Unreal II: The Awakening review

There's more of a story in this game than the first Unreal as well as some improved graphics, but it's not quite as an achievement as the original. Some of the levels feel kind of generic, but the weapon design is as good, if not better than in the original game. If you're expecting a game that's superior to the original Unreal in every way, then you might be in for a disappointment, but it really is a good game on its own.

Not a half bad attempt at expanding the original FPS element of the Unreal series, attempting to stray from its recent Tournament xxxx variations. It however fails to bring what the original had with it. Lackluster visuals (Unreal in some cases even seems superiour) Clumsy controls and strange changes made to the lore (When did the Skaarj start taking steroids?) Leave old fans confused. Missions are fun if you can get past the combat, and the story isnt that horrid.

Overall worth a romp if its on sale.

Unreal II: The Awakening review

So this time you have a crew on your back that bother you with somewhat interesting but predictable stories. The variety of locations also keeps you coming back for more even if just out of curiosity what´s on next.

But on the same time it´s just your standard bulk of location you´d expect to find in a SciFi Shooter. Well, still better this way than the same type of corridors for the whole game, like in Alpha Prime. And the Particle effects for some weapons are very nice indeed.

The AI is as odd as in the original - the sidestep and dodge behavior, you know. So depending on your point of view this game is either old school or eloquently mediocre, considering the evolution of the genre with games like Half-Life 2 and Halo. But it is a fun way to kill some spare time.
