Super Power 2...

It's a very interesting concept and a very daring one at that. The complexity that managing a modern nation provides makes it nearly impossible yet this game manages to beat the odds and deliver a very addicting result.

The interface is friendly and easy but has its downsides. The world map looks amazing but lacks detailed info when waging a war, it can be VERY confusing just to find out which troops are yours/on your side and which aren't the same issue with provinces who's province is this? who is currently occupying it? Also when controlling about half the globe and fighting a world war with the remaining independent nations... well it's no longer fun at this point due to this interface issue. There is a huge lack of color on the map.

Given this major flaw the game is still very addicting and stunningly good:

Diplomacy suites today's diplomacy model very well but is lacking some depth, nevertheless its a well aimed shot!

Economy has a huuuuge GIGANTIC amount of depth a major focus. You can control a lot of whats going on, how much will I invest in the never ending battle against corruption? How much will I invest in the national health care? What about the research for new cutting edge technology? Propaganda? Infrastructure? Ect...

Researching technology is also very interesting what fields will I focus on? Nuclear warfare? Naval? Air? Land? The best part of all is the ability to use the new technology to make your very own blueprints of lets say a new tank! Or a new fighter perhaps? What makes it even better is the fact that you can sell these blueprints, but the AI isn't to bright on this subject so this only goes for multilayer games.

Warfare is decent and could have been lots better if it weren't for the flawed map interface.

National intelligence warfare is also included and allows you to sabotage 'behind the scenes' but doesn't go in to much depth.

If you are looking for a total warfare modern society game than this game can satisfy your needs but will get boring very fast.

However if your looking into a more peaceful realistic game where your aim is to create a diplomatic/economic powerhouse then this game will amaze you as it did for me!

I'm talking about challenges such as: 'Can I stabilize Somalia and make it prosper?' 'Can I turn China into a economical powerhouse to be feared throughout the world?' 'What about North Korea?'

I'm going to end it here and hope I've given your enough information to make your decision about buying this game or not. Have fun & good luck!

One of the true global management strategy games that is real time, this is not a strategy game for the weak of heart. It has micro-management beyond belief for this is a true country management game in which you must balance the morality of the people, keep them on your side so they will not revolt or not re-elect you, while also defending yourself. The AI is also extremely aggressive if you make it so and will team up on you if you are a complete bastard when you play. However this is a truly rewarding game when you can convince other countries to literally do your wars for you and give you the land, if you are a hardcore strategy gamer, then this is a game for you.

The game has some good concepts...its interesting watching your country's economy grow and develop...AI is terrible, and it doesn't seem like inflation is calculated correctly nor do interest rates have the proper effect. If you can get it for less then $5 then its worth it if you are starved for some macro economic simulation. 2.5*

Fascinating idea with a mixed result. The interface is splendid (think Google Earth), the performance okay. However the a.i. is still a mess and the dreaded "autarky" bug still hasn't been fixed afaik.

This is a great old school simulator. Played it a lot as a kid, got it now to revisit the old days. Its very complex as old games tend to be, but reminds me a lot of the Supreme Ruler games but is more in-depth.

This game is alright but the biggest reason why I give this a bad ratings is because there is a file called joshua that AVG constantly detects as a virus. I had to remove the game because the only way I could install/play this game was to disable AVG. You might be able to find another virus detector that can run alongside this game but I didn't think it was worth the effort. It also doesn't run in higher resolutions.

It's a simulator and most of the game is trying to find the right mix to keep your country running strong without creating a massive debt. You have to balance your spending and try to tweak your countries policies in the right way to keep unemployment low, and keep your citizens happy. If you don't get re-elected it will end some scenarios so approval rating is important. The game doesn't feel realistic, but that wasn't a big deal to me. I think this game is unique, and if they could hammer out some bugs this one would be a winner.

SuperPower 2 is a Real-time strategy wargame developed by Canadian based GolemLabs and published by DreamCatcher Games in 2004, following SuperPower.[2] It was released between October 11 and November 19, 2004 in North America and Europe.

