GAME SUMMARY

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Clear Sky

Rating: 4.3 (224 votes cast)

The story of S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky brings the players one year prior to the events of the original S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game in 2011.

A group of stalkers has for the first time reached the very heart of the Zone – Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, and brings about a cataclysm on the brink of a catastrophe. An immense blowout of anomalous energy changes the Zone. There are no more reliable and relatively safe roads. The entire levels vanish in the outbursts of anomalies. Stalkers and even expeditions die or end up sealed on the lost territories. New areas, which remained unknown since the time of the Zone emergence, appear on the Zone map. The Zone continues to shake with blowouts. The Zone is unstable. The anomalous activity is at its maximum.

Changes of the Zone map known to stalkers shake the fragile balance of forces in the Zone. Among the groupings, there flare up hostilities for the new territories, artifact fields and spheres of influence. There are no more old enemies or friends – now everyone is for himself. The Factions War has started between the groupings.

The protagonist is a mercenary who appeared at the edge of the opposition between stalker factions, Strelok and even the Zone itself. The main character will have to play the key role in the events, which led to creation of the Zone up to the point from which the original S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game begins.

What’s waiting for stalkers in the opened depths of the Zone? Which new challenges bear in the new territories? Why blowouts continue shaking the Zone? Why did the Zone change? How to remove its instability? Which faction will take the upper hand in the clan opposition? Why did Strelok end up in the death truck? What happened to Strelok prior to that? Was there any other choice to make? These and many other questions will get answered in the official prequel S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky.

  • Atmosphere of the Exclusion Zone
  • Research of new depths of the Zone – Red Forest, Limansk, Pripyat Undergrounds and more.

Fun game, would be nice if it were multi player co-op... but I suppose someone would say it'd ruin the game... there needs to be more FPS co-op games! Anyway all around a fun game :D

This is one of the most interesting games I have played. Well, at least regarding First person shooters.

It is the sequel to STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl(SoC), the story itself plays before the events in SoC. You are playing a guy named Scarface, who has to hunt Strelok, a character you should be familiar with if you played SoC. Why? Well that`s explained during the first few minute of the game.

A few features: Faction sytem, which unfortunately does not work that well as the factions sometimes eliminate their enemies quite fast.

Weaponry: Well mostly russian firearms , but there are quite a few western ones( NATO/USA) too.

The game is unfortunately not as good a the newest part of the STALKER family : STALKER: CALL of Prypiat.

There are however quite a few mods out there which greatly enhance gameplay: take a look for example at Planet-Stalker.de which is a good german source for mods. STALKER.filefront.com is a good source for these too.

So if you`ve got a few bucks to spare, try it. At the moment it costs about five €, which is quite a bargain.

This game is a good buy. You get to control a character who's mission is to eliminate a guy called "Strelok". On your journey, you get to handle a variety of weapons, complete numerous interesting and creepy quests, fight clan wars and hunt for artifacts. The game also offers a very, very creepy truelike atmosphere that will make your pants drop.

Even though the game is good, I must admit that this is not that good compared to Shadow of Chernobyl. The plot is the same, just new environment and content. The clan wars is an annoying thing aswell, since if you want to really benefit from the clan you choose, you must almost completely eliminate the opposing clan... and that is very frustating to carry out. They spawn quite fast and attack the perimeter you just conquered, thus you must go back and reconquer it.

All in all, I recommend this, but bear in mind, this is the worst of the 3 games. 3/5 stars.

Clear Sky is a sequel to the very popular Shadow of Chernobyl, though it is set prior to the first game.

The feel is much the same as SoC, with only a few changes to the gameplay. So, if you liked SoC, you'll probably like CS just fine!

Factions are the biggest change to the gameplay, as it gives the game a bit more of a mission-based feel; it puts more emphasis on the mercenary aspect and less on the exploration aspect.

Playing SoC first is not necessary, though I would recommend it, as it helps you understand who some of the characters in this game are and how everything fits into the overall story of the series.

I would also recommend playing it with the excellent Clear Sky Complete mod installed, which improves textures, sound and music, fixes a few bugs and makes some minor tweaks to gameplay.

Everything about the game was very enjoyable. My only complaints would be the occasional bug or glitch, and that the loading times are not great (as with SoC). There were some very enjoyable and memorable missions. Overall, great!

