Warhammer 40k Dawn of War Dark Crusade

Rating: 4.6 (33 votes cast)

Deep under the central desert of Kronus, a vast honeycomb of skull-lined tunnels and funereal chambers house the awakening
mass of the Necron plague. Eons ago, these were the boulevards and squares of a great necropolis built to house the bones of the races who had fallen to the Necron purge, and ultimately for the Necron themselves to retire to. Over the millions of years, sand and rock had covered it all until ill-fated excavations awoke the deathless again.
Play any of seven races, striving for control over Kronus. Take other races’ strongholds by winning challenging battles on various maps individually associated with the respective factions.

  • Take command of two new playable races: Tau and the Necrons as you unleash massive carnage across the frontlines of battle
  • Lead any one of seven races on an epic crusade through an all-new single player campaign
  • Customize your hero’s weapons, items, and abilities as he grows in power and influence
  • Dominate opponents online through 12 new multiplayer maps - with up to 8 players battling it out for supremacy
  • Innovative hybrid expansion gameplay allows you to play Dark Crusade alone or expand your gameplay experience by adding Dawn of War and Winter Assault.

Warhammer 40k Dawn of War Dark Crusade review

By neurotic_shadow posted 12th May

An eminently addictive Warhammer 40k title, Dark Crusade provides an excellent single player experience, where the player can take control of the Tau, Chaos Marines, Orks, Blood Ravens, Imperial Guard, Eldar and Necron forces - the goal: complete control of the planet Kronus.

The structure of the campaign is well executed, making each battle fought against an enemy very significant, and its outcome anything but a trivial event.

The multiplayer provides the standard RTS approach, where players are pitted against each other amongst a variety of victory conditions.

Simply one of the best RTS titles available.

If you must get DC, make sure that reason is to try the FoK mod. It makes the DC a different game. On its on though, DC is quite a solid expansion so I would give it 4/5. The battles are just amazing in this game and the only problem I have is with the AI(on Insane Difficulty) being too easy at times. I'll vote 5/5 due to the fact that DC with FoK is immensely enjoyable.

It is a very good expansion. The Tau Empire and Necrons have their own very unique method of playing. I would advice mastering other races before playing as the Necrons. It is good to have them as enemies, although they feel overly powerful. Get the latest patch that fixes this little problem.

Overall, it's very nice to have 2 more civs to play as and all the new maps.

The DOW experience is not complete without this expansion.
