Anyone who enjoys Action RPG's needs to get this game. Take the original Diablo and upgrade the graphics, add in some features that streamline the gameplay and you have Torchlight. Even though I enjoyed Diablo II and Titan Quest, I kept coming back to Diablo for some real fun. Because of this game I think I can finally shelve Diablo... the gameplay feels the closest to it with some more added flavor. Every class gets a pet (that you can turn into different monsters if you play the fishing mini-game), you can send that pet back to town in the dungeon so town portal scrolls are close to obsolete. Very polished and tons of fun.

This game is descent RPG hack and slash, it has very simple interface, and quite good plot. Graphics are nice if you like cartoon style games. Gig advantage of this game is a pet which is our companion and we can give some staff we find to him so he can carry it for us or we can send him too sell some things in shop, so we do not have to waste time on going back to town only because we do not have enough room for new staff. Levels and enemies are very diverse so it is not so boring.
Biggest disadvantage of this game is lack of multiplayer mode, it would make this game more fan to play for much longer time. But still I think it is descent game and worth trying. If you liked Diablo I and II this game is for you :)

If you love loot this is the game for you. You get heaps of it and you can make new and cool stuff from it. The character development is fast and fun. Well worth a look for and hack and slash person.

If you're familiar with Diablo 2 you'll find little new from Torchlight. The game mechanics (i.e. inventory, leveling system, skills etc.)and elements are almost identical, not even the music make exception. The story and graphics being the major differences, it's no wonder that some of the Diablo 2 cast was part in making Torchlight.
Personally I found the game very 'cartoonish', lots of colors and effects. Also the loading screens took too long to load when changing location. Other than that the game's fair entertainment.

This game is better than FATE and Diablo 1 & 2 combined. It looks as good as Diablo 3. Definately worth up to £20.

A good, quick, hack'n'slash ARPG in the tradition of Diablo. Three classes, each with three skill trees, differently playable. Legacy/inheritance system. Randomized Dungeons. If you liked Diablo and other games of the kind, this could give you quite a few hours of enjoyment. And if you, like me, played and liked Diablo 1, the music alone will take you waaaay back. It also has good, though not overwhelming visuals... it's easy on the eyes, and features some very coherent art. I think I have seen a demo out there, so I'd really suggest you simply try it out if you're not sure.

This game follows in the footsteps of Diablo. I love the hack and slash element of this game and the random drops make the re playability value go way up. There are three different character classes, all of which are completely different. I bought this game on a $5 sale awhile back, but I would buy it for $20 any day. A great game!

I won't lie to you, I'm new to the whole action RPG gaming malarkey... and Torchlight has hooked me thoroughly into the genre!
Anyone who has played Diablo-esque games will feel right at home in this indie adventure, with the three main character classes representing old favourites:
--> The Vanquisher is the ranged combat specialist/rogue-like character focusing on bows, guns and traps.
--> The Destroyer is your archetype tank class, able to absorb damage and dish it out as good as he gets.
--> The Alchemist is the magic caster, able to summon minions and blast enemies with magic.
The story focuses around the mining town of Torchlight, with the player heading further down into the ground beneath Torchlight in pursuit of fame and loot. The player can take up challenges from the townsfolk from the usual "kill this enemy", to "find this loot", in exchange for gold and items that will make your dungeon crawling experience a little easier.
The graphics in Torchlight can be compared to World of Warcraft (cartoony), but not in a bad way. It totally suits the atmosphere, and adds to the atmosphere of the game. You can't help but care for your character and his/her pet!
As mentioned, Torchlight was developed by a small indie studio, and the charm that they've managed to instil shines through when compared to games made by larger studio/publishers. Also, the developers support has been second to none, with patches adding new content and features, and bug fixes coming quickly.
In summary:
The graphics are charming, and the sound is brilliantly atmospheric.
Torchlight is a beauty of a game, and will sap away hours of your time.

The campaign is a bit short, but the replay value, the diversity of item drops, and the randomly generated dungeons give it a high replay value.

It's even better than Diablo 2.
Lots of stuff, lots of dungeons, lots of enemies.
Much more better than anything from H&S genre. If Diablo 2 is 9+/10, this one is 10/10.
One of the greatest ideas in this game is that little pet running around and selling your stuff in the shop at the city.
Player can focus himself on slashing hordes of enemies instead of going back to the city every few moments.
Many KUDOS to Runic Games.

So far i had a lot of fun with this game, the bonbon-cartoon graphics at first scared me a bit and the small download too, but it prooved to be a very solid game. Addictive and fun to play. If you like hack&slash games in diablo style this is definately one for you. The only downside i came across so far is that the dungeons look quite the same sadly but you will still have a lot of fun with this game.

