A quality RTS game takes alot of work and this game has not failed to impress. Plenty of action and strategy is involved in completing missions to keep things interesting.

A really good game that you should pick up if you like strategy. If you instead like the Baldurs gate series, Neverwinter Nights or Dragon Age you should give this game a chance! It plays a little like those games mentioned above.

This game is excellent, love the tactical options and the use of cover ect, can be a bit samey in sp campaign, but the nice choice of races in Last Stand and MP matches is great, begginers will find MP a little taxing at first, but should soon pick it up after a couple of matches. This is by Far the best foray into the 40,000 universe to date, i love the detail that has gone into the units, from eldar,to orcs it's all superb.

Well i love Warhammer series.

This one is fun and online playing is exciting. The loot collection is fun and addictive but campaign doesnt have many strategy elements. There are few multiplayer maps for my taste.

It's certainly not your typical RTS experience, putting you in control of up to four squads of Space Marines and sending you off to exterminate your Ork, Eldar, and Tyranid foes.

You won't be building a base or churning out units, but rather maneuvering your few commander-led squads around the map .

But is still think it is a great game especially for fans of dawn war series.

Nice Action-Oriented Strategy

By oneX-Xeno posted 20th February

I usually don't play strategy games, but this one I had to try since many of my friends were raving about it. It's a nice squad-based game, where you have a few unique characters with a set amount of skills, who are then followed by dime in a dozen marines. You can choose a maximum of 4 teams on a mission at a time, and since all have their strengths and weaknesses you can choose a team that fits your play style. Your main character is always alone though, but at the same time probably the most powerful unit you have.

You gain experience points and loot during missions which you can then use to improve your team. You can "sell" obsolete equipment for XP points after each mission. Performing exceptionally well during missions will grant you bonuses ranging from automated turrets to extra time, which an be used to do more missions during a single game day.

The only gripe I have is that there aren't enough hotkeys and they aren't configurable enough, but since I love micromanagement I guess that's a problem many won't even notice. Enjoyable game nonetheless :)

The campaign is very enjoyable and the choice of units is good enough to make you want to replay it a couple of times. It's lots of fun in coop but loses a little if you solo it.

The last stand mode is what kept me coming back to this game it's an arena action game where you try to survive waves of enemies in 3 player coop, using 1 hero and all his skills and abilities. Very addictive.

Multiplayer was a big bust for me. I miss the base building and large armies of the previous DoW games. This is clearly built for the skirmish lover and hardcore online player but not for old school RTS fans.

This game is epic. The story is engaging (if melodramatic) and gives you a sense of urgency about the mission. Gameplay is very strong with a great focus on tactics and has a good balance of special abilities that can be combined for devastating effects. The learning curve is short for first time players but the non-linear maps and ranging difficulties allow you to get into it very easily and play for a long time. Wish i got the expansion pack for online play since with the basic version, no one is on.

Unlike its more traditional predecessor, Dawn of War 2 abandons all concept of base building in favour of a significant increase of focus on your units. To the RTS vet, this translates as an all 'micro' experience with a cover system; imported from the similar Relic title "Company of Heroes"; allowing for complex flanking and pincer movements, as for those with less strategy experience, the increase of focus on small squads of units keeps you engaged in the action without having to worry about building up a base and managing an economy or looking after 50 or so units. Overall this creates a very focused visceral experience, further helped by the excellent character design and brutal action, which couldn't be any further from tradional RTS titles in the vein of, say, Starcraft.

The single player campaign is quite unusual for a stategy game and is in many ways akin to an RPG. Throughout the course of the campaign you will manage persistent squads of units which you can level up and upgrade through the use of skill points and random loot drops. This allows you to fine tune squads into many specialised roles, depending on your play style.

Dawn of War's campaign mode is one of the best realised single player portions of any RTS game I've played and is easily worth your money even if you have no interest in the multiplayer experience.

