SimCity 4 Deluxe Edition UK review

By Barkydog posted 25th December 2012

I bought Sim City 4 last night and as usual great service from gamersgate with fast payment and easy download.

On the game itself I think I’ve been spoilt by more recent games since I used to play Sim City 4 a lot on my previous computers and since the game was on sale I thought why not try it again?

No faults with the game itself since that works as well as ever. Apart from the fact the graphics are now not as good as I remember them. Buildings and details are less sharp and feel blurred when you zoom in.

(Then again that could be my eyesight rather than the game itself.)

The game will work that is the main thing and if you like games like this and can live with the fact the picture & detail might not be as sharp on a new gaming pc as more recent games then I would still recommend it.

The lack of sharper details on zooming in is no one’s fault keeping in mind this is an older game and computer technology advances all the time.

The good side is you can still have hours of fun with this and there is a lot you can do when building a city that will keep you entertained for hours.

I’ve given the game a 3 star ratting only because of how it looks on my computer but you might be happy with how it looks on your computer.

So many time after launching still is a great game. With mods like NAM it is still better. I suppose few this year games will survive so much. Nice promotion for just few bucks (probably to make new public to new version mar/2-13)

This is the best city-builder iv'e played, it has so much to it, there's nothing more satisfying than seeing your first big apartment crop up, it takes lots of time and effort to develop your city, but it really rewards you. It is very deep and complex and it will take some time to fully understand and get into, but it makes it all the better when you have the grasp of it.

A great, if not the best city builder ever made, even to this day this game stands out as a fantastic sim, with tons of mods this game is still an absolute blast to play.

This was my favourite city simulation game until my Sim City 4 Disc broke. I tried playing Cities XL but it just wasn't as good as this.

I came over to GamersGate and bought the Sim City 4 Deluxe Edition (the only one available) because their price was by far the best I'd seen (much better than Steam). After playing it I realised Sim City 4 Deluxe Edition was even better than the original Sim City 4 as it included many more new buildings and options as well as a greatly improved transport management system.

Great game, highly recommended to anyone looking for a comprehensive city simulator game.

The classic Sim game. Nevermind Societies; this game is pretty much where it's at if you fancy a bit of city-building.

Vastly complicated, after two days play I have yet to learn how everything fits together, but there is a particular joy in watching as your city grows, high-rises sprouting, and an almost equal joy in watching a city spiral out of control.

The neighbour deals feature means you can specialise cities - some cities can be geared much more towards your dirty, heavy industry, which seems to offer jobs to neighbouring cities with connections, and power or water production, selling the excess power or water to neighbours. Useful if you want your main city to be green, no pollution, no heavy industry, producing hi-tech goods.

If you've never played Sim City, this is the place to go (at least until SimCity in 2013, perhaps).

The Sim City series is the Godfather of city management games. Building on the success of the originals, Sim City 4 brings the genre to life with a great atmosphere, excellent visuals, a very fitting soundtrack and many hours of gameplay for old and young alike.

Starting from scratch, the player can immerse him/herself in a world they make their own. The decisions taken in the areas of health, education, transport (by road, on foot, by air and by sea), taxation, zone developement, resources (power, water) will make or break the city.

It doesn't just stop at one city though. Where SC4 really excels is the linking of several player-made cities, which work together, whether they are industrial, residential or rural.

The player interface is excellent, if a little daunting at first, however the excellent first-time interactive player walk-through should put even the most novice players on their way to their dream metrolopis with shops, parks, housing, motorways, subway systems, train networks glorious landmarks.

A great feature of SC4, which was not available on previous versions, is the ability to take control of various vehicles in the cities for bounty missions, which on successful completion can earn the player various bonuses, from special structures to cash prizes.

This game is an absolute must for veteraqns of city management sims, and also for new commers who want a real challenge far beyond the confines of a house like in The Sims.

Highly recommend, hours and hours of gameplay, which the player will come back to time and time again!

Simcity 4 is the latest game and hopefully not the last of the great Simcity franchise. No, I do not consider Societies as part of the Simcity franchise, Societies shouldn't have the Simcity name in front of it in the first place.

Whilst many people would vote Simcity 2000 with SCURKS(user custom made buildings) as the best Simcity ever, I would consider Simcity 4 with B.A.T.S.(user custom made buildings) equally as epic or maybe better.

Like in all Simcities, you build a city of your dreams. Whether it's a quaint little town or a bustling, busy metropolis. To get anything resembling a dense, large city, you have to work for it. You have to keep your Sims happy, educate them, provide them with clean water, supply them with electricity, provide good healthcare, making a great transportation system which includes a network of roads, trains, subways, bus system, highways etc, enact ordinances, resolving disasters, providing security through police and fire fighting capabilities. All the while looking after your treasury and ensuring you do not go bankrupt. All in a days work for a mayor to be, you.

Also you have to aware of your population's demands, if you have many residents, be sure to pop up enough jobs for them. This is where Simcity 4's Region Play come into scope. You will have, at times, to support your main city with several neighbouring cities like for example building Industry zones in your neighbouring city if you do not want your main city to have Industry.

Seeing the first level 8 Commercial Office tower pop up in one of your cities is one of the most satisfying game experiences ever.

And last but not least, the best part of Simcity 4, the B.A.T.S. which are user-made buildings, props and landmarks. There are probably about thousands of BATs to use in Simcity 4 in Simtropolis, enough to make any city of your dreams, any real-life city, making the possibilites in the game limitless. Here's a link to some of the popular BATS:

http://www.simtropolis.com/stex/?p=files&type=BAT&page=1&display=popular

And just a great example of what type of cities can be made with BATs:

http://www.simtropolis.com/cityjournals/index.cfm?p=view&id=1408&page=2

You can even make your BATs yourself. You will need to know at least alittle about 3D Modelling, if not there are several tutorials in Simtropolis to get you started. The other great part of the game, is making BATs yourself and seeing other players use your buildings in their cities.

All in all, Simcity 4 is a great experience which is why I bought it here even though my boxed copy is still in pristine condition after 7 years.