The STALKER series is one of my favorites. They combine FPS gameplay with inventory management. That's probably my favorite part, the inventory management. I love looting corpses for their guns and medkits, then reaching the weight limit and having to quickly scan my inventory for junk to throw out while people shoot at me. This describes just about 90% of the encounters I've had with human enemies... Mutants are another story. The combat works very well, but in my opinion the inventory management is what really makes it fun. Up to this point, however, I've been describing every game in the series -- only so much is exclusive to each game. So as for what is specific to S:CS...

Clear Sky introduced a weapon upgrade and repair system to the series. This is a great improvement on the previous system, in which you had to search for special, pre-modded versions of weapons. These would run out of uses, however, and you'd be back to crappier weapons. I very much like the upgrade system for several reasons. It gives the feel of RPG systems, and it means I end up carrying some weapons from the beginning of the game all the way to the end. I don't need to, and there are certainly better weapons in some cases, but these weapons are *my* weapons, the ones I've brought all the way to that point. Also the ammo is cheaper for earlier guns.

CS also introduced a faction war system. Though the STALKER series always has you at some point get involved in the fight between Duty and Freedom, Clear Sky has a sort of mini campaign in which you fight for a faction to defeat their rivals. This is buggy as hell, though, and it wasn't even brought to the next game in the series, a fact indicating how good of a system this was.

CS's graphics are excellent, too. I love the weather effects. Google it, they have tech demo videos which prove this point much better than I can explain in words.

One big issue I must mention is that the game is quite buggy. I can only recommend playing it with the Clear Sky Complete mod installed, which not only improves the graphics, but the stability as well. Oh, and performance. On a gts250, this game ran smooth as butter.

While I'm on the subject of S:CS:C, I'd like to mention the atmosphere of the game. It is improved by the mod, but even in the vanilla form of the game it is excellent. Despite being ruined somewhat by the easily accessible quick save, the game still manages to get me scared in its dark underground segments (of which there are, tragically, very few in this iteration) and intense firefights. Unfortunately, a certain sequence was somewhat anticlimactic in my first playthrough due to various bugs that resulted in a 'boss' character just standing there, waiting to be shot at. Additionally, the first time I neared completion of this segment, this boss had somehow attained invulnerability, forcing me to start over at the beginning of the sequence. This is nothing new, really, the STALKER series is known for being buggy, but this segment was really story-heavy and my experience wasn't that great.

Speaking of story, this game is a prequel, and as such, you don't need to play the first game to understand it.

All in all... Yeah, it has it's bugs, buuuut... play it.

The sequel of Shadow of Chernobyl, come with some graphics improved, a new story and new gameplay: Faction wars. Make sure you play Clear Sky with Clear Sky Complete mod which could found easily on moddb.com. This mod simply is a graphic enhanced, it does not change anything from game. A nice FPS game with some RPG elements. Recommended!

An excellent continuation in the series. As you can read from the official description, Clear Sky introduces several interesting gameplay elements in an immersing, huge and epic world that will hold you enthralled for countless hours. If you liked the first game, there's really no reason not to pay your visit to the zone once more. Happy hunting! :)

STalker Clear Sky has some nice features you will not find Shadow of Chernobyl as weapon and armor upgrades and especially repairs so you can ceep your favorite gun forever now.

Then there is also the faction war.

I think the fact that you can choose your side and battle it out with others who truly rules the zone is very nice.

The voiceacting seems to be very polarizing as my friends and me either liked or disliked it.

Personally I liked as it reminded me of some old B Spy Movies I liked a lot.

About the Graphics i would say that they are ok, nothing spectacular but also no cases of "God I think my eyes rotted away".

I think everybody who enjoy´s a story while shooting people/mutants/whatever will like Stalker Clear Sky.

P.S. : Though it is a Prequel to Shadow of Chernobyl

(I played that aswell) I did not notice a single instant where you did need knowledge of the SoC story

Summary:

-Nice Shooter with a good story

-Enjoable Firefights with a realistic feeling

-Good Mods out there in the net

-Average Graphics(Nowaday´s)

-Faction War will give you the feeling to actually achieve something for your faction

-Voce acting has a strong "wanna be" russian accent

(atleast in the German Voice Acting)

The original game offers better story and feels more fluent and less constrained, but Clear Sky is a nice piece of the collection nevertheless.

From the technical point of view, it offers a few minor graphical improvements over Shadow of Chernobyl, but nothing spectacular. Sound effects are above average, and the gun-upgrading system can entertain you for a while. The faction wars are a nice addition. Overall, I would rate it a 4.

