GAME SUMMARY

Trine (Mac)

Rating: 4.4 (226 votes cast)

Trine is a fantasy action game where the player can create and use physics-based objects to beat hazardous puzzles and threatening enemies. Set in a world of great castles and strange machinery, three heroes are bound to a mysterious device called the Trine in a quest to save the kingdom from evil…

The gameplay is based on fully interactive physics - each character's different abilities help the player battle an army of undead and defeat hazardous contraptions. The player can at any time freely choose whoever is best suited for the upcoming challenge or puzzle: The Wizard is able to summon objects to help solve puzzles and create new ways to overcome obstacles, the Thief uses her agility and dead-on accuracy to swiftly surprise the monsters, and the Knight unleashes mayhem and physical destruction wherever he goes.

  • Mix Prince of Persia with Flashback, add true innovation and a great graphics engine… a new legend is born!
  • 3 completely different characters to control at any given time:
  • Wizard is able to cast physically simulated objects and levitate them in the totally interactive game world
  • Knight is a mayhem-bringer like no other, able to destroy objects and smash skeletons to pieces with his weapons, including the mighty Storm Hammer!
  • Thief can hit enemies from a distance with her accurate arrows but she also has a grappling hook to easily swing from one platform to another
  • Solve challenges and puzzles in many different ways – combine the characters' abilities and let your mind come up with creative solutions never seen before
  • Characters gain experience points that can be used to upgrade their abilities
  • Fully interactive game world with life-like physics, including "ragdoll" enemies and more physics objects than you can count!
  • Co-op mode for up to 3 players on the same system
  • Based on the proprietary "Frozenbyte GDE" game engine
  • Superb graphics with next-gen visuals using impressive technical effects such as bloom, reflections and realistic shadows, achieved by using state-of-the-art vertex and pixel shaders
  • 15 carefully designed and challenging levels with a distinctly unique atmosphere and graphics, including the Astral Academy, Crystal Caverns, Dragon Graveyard, Forsaken Dungeons, Fangle Forest and the Ruins of the Perished.
  • Many different items to collect - each affecting the characters' abilities
  • Well-hidden secret chests in every level
  • 3 difficulty levels to choose from
  • Amazing 19-track soundtrack composed by acclaimed Ari Pulkkinen

Trine (Mac) review

Trine is a magical game. Not only does it have magic in it, but it feels like it's made of magic.

The moment you start playing it, the voice of the narrator, the sounds of the forests and the bright colors the dungeons enchant you like when you were a little kid and got your first kiss. :) Ok, a kiss is a kiss and can't be compared to a game, but it's close to it.

It's hard to know what to like the most in Trine. It could be the well designed levels, or the animations of the characters, or it could be the physics engine and how the characters are unique in each way. It could also be the amount of fun that you can have with your family or it could be the relaxing music that makes you forget the outside world and simply relax.

There's a whole lot of things to do in Trine and the replay value can be huge, especially if you're playing the game with someone else. Trine 2 is on the rise, so why don't you see what the fuzz is all about?

Nice little games, lots of challenges, many hours of pure entertainment, with no strings attached. You will not become smarter after playing a game like this, but sometimes you just want to pass the time, and this is a great game for that. The graphic is outstanding, and the idea that you have to use three different characters, each with his/her own strength, is a plus. Get it, you will not be sorry.

I played the PC version and I gave a try to the mac one...

Pretty much the same

The gameplay is fun and remind me of some old school plateforming game with good graphics and with the physX engine it's quite amusing

If the price drops under 15 or 10 euros then it's definitely worth getting !

My only "complain" is that some times the level are too long but checkpoints help a lot

The game is absolutely beautiful. There are a few gameplay problems; the combat is pointless and the rope physics make no sense, but the puzzles are absolutely brilliant with the mage.

This game is super fun! It's a 3D side scroller with beautiful graphics. Battle is simple, it's more about logic/logistics/small puzzles. The music is great, and it's a blast to play with friends (just have them bring their keyboards and mice!) Again, super simple but super fun, glad I bought it.

Highly addictive

Highly addictive puzzle/platform game where you control 3 completely different characters and use each of their special talents and spells to defeat a horde of undead and to reach the end of the level. There is loads of extra collectables along the way which prove to keep you on your toes throughout. The graphics are also splendid and mystical. I love this game! I got it in the deal for £2 but I would have certainly paid full price.