Players may join a game as any of the 193 nations recognized by the UN at the time of its development. All standard games start in the year 2001, with the player taking control of their nation.[3] They then must work toward their predefined goals, such as achieving world peace, balancing your nation's resources, or conquering the world, or, if they did not set any predefined goals, they have the opportunity to work toward developing their nation's infrastructure, increasing their military strength through new unit designs and development, and encouraging the economic and cultural growth of their nation.

Any nation not controlled by a player is considered an AI nation. If there are predefined objectives, the player will attempt to reach this objective to win the game. The AI will have their own objectives, which they will try to reach as well.[3] If and when the player and the AI have conflicting goals, it is up to the player, and occasionally the AI, to decide if diplomacy is the way to go, or if war is the answer to their problems.[3]

Because Superpower 2 is a real-time game, there is no preset end date. This means that a single game can, in theory, run indefinitely.[3]

An excellent game for it's time

I remember this being one of my all time favorite games but that was back when the Super Power franchise use to use Starforce. I've learned a lot since then and was really pleased to see this on Gamersgate DRM free. Playing it reminded me why I liked it so much, it really let's you dig your teeth into the game and make diplomatic treaties with some countries, allie with others and nuke the hell out of those you don't like. It's almost visceral in the way that it plays. Sure the graphics are old school but they work perfectly for this game AND... AND... and it's already up to version 1.4 here on gamersgate.

Thanks Gamersgate for carrying this great title.

Good game even if the internal polithics, the secret services, the diplomatic aspects of the game are not so well made...paying it you have the sensation that your only goal is to make more money and more weapons,It has also a bug that afther a while all countries will produce enaugh resources for themsealts and all the nations of world will become an autharchic type of economy.

I like this game better than Supreme Ruler series because of the political detail , however I think the economic aspect of the Supreme Ruler series has the edge. And when it comes to the military aspect its kind of a toss up. On one hand in Supreme Ruler it requires the person to deploy every missile and logistically is a little too in depth for me , and on the other hand Superpower 2 seems almost too simple. Having said that I give superpower 2 the edge because of the ability to commit covert actions such as a revolution, terrorism, espionage, assassinations, and frame another country for it.Also the economic warfare is easier and more useful in Superpower 2.

Simply an unbelievably fantastic game! Who wouldn't want to take india from an underdeveloped nation to a world dominating superpower with a GDP in excess of 40 trillion dollars in 2012!? Or maybe you would prefer to play as Liberia and secure the lucrative diamond trade once and for all? What about uniting the middle east through diplomacy... Or by force.

Make you're own treaties, don't like the UN? Leave and create your own. Do you think that the European Union is affecting your economy negatively? Leave and create your own common market treaty. Do you want to conquer the world as Australia but don't have enough military capacity to do it yourself? Make some powerful allies and get them to help you out.

The choices in this game are truly limitless!

With Super Power 2 you can take control of any (really, even the Vatican City...) modern nation to shape its destiny in the world. I liked a lot the intellicence and the technology mechanics. With the first one you can for example organize a coup and make everyone think aonther nation did it, then wait for the inevitable DoW and enter in war without making everyone tink you are an imperialist (quite realistic after all...). Talking about the tech system it allows you to build your own personilzed tanks ships elicopters and fighters, to use them or to sell them to other countries. Concluding is a good game: could have been better but also much worse.

NOT as good as the first. There are not many things to do in the game. It is just a waiting game. The first game was more involved and had better overall gameplay. SP2 is just a bore to play. For example, to establish a treaty with another country, you have to click on the diplomacy box, click on something else, click on something else, select the countries you want involved, click something else, click something else and finally send your treaty to not be approved by a majority of the recipients of the treaty.

This game is a great classic, where you can play any nation in the world with their own geo political stance... You can be as well a war like not wary nation... The game won't always force you to enter for no reason in war... The game have a good CPU artificial intelligence... So that's why i've buyed it!