Certainly priceworthy, and even for me that isn't really a fan of hack n slash, I had good fun with it for the time I played it.
Nice graphics, easy controls, easy-to-read interface, and solid gameplay. It's a bit repetetive, but that's usually what these games are all about. There's tons and tons of loot, so if that's your type of game, Torchlight is sure to satisfy.

An enjoyable dungeon romp, marred only by being perhaps too easy even on harder settings. It does have the Diablo and Titan Quest elements others have mentioned, but a more accurate comparison would be Fate, right down to the pet companion and fishing spots. The creators (from fate and Diablo) have taken all the most user friendly features from their other games in making this one.

If you want a game that will give you Diablo flashbacks in terms of pure hack and slash game play, then Torchlight is the game for you! Great fun, funny art design, and a very interesting setting allow for a level of free-spirited fun I haven't experienced in a while, and hopefully you'll join me in my opinion. Try Torchlight if you want a hack and slash fix before Diablo III!

Torchlight is simply a big piece of fun. With the destroyer class and the hardcore mode, you'll get back the thrills you had long time ago with the Diablo's barbarian. The skill tree is quite well balanced and will give pleasure to anyone who likes to hack... and slash !

Despite being a direct copy of the aging Diablo 2 this title (from former blizzard staff) succeeds in feeling fresh, fun, and addictive. The gameplay is simple and the story is almost nix, but the grind is soothing and the looting is exilerating. Some clever minor tweaks to the classic game mechanic and a cartoony look helps the game stand on it's own feet so you wont be bored if you have been revisiting the dungeons of Diablo recently. Pro: Fun, stylish, excellent value. Con: Too much like Diablo and not enough like Titan Quest. Conclusion: There now is a new device to pass the time untill Diablo 3 arrives, and it's name is Torchlight.

Be careful, because this game is really addicting. You'll immediately feel the urge to go forward, getting new items and gain new levels. Like others said, it's an Action RPG, by the same makers of Diablo 1 and 2. And it shows. The polish level is great and they communicate a lot with the community. They'll release the game editing tools shortly, so hopefully the community will pick the editor up and give this game some long legs. Not only a bargain, but also the sleeper hit of this holiday season.

The most addictive game I played in a long time. A beautiful RPG, which keeps you coming back for more, delving deeper into the dungeon and collecting bigger and better equipment. With a choice of three different characters, and many different ways of configuring those characters, there is plenty of replay value. The gameplay is relatively easy and would suit a more inexperienced gamer. If you have played this style of game before, I would recommend starting of one of the higher difficulty levels, where you will find more of a challenge. Although already a very solid game and free of major bugs, the developer appears very keen to provide ongoing support. The lack of multiplayer may be a miss for some , but the single player experience is compelling. In summary, this is a must buy, but make sure you got nothing pressing coming up in real life, as you be spending a lot of time with Torchlight

Anyone who enjoys Diablo/Diablo II will definitely want to try this title.
The price is hard to beat, and the gameplay is solid and addictive in the initial release.
I had an initial issue with long load times between levels, but found a quick fix on their forums that has helped considerably (reduced my load times by 50% or more), and the recent update should actually improve it even more.
At first, I was a bit taken aback by what seemed to be cartoonish graphics, but very quickly decided that this really wasn't a problem, just a bit different.
I have to express my thanks to the developers of this title, who contine to have a very open and active dialog with their customers, and are actively working to track down any issues which are raised. The quick release of the new build, bears this out.

For anyone who likes Hack & Slash games in the style of Diablo / DungeonSiege / Sacred / TitanQuest this is simply a MUST buy!
Torchlight is created by the people who originally created Diablo and Diablo II (ex Blizzard-North) and Fate (Travis Baldree), and they know exactly how to make a truly addictive action RPG game!
The production design is top-notch with a very attractive and polished look. The music is beautifully atmospheric and composed by the same composer who created the music for Diablo and Diablo II. The gameplay is very similar to the original Diablo game, with a lot of great elements of Fate mixed in.
Anyone who loves a beautiful dungeon crawler game that satisfies your greed for loot and makes you forget about the time because you can't stop playing should look no further and just buy this superb game!

This is a VERY solid game in the same action RPG genre as Diablo or Titan Quest. You pick from 3 classes all with interesting skill trees and subclasses, and the loot starts flowing.
I love the art direction of this game, everything is colorful and vibrant even though you are constantly sinking deeper into the mines of Torchlight. Animation is very smooth and the combat feels really well done.
All in all the only negative thing I can think to say about this game is the lack of multi-player support, but for the asking price of $19.95 it's hard to nitpick such a good deal.
