Reviews

IGN.com Editorial:

  • “…hugely satisfying, especially for gamers that enjoy sniping in first-person shooters.”
  • “Sniper: Ghost Warrior is a promising entry in the FPS genre.”

Gamespot.com:

  • “In game terms, stealth is a big part of Sniper's challenge. Because many of the missions take place in the Amazon jungle, there will often be plenty of thick vegetation to hide in.”

ShackNews.com Editorial:

  • “I can see appeal to both ways of playing Sniper: one for its increased sense of satisfaction for hitting the shot -- complete with bullet chase cam to the perfect strike; the other for its simple pleasure of hitting a steady stream of headshots.”

Destructoid.com:

  • “Blending elements from many different shooters and stealth games, Sniper: Ghost Warrior ties everything together through the theme of shooting people from a distance.”
  • “…Oddly, it was the fact that enemies can actually see you and respond realistically that was the most impressive element to Sniper: Ghost Warrior.”
  • “The great thing about Sniper: Ghost Warrior is that the “vision cone” of the game is insanely huge, so even though you might be hundreds of feet away from an enemy, they are more than capable of seeing you through a crack in a fence, or from across a canyon. It's a weird little element of the game that I found to be very impressive, something that was oddly realistic.”
When the democratic government of Isla Trueno is overthrown, an aggressive and hostile military command rises to power. A highly trained special ops unit is sent in to help the rebels accomplish objectives that only a sniper can handle. In addition to intense sniper missions, players will also take part in a variety of assault scenarios where their prowess with weapons will be a huge help to the undermanned rebels. Sniper: Ghost Warrior seeks to challenge players in new ways so that the game is both demanding and entertaining.

Developed by City Interactive’s dedicated next-gen games studio, Sniper: Ghost Warrior delivers an impressive visual and technological gaming experience and features a realistic ballistics system that measures bullet trajectory, bullet drop and environmental effects such as wind, fog & rain. Encompassing a wide array of single and multiplayer levels, players will encounter a variety of challenging terrain. Players take on the role of a Ghost Warrior, an elite sniper in a highly trained special ops unit, whose unique skills in the art of stalking, target detection, surveillance and shooting accuracy will determine mission success. Covert missions force players to operate undetected as they attempt to eliminate hostile enemies one head shot at a time.

Key Features:

  • The most realistic sniping experience in a video game ever, right down to managing your breathing for increased accuracy of sniper shots.
  • Enjoy a fully realistic ballistic system that accounts for bullet trajectory, including bullet drop and environmental effects such as wind, fog & rain.
  • Pull off the perfect headshot and watch your bullet strike the enemy with pin-point accuracy in Bullet Cam mode.

  • A variety of mission types ranging from sniper vs. sniper elimination, real-time tactical assault and fixed machine gun combat.
  • Play as two separate characters: the sniper and the spotter.

Sniper Ghost Warrior Gold Edition Review

By NeBy posted 4th April

Sniper Ghost Warrior Gold Edition is a great game especially if you haven’t played the original game. I had the luck to buy it in promotion so I didn’t pay that much, I don’t know if I would have ever bought the game if it had costed € 30 or more. But the gameplay is still great; one of the things I really liked are the slow-motion headshots which can get really bloody. The extras with the gold edition are:

- the m200 or intervention (sniper)

- the L96 (sniper)

- the Dessert Eagle (handgun)

- Capture the flag multiplayer game mode

- a new campaign called Unfinished Business.

I have also heard people complain that you can’t use the new weapons in the multiplayer, I have to say that this is not true, you can use them, but only if the host of that lobby has the gold edition as well. About the multiplayer: it is for experienced players, it is really hard to spot other players.

Now about the new campaign; I have got to say that it are only 3 missions. But still all missions in this game are pretty long and give you a great variety in options to find a good spot. However, not everything is great about the game, sometimes there are 'flying trees' and the little details in this game are rubbish, also the animation for throwing your knives and throwing your hook are pretty fake.

So at the end it has a great gameplay and I played it very long, but the 'finishing touch' is rubbish and if you already have the original game, I recommend not to buy this game since the stuff you get extra is not worth the (full) price.

Great deal if you don't already own the original version.

This review is for "Sniper: Ghost Warrior - Gold Edition". If you don't already have the original game, then the Gold Edition is the one to get. It contains "Unfinished Business", which is a new single-player campaign, along with a new Capture The Flag multiplayer mode, two new sniper rifles, and a Desert Eagle pistol. I'll confine this review to the Unfinished Business SP content, because I don't deal with multiplayer at all.

The "Unfinished Business" campaign is only 3 missions long, so don't expect much.

City Interactive claims "refined AI" for this campaign, but I'm not seeing it. To me, this looks and plays very similar to the original missions. Which doesn't bother me, as I enjoyed the original game, but the three new missions really seemed like more of the same. The missions are pretty decent in length, but just as linear as the originals. Some details seemed unfinished, which you can see by looking around where you're not supposed to go. It's a linear game, so you can't wander too far, but for instance, if you crawl under the docks in mission 2, you'll see where they didn't bother to put the dock's pilings all the way down to the water. Other areas have random floating trees. Minor details, but still annoying condidering I paid the price for another edition of this game just to get the three new missions.

As it is, if you already have the original game, wait for a sale if you're in it for just the SP missions. If you don't already have this game at all, then the Gold Edition is the one to get, and I wholeheartedly recommend it. Ghost Warrior is a good sniping game, and fun. Overall, I deducted a star for its reliance on heavy scripting and linearity.

Install notes: I already had my original Ghost Warrior game installed, and the installer refused to do a clean install elsewhere on my drive, wanting instead to repair my files, which I attempted but failed. So, if you have the original game installed already, uninstall it before installing the new Gold version.

Also, this Gold version gave me no weird error messages, like the original version did. Once I uninstalled the original game, the Gold version installed and launched with absolutely no problems whatsoever. I had been worried about that given my past experience, but apparently the former problems have been fixed. My system: Win7 64bit, Core i7, GTX460 1 gig, 8 gigs system ram.