A great old classic! I actually bought this game ages after it was released (i think 5 years later) simply because it was recommended by a friend.

Do not expect ground breaking graphics here, or any sound worth noting. However as far as pure strategy and geopolitical simulators go, this little game can still take on the best out there. Depth wise it can still hold its ground for sure and at this cut low price it is a really great bargain!

If youre into political roleplaying (online offcourse) this is a great game.

Some periods with alot of trolls and such, but if in a locked game this can

easily make you sit there for hours just planning how to dominate the world.

It has alot of bugs and such sadly, but the online rp experience weight it up i think!

Amazing game. Depth and detail are incredibly sophisticated, replay value is insane, and the mental challenge this game presents is too good for words.

Excellent game. Heavily recommended.

This game has managed to entertain me. That said, its dubious to say it will entertain most players. The game play, for the most, doesn't make sense (especially in economics) but it provides some interesting goals. I really enjoyed taking poor countries and building them into super powers (hence its name). Just beware the irrational AI and the odd game play ideas, but after you get used to it... it becomes quite fun in an odd way. The military aspect is actually quite in depth... but at the same time too simple. The AI nations rarely seem to buy your excess units (perhaps they have better of their own) and there is no indicator to how successful your diplomatic gestures will be. This game has flaws, but if you played the first one, or are interested in the idea it is worth a try.

If I could think of one word this game lacks, it would be polish. I think the core ideas are there, however it does not present a workable environment. Some aspects of gameplay leave you guessing. I think if the developers would have spent a bit more time with the tutorial, and a bit more time designing the finer aspects of the game it would be amazing. I would say though, if you've ever been curious what Mutually assured destruction would look like, then this is certainly your game.

The game has a lot of potential, yet like BigDog66 says, it is incomplete. A lot of sliders/functions without a real function. You'd have to spend a LOT of time on this game to be able to work your way 'round in it and then still you'll find the game lacks any real excitement. Too much fuz, too much waiting, and too little real action.

The only good thing about this game is the scrollable globe.

Before buying this game you should do some investigation. There are lots of reviews out there that i unfortunately did not read before i wasted 9 pounds on Superpower 2. I belive that theres even a demo out there that you can download. I strongly suggest that you try before you buy this time.

For a game that is supposed to be about governing a nation it has surprisingly few options or tools on how to actually run it.

You can change a few sliders here and there, and you can make treaties with other countries, but they dont really do anything. You can change any country you like into a military dictatorship on monday, a communistic country on tuesday, a democratic country on wednesday and then just repeat as long as you like. There is no penalty what so ever. Oh sure you have a slider that shows popularity, but it seems like it does not matter at all, for anything. Its just a number.

If you expect to have to handle popular unrest, civil wars, intelligent communication between nations and intricate national budgets then youre into a really bad suprise. One example is the UN wich is nothing more than a treaty "that improves relations between members".

The military part is a joke.

First of all your taking a risk when going to war to begin with, because there is no way to see who your to be enemy is allied with. Simply no way.

The AI (wich is a disgrace to begin with because theres no I to be seen anywhere) Will cramp all his units into one region and then attack you, or defend againts you. There is no territory, the units move with the speed of light, even over water. Yes there is no consideration of water. The units takes one day from one end of the world to the other within a few seconds. Naval units are just a joke since land units just bypass them.

There is no peace treaty. You have a annex treaty wich takes 6 months to come into action. In those 6 months you are still at war, and other nations, seemingly completely random may decide to intervene.

Nuking a country would in the real world give you some really bad attention. But in Superpower 2 it seems as if its not a big deal if Iran makes Israel into a nuclear waste desert. Maybe the popularity slider goes from 48,9 to 48,7.

I love games like Europa Universalis, Hearts of Iron, Victoria and Crusader Kings, and was expecting the same amount of complexity. Superpower 2 is not even on the same scale as those games.

My advice is, stay away. Fire up your old Amiga 500 instead if you like games that belongs in the 80's.