Great game! Superb atmosphere, fantastic gameplay, good visuals and great sound! One would wonder why this isn't a 5/5 then: and that is because unfortunately the game is marred with bugs and glitchs that even though the game has underwent TEN updates it still has them aplenty...

That being said, this is a MUST play! What are you waiting for? Go, and grab this!

First of all, I've never played Shadows of Chernobyl, so I'll not make any comparisons between the two titles.

Clear Sky is absolutely a must-have, if you like FPS with a bit of story evolving by different types of action. Customization is limited to weapons and armors, but the economic system works, and makes you suffer a bit if you want to buy better equipment, when you approach the game for the first time.

Sound system also works very well, sending you exactly in the field, and sometimes it can really make you jump on your chair when someone start shooting at you from a hidden position, or when a creature crawls at your feet and start biting.

The faction system also can make you ignore the main goal, but you can be really satisfied following the destiny of the faction of you choice.

The game, overall, is a very good product. A bit difficult for someone who never played the first game (like me!), but in a couple of hours you'll manage to start kicking some ass!

The life of Zone becomes happier by graphic that improves.

It is possible to participate in all the factions except Monolith. Therefore, you can fight with the antagonist with the companion of your faction. Let's rule Zone in your favorite faction!

For STALKER fanatics, Clear Sky is definitely worth playing, but may prove disappointing. For the rest of us, I would recommend skipping this one and going directly to the much better-realised Call of Pripyat. Clear Sky is plagued by technical issues, as well as several gameplay changes that didn't really work in the minds of most fans. If this was the only game in the series, it probably would have received a rapturous reception; as it is, it lacks the sense of originality that made Shadow of Chernobyl so special, and simply can't compete with Call of Pripyat for technical polish, gameplay balance and atmosphere.

Shadow of chernobil was sort of a surprise for many. It mixed well elements from rpgs and fps. This was well received, especially, when it came from a small studio. The second installment constitutes a prequel of the previous game. The technical details are improved from Shadow of Chernobil, although this improvement implies a increased number of bugs and a bad optimization. The atmosphere is still similar to that of Shadow of Chernobil, however, there is no element of suprise compared to the first part of saga. In any case, This is a recommendable game if you liked Shadow of Chernobil.

Not quite the experience that the first one is, S.T.A.L.K.E.R clear sky is still worth playing.

If you are new to the S.T.A.L.K.E.R series the basic concept is that of an alternate reality revolving around the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. A second nuclear disaster has happened at the site causing odd changes in the area, mutants have appeared along with dangerous anomalies and valuable artifacts. These artifacts have lured several groups of people to the place. Known as stalkers, these individuals battle each other and scavenge the area.

The game is a prequel to the first game, S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow Of Chernobyl, so i would highly recommend playing that game first. It is a tactical FPS with elements of roleplaying (you can carry a limited amount of items/weapons, trade with people and accept various "quests.")

Without spoiling the plot of either game, the real strength of these games are athmosphere. The oppresive and threatening atmosphere of The Zone is something every gamer should experience.

This game looses some of the horror elements of the first one and instead gains an added focus on wars between the different factions. If any of this sounds intriguing, it would be worth picking up, just make sure to play the first (superior) game before this one.

After just recently bought myself another FPS game, I wasn't planning on buying another one. But since this was on sale, I just bought it for later use, However, after trying it out, I was surprised, this isn't any ordinary FPS, its like an FPS and an RPG. These types of games are what I was looking for. An FPS with a touch of RPG on it. So in the end, I was playing this instead of the first FPS title I bought. If you are looking for an FPS game with a touch of RPG on it, this one is for you. Honestly, it is my first time playing S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series so I wasn't expecting what I'm getting, it turned out that I was missing a lot for not playing them.

Since it is my first time playing S.T.A.L.K.E.R., I cannot compare it with its other series, but, as a first time player of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Clear Sky, I'm very satisfied with it. I already mentioned that 'Game Play'-wise, it is already beyond best in my opinion, for graphics, it really pushes your hardware's capability so it is a good title for testing your gaming hardware. For those who don't have a good hardware, don't worry, you can still enjoy it since you can properly adjust the graphics to your hardware unlike other games that doesn't give you the liberty to adjust graphics details.

I just have only 1 negative comment about this game, when there is a dialogue, the protagonist doesn't seem to have any voice file at all so it is sometimes a bit awkward to listen to a seemingly monologue conversation. But that's too minor to be considered negative at all.

