Silent Hunter 4 Wolves of the Pacific review

Very good game... just a few minor issues. When you are using time compression, whenever you approach another vessel (plane, ship, etc.), the time compression ALWAYS slows down to 8. It doesn't matter if it is long range or shooting distance away from you. Another issue is that I found that my careers deleted themselves after a month or so of nonuse. The range of career patrols is limited, too. Other than that, excellent game.

I think fourth one is the best in silent hunter series and there aren't a lot of submarine simulations on the market. it's been on sale for quite a time now so don't expect very good graphics, but it's fairly realistic. if you played some of the older games you probably bought this already. in case you haven't (or started with the sh5) and if you like simulation games i think it's very well worth a shot.

A very nice submarine sim. One of the best Ive played so far. It is very simple for starters and for those who look for more of a challenge, settings can be tweeked that can make you feel like your actually dealing with real World War submarine problems. I would even rate this game above the newest edition of Silent Hunter 5 due to its in depth concentration.

Silent Hunter 4 was at his time a controversial title from the franchise. While it added a lot of new features to this sub simulation, the UI changed so much from SH3 that hardcore players felt lost at the beginning.

To my opinion SH4 is probably the best title from the Silent Hunter franchise (SH5 being an alpha game at its release, not playable without mods from community). The dynamic campaign from stock game is 100% dynamic, a must for the title. You start your career choosing the year of service, type of sub, and prestige points. I recomment you to start in 1941 on the asiatic fleet front using an old S-18 ;) for some challenge. The campaing will evolve and feature historic battle as you progress into the game. It is not a mission campaign at all. You do patrols after patrols, dock to base when you want, and can achieve a lot of bonus objectives during patrols. So basically all historic battles or events can occur while you are at sea, when others event would occur while you are at rest after a patrol (but if you were staying at sea you could have seen them too).

The modding community is also awsome. Visit the subsims forum for that. I strongly recommend the TMO mod that adds a lot to the game (more realism, 2 more subs, and so on...)

A great subsim game, better than SH3 and SH5 imho.
