pretty fast, and there are sound issues as well - very quiet sounds of units.

I think there's multiplayer as well but haven't tried that.

A warning that to play this game that you MUST be connected to their server should have been listed. No single player offline option. So for those times you want to take a game with you away from home, guess again.

I think worldshift is only an ok game at the best I would not pay more then 2 dollars for it thou, the Biggest problem I have with it is the lack of players in the multiplayer missions, so you would only be buying this game like I did for the single player side

An excellent game if you can get a party together- the only issue I have with this game is the lack of players. When I was playing in the beta, the game play was excellent and the progression was fun and interesting. The problem with buying the game today is mainly the empty servers- the game is still fun and good looking to date. The limitations come in when you can't progress because you have no other players to work with for the co-op missions. The single player component is decent, but barely satiates once you've played the excellent multiplayer. This is a bargain buy, especially if you have some friends to play with. However, I'd advise either talking to people who have the game or trying to find a group of friends before buying the game, as many missions require three or more players to be viably completed.

Worldshift is a very interesting game with lots of stuff. It's built as a MMORTS, and it shows in some aspects, but it's a very good game.

I'll admit to being a bit of a purist for old-school RTS games such as Age of Empires and Empire Earth, so I'm not really a fan of the lighter RTS style that is used in Worldshift, it just feels too simple to me to have one large base unit. However, it's got RPG elements that win me back, and the game is light and easy to get into.

Multiplayer is a slight problem. While servers are up, you really need to know someone, because otherwise you won't necessarily find a match, and if you do you my be with people who don't know the same languages as you.

When in doubt, though, it's a great game for its price, even if you just slog through the campaign alone.

Worldshift’s strongest point is definitely its multiplayer component. With fast paced matches, several races and units to choose from, and hundreds of upgrades and items to collect, you will have your hands full for several hours of gaming time. Unfortunately, you’ll rarely find matches online nowadays and your best solution is to play this game on a LAN network with friends.

The singleplayer mode in this game is passable at best (and this is expected from a multiplayer game), but it provides good training grounds to hone your skills.

This game looks very good, with highly detailed units and good looking and diverse environments that doesn’t heavily tax your system. The audio is good and usually enhances the game experience.

Finally, I think this game is a bargain at $10 provided you intend on playing it on a LAN network. Otherwise, good luck finding online matches.