Btw, I have read from some reviews that there was a problem with the 'sun ray' on some hardwares, although I didn't seem to have encountered that, perhaps you should check that before buying this title, but according to them, it is very negligible (perhaps that's the reason i didn't notice it at all. Yeah I do read reviews first before buying, you should too ^_^.)

Overall, I gave this game a solid 5. Good Graphics, Good Sound, Good Story, Good Concept, Good Game!

Stalker Clear Sky is a very interesting game. Having played the original Stalker, Clear Sky is much improved in several ways, but most importantly the atmosphere of the game has improved. The game is slightly pushed more toward the survival aspect of the Zone. The original Stalker made you fend for yourself but it was almost too easy. Clear Sky makes life a little more difficult and fun; your survival instincts kick in more fully, as every mission and exploration could be your last. You still have to be tough as nails to survive through much of the combat, as a couple well placed shots will kill you just as easily as your own attacks kill others. The faction system is also a welcome improvement. You're no longer the only mover and shaker in the Zone, as each faction is constantly vying for control of parts of the Zone, and you're usually needed to tip the balance. Unfortunately the biggest downfall of Clear Sky is the buginess; it is not perfect, and keep at least 3 different save slots. Be sure to patch to the latest update before you start playing as your saves will NOT be playable from this version. Other than that, Clear Sky is a fun game with some good adrenaline moments.

Under the caveat that I'm writing this about a fully-patched version of the game, I can only recommend Clear Sky whole-heartedly, especially for fans of the original Stalker.

Everything that made the original game great is here, but it's surprising just how new the game can feel at times. Even when moving through the original game's locales, the new emphasis on ground-based squad combat makes the game a very different take on the same general gameplay as the first. It's a much less lonely experience, and the horror aspect has been dialed down - while some consider these negatives, I don't. The first game still exists, after all. The tonal shift is a major reason why Clear Sky doesn't get boring.

That said, the level of overall tension is much higher - mostly because this game is much more difficult. Death comes faster, the odds are constantly against you, making money is very challenging (and losing it is easy). This is a high-stakes game, and it's all the better for it.

By tb87670 posted 30th May 2009

Stalker CS is what the original Shadow of Chernobyl should have been. It fixes what was broken in the original and adds plenty enough to make it an actually fun game to play, the first game was just too much hassle to get running back when it was newer.

For starters the technical side, I got Clear Sky to run faster than Shadow of Chernobyl. It also looks better and has anti-aliasing on, which makes the speed bonus so much better. next, widescreen support. This was sorely needed in the original, because all you can get nowadays for a PC is widescreens and games made around 2005-06 mostly didn't support that, giving you either a distorted fish-eye view or a window. Not in Clear Sky, it's supported and runs fine.

Gameplay. Now you can modify guns a variety of ways to make them your own, and some mods don't work with each other so you have to pick carefully. You can change the SMG from 9x19mm (the 9mm we use) into the 9x18mm russian bullet, which is at least 4 times as common in Clear Sky so you can go full auto without watching your hard earned money fly into bushes when you miss. Also you can repair stuff. This was sorely missing in the original, because special guns in the first game would be thrown away after you fire a few hundred bullets from them. Now you can make your own gun without randomly finding it and repair it to keep it forever, something to make you unique. You can also modify armor with nightvision or gasmasks, kevlar plates to stop bullets and hard leather inserts to soften the impact through the kevalr, etc.

To finish this there is also the faction system where you go to war against factions with the one you choose, and objectives are randomly made that you have to achieve on the fly. The more guys that die, the less you have on the field. Thees also equipment, the more resources you capture on a battlefield the better your guys are equipped, but the main difference I see is just them getting a notch up in the gun scale (double barrel shotguns to sub-machinegun) when the bar is really high, and in the middle of the resource bar your guys start chucking grenades more often. Nice touch in my opinion.

If you like the original, you will guaranteed like Clear Sky better no matter what. If you didn't like the original, you may like this one as it's glitch free in the 5 hours I played it so far. If you didn't try the original, well if you like realistic gunfights where you can die in a couple of shots with decent armor then give this game a try sometime.

My only complaint is the accent some of the voice actors have, English speaking Russian imitator who try to sound like communists were thought to in the cold war, a bit much fake accent but I can stand it because you can read the dialogue 90% of the time so it can be overlooked. 5/5 stars from me.
