GAME SUMMARY

Star Wolves 2

Rating: 3.7 (340 votes cast)

Six years have passed after the events of 2226 A.D. The balance in the galaxy has been restored as transgalactic corporations have been deported to the outskirts of the galaxy and deprived of their power.

The Empire, just as before, continues to fight against the Aliens. As a rule armadas of battleships aren't used in such conflicts. Small maneuverable squadrons that can attack and retreat quickly are better suited for this type of war. This means that the famous Star Wolves team is back in action!

Star Wolves is a 3D space RPG with deep strategy and tactical elements. The game thrusts players into a world of freelance space hunters during a time of war for the all-powerful Empire. Human space pirates, rogue AI computers that rebelled against humanity and Aliens roam space in search of easy prey and planets to conquer.

Except for the voice acting this game provided a fun and enjoyable experience with an interesting plot and great combat.

The downside being that, while constantly hinting at a homeworld style game - controlling a capital ship and its fleet - it somehow doesn't quite make it - but the potential is amazing.

Well worth a look.

Worse than the original Star Wolves, unfortunately. The game is short (multiple short story branches), buggy (especially under Win7), and the free-roaming star map barely has anything worth exploring or doing in addition to the main missions, which are also mostly quite boring. The game also starts with mid-power ships, jumping quickly to powerful ones, and there's never any point in using the low-level ships for anything, even as backups.

Overall, most of the new stuff just isn't useful, interesting or worthwhile. Here's hoping the third game does better again...

Following on from Star Wolves was always going to be a challenging prospect. While i do like this game i feel that they have changed the basic gameplay a little in the wrong way. I really liked the non-open game in star wolves one and felt a little let down. Still it is worth the money as i like the rest of the aspects of this game a lot.

Star Wolves 2, like Star Wolves 1, is essentially a squad based tactical combat game that puts you in charge of each ship in the Star Wolves fighter squadron. The game feels like a merger between Homeworld 2 and Nexus: The Jupiter Incident, both very good games in this reviewer's opinion. Combat is fast, engaging, and intense. The graphics, although a little dated, are still very beautiful - especially in combat.

The only downside to this game is the unnecessary amounts of travel time between destinations. Most of the time spent playing this game will be waiting for your ships to get where they are going... which can get somewhat boring, even at the maximum 4x speed.

I ran Star Wolves 2 on Windows Vista 64 and did not experience any crashes or instability.

Also, the voice acting sucks.

I really enjoyed playing Star Wolves 1, that is why I tried Star Wolves 2 and I enjoyed playing it aswell.

My only problem with SW2 is the Voice Acting, it sounds really bad, but it is clear.

I liked having to dock to buy/sell and get missions/jobs. Aswell as the new Fighters and Mothership.

It would be better with a bit more character diversity, being able to get the same characters from SW1 is great, but having a full extra wing or two to choose from would've benn good.

I like the way you can freely move between the sectors of the game unlike the 1st game star wolves where each sector you visited was for a mission. the storyline is good for a sequel but i am a bit disapointed by the longevity of the game.

Star Wolves 2 is a lot like the first game. Graphics are about the same quality with little improvements and the music is superb, giving you the feel you need in order to immerse yourself in to the game.

Voice acting is the area you hope there would be more to it. The actors speak in monotonous voices and keep these odd pauses in between sentences. The voice acting doesn't ruin the game by all means, but it could have been better.

The game itself is like the first one,as already said, with improvements.

You can now hire mercenary groups to help you fight the enemies, but they require salary whenever you enter a new system, which means it's not wise to keep them for too long, rather just to help you rid of unwanted company.

you can also take jobs in order to earn more money, jobs vary from escort to transportation of goods.

Star Wolves 2 has all the good aspects of the first game, like blackmarket, skill point distribution, intense fights and the ability to choose your side.

Overall I like Star Wolves 2 a lot,the first game was one of my favourite games and the second one doesn't fail in comparison.

The little improvements though makes it slightly better one.

Highly recommended. 5/5

Star Wolves 2 follows in the footsteps of the predecessor Star Wolves 1. The story continues, six years after the original game ended. Aliens are still waging war with the Empire, and the corporations are out to get any advantage they can by wheeling, dealing and backstabbing as appropriate.

You've been given greater freedom of movement in this sequel, and you are also able to take on smaller jobs in between the storyline missions to earn badly needed money. The graphics have been improved since the first foray also.

What pulls the rating for this game down is (at least in my experience) the frequent crashes and a number of bugs that should have been fixed since the German version of SW2 was released in early autumn 2006. If the developers see about getting the game patched up so that there's less crashes to desktop, gameplay bugs and corrupted savegames about, I will happily recommend this game. But right now, the annoyances are too many to truly give this a thumbs-up.

(Rant Warning)

I'm afraid that at least to me Starwolves 2 is really subpar, I liked starwolves 1(though voice acting got on my nerves and i'm afraid its worse this time though at least the main char's voice doesn't make me turn it off this time).

Very little real change from sw1 (as shown by them using the same tutorial for both)

Major Change is the mission system you follow objectives and get a few choices through the game that effect the story and what pilots you get, this was the same in sw1 where you select missions from list rather then chat dialogue.

"Huge game world with over 50 star systems and complete freedom to move from one to another"

This being one of the major Features is really just a waste of time(as far as i've seen) the change so you have to stop at trade stations to ship rather then doing it between missions adds very little to me(if there was more to do such as story sub quests rather then random missions would be worth it but i've seen none).

Mission wise, at least through the branch i've finished all the missions are far less complex then in sw1, go to point a kill ships mission done travel 3 jumps to next is 99% of the main missions

Other changes are a few new ships, motherships look has changed(and now has a pilot/eng), now rather then selecting missions from a screen and your ship starting in that sector, you now have to travel from gate to gate with the odd station or maybe some ships alone the way.

Now for shopping you have to dock at a trade station that stock some random items, to change anything on mothership you must be docked, you can also get jobs(almost all of them are just fly 1/2 way around the galaxy then kill, deliver or patrol something).

One last thing I noticed apart from the main plot being short(at least the route I took), the game goes from way too easy to Extreamly hard fights form 1 mission to next, gets to the point where your mothership gets killed in 0.001 secs on some missions.

On final note i'd say unless you really like space rts games give this a miss.
