Warhammer 40k Dawn of War Soulstorm review

By davidjames posted 6th April

If you love rts and love Wh40k this is quite good. The depth of material gives you EIGHT playable, and different, fractions ( with expansions ) with campaigns. On the other hand WH40k obcession with heros and "painting" units is possibly excessive for some. There is much original for an rts,but its all put together well. The economic side of it is almost neglected by the way.

Soulstorm has a few problems but most don't effect single-player which is in my opinion the best area of the game except for a few lore problems and poor balancing. Worth a buy if you aren't to bothered about the lore.

Being the final expansion to a game, this is what you want for any multiplayer aspect (although its' age means it isn't the most active). There are even some pretty popular and well produced mods out there for it. Single Player campaign is a bit lacking compared to the other entries in the series though, allowing you access to more campaigns but they're not very in depth.

If you're looking for some old school RTS gameplay with a taste of Warhammer 40k, then Soulstorm is the game to get. Nine factions with loads of unique units means lots of replayability. Soulstorm still looks and plays great even today!

This game is before WH40k took the dive from straight RTS to squad tactical game, ala Dawn of War 2. While I like DOW2, I prefer Soulstorm for straight RTS fix while I'm taking a break from Starcraft 2 every now and then. By the way I love customizing my army with the army painter.

Soulstorm is a excellent game with a fair amount of replayability given the 9 distinct factions, but if you have already played Dark Crusade it will feel very similar in its layout and progression of the campaign. If you love the Dawn of War Series this is a excellent addition to the collection, but if you didn't care much for Dark Crusades campagin style you'll probaly dislike this one as well.

Warhammer 40k Soulstorm is a great game, and offers great replay value. With the Sisters of Battle, Dark Eldar, Space Marines, Eldar, Necrons, Tau, Chaos, The Imperial Guard, And Orks, the Replay value is great. So many unique units, the Graphics are wonderful, the sound is great.... I'd definatly give this a 5/5