Overall, a must have if your in to non base building RTS titles; such as Company of Heroes and Ground Control; and for those with little experience in the genre; I would consider this a great starting point thanks to the simplicity of the controls, yet depth of the strategy.

Excellent game, bought it with the intention to just put a few hours here and there, basically whenever I got bored of MW3 and my other 360 games, but I started playing and just couldn't stop! The leveling system was interesting in the fact that it peaks at 20, but all the way up until level 15 or 16 you are basically getting a level each mission, but once you hit that 15-16 level mark it's like the experience is only worth 1/3 of what it was before and it takes much longer to level up. The way to rectify this is to run around the entire map and kill every enemy, and while it sounds like a good idea, right when you hit that level area the enemies are all of a sudden incredibly powerful and MUCH harder to kill. Destructible terrain makes for some fun movements in the Terminator armor or dreadnought, plowing through walls to surprise the enemy camped behind it.

Warhammer® 40,000™: Dawn of War® II recommendation

While Dawn of War 2 might not be the sequel a lot of diehard fans were waiting for, it turned out to be an interesting and highly entertaining addition to the RTS genre. The campaign follows the exploits of a few Blood Ravens space marines, and its RPG elements provide an unusual and rather fun way to improve your units. That said, it's no typical RTS in that you are stuck with the same few units throughout the campaign, but that's no big deal when it's as solid a campaign as it is. Also, with no base-building to speak of, the skirmishes (on or offline) focus entirely on the "tug of war" effect generated by grabbing requisition points and power nodes, creating a tense and fast-paced "action-RTS" style.

All in all, I'd say you should grab it if you're a fan of RTS's and want something different, or a fan of the original Dawn of War (or Warhammer 40k). Just don't go in expecting a rehash of the original but with better graphics.

Awesome game, rather than focusing on base building they have made it all about your units. Vast array of items to kit out your marines. Graphically this game is amazing, destructible terrain is always a bonus as well. Must have for Warhammer fans

When playing through the campaign mode the story line pulls you in and makes it so that you are always wanting to know what is going to happened next. This is helped by the fact that the game mechanics are solid so you never find your self becomes frustrated because of the controls. Also while the game plays differently from the original the persistent squads makes it so that you as the game progress you are able to evolve your squads in ways that better fit your play style. Which is really fun and adds an interesting dynamic to the game.

I have played the other Dawn of Wars before this, but this one just seems better. I like how they focus on unit control then on building control. I would Recomend this game to anyone who likes strategy games! Also the leveling of units is a very nice feature they added/improve :P

Tight, tactical action, set in an expansive universe. Rarely are you left with time to breath. The biggest problem is the need to repeat certain maps/zones again and again. Fortunately, it's just as fun to send a rocket team launching into battle after 8 hours as it was the first time.

Rarely in the history of RTS has the campaign mode been so well done ! I usually quit other games' campaign halfway but DOW2's campaign totally sucked me in until the very end - such is the power of addictive looting and unit levelling ! Currently waiting for a sale deal on Chaos Rising to see how the story will eventually turn out (and for more epic loot as well). And did I mention that the pace of the game easily matches that of FPS games - so frantic, so exciting, so much stuff blowing up, so much bloody melee, all easily within 5-10 mins of a level ?

I found this to be a very excellent game, if you have played any of the Dawn of War Series before, it will be a bit of a change from base building to squad management.

The ability to outfit your squads as you see fit is grand fun when you really start to get going will all of them, though I did find you needed some luck in drops or a squad might end up using woefully outdated equipment.

If you have played Dark Crusade or Soul Storm the Stragetic map will have somewhat of a familliar feel to it, though the maps will feel far less repettive, I highly reccomend taking a look at the manual though since the ingame tutorial tends to leave you a bit high and dry on some of the finer points.

My only real issue I had was in some of the boss fights that were crushingly difficult compared to others while I walked over with ease, but that could of been due to my own equipment loadout.

Overall if your a fan of squad based games or the Dawn of War Series this is a excellent game, and the Multiplayer is not too shabby either.
