Settlers 7 Deluxe Gold Edition review

My assessment of this game is double fold: I love the game, and the new direction the Settlers has taken. For this it would deserve 5/5. But I hate the 'always on internet' DRM. Not just because I hate it in principle, but mostly because it does not work properly for me. I experience a random disconnection every 30 minutes, and thus the game is mostly unplayable to me. I have other games with this horrendous requirement, and they all play just fine, but The Settler 7 does not want to cooperate with me. I hope they will release soon a patch getting rid of this unacceptable requirement. If they do, it is a highly recommended game. If they don't, I cannot recommend it.

Well, bought it on sale couple of weeks ago and definately no regrets. Have been playing the campaign for a couple of weeks now and it is interesting, challenging and lots of fun. Although the repaeating is an issues with these games, starting you economy from scratch again and again, the map, the opponents and the special characters do make it different for each game. If you are looking for a game which will entertain you for a couple of weeks and you like the settlers genre. It is well spend money.

Great game that goes back to the early style of settlers games, perfect for when you want to chill a bit and play a slow "management" game.

This game apparently had enormous problems with graphic driver bugs upon release, and it still has plenty of them left. The game keep dumping graphics memory and crashing randomly now and then. Apparently it doesn't support neither the latest Nvidia nor ATI cards very well (I tried it with both GTX480 and ATIHD5870, same random crashes no matter card). So if you happen to have a graphics card of any kind in your computer, you should avoid this game...

Despite the DRM, there's no mistaking that this game is great fun. Raising your kingdom and waging wars amongst others while ensuring domination through victory goals. The possibilities are endless. High recommended for those with a constant internet connection.

Although most reviews have been ill-tongued, I find Settlers 7 to be a highly enjoyable sim-game.

The campaign is fun, with lots of detail in characters and cutscenes and the general gameplay is satisfying.

If you see it on sale, grab it.

Was kinda a slow starter for me but as ive played on can really see the depth they have put into the game. With tech trees, trade routes, and prestige trees has alot to keep you busy.

Have been able to finish most maps without finishing all the research options which is something ive always liked in games.

This is my first Ubisoft game and I am quite pleased. Aside from a technical issue with the most recent patch messing up the data files, my experience has been fine.

What is best about this game is the campaign. I am generally not a fan of campaigns as I prefer sandbox mode where I can do whatever I want. But this campaign has been interesting and challenging, which is a nice change.

The graphics are also beautiful.

The game is enjoyable. Ubi has changed thr DRM so you only have to have your internet connection upon your initial log in. As always it is a great reource management game. It is highly addicitive and easy lose many an hour playing this game.

A really entertaining, fun and nice looking strategy game of the simplier sort.

If you never played a settlers game before, i would highly recommend this.

Have you played Settlers 1-3, i can say that it is actually very good and pretty close to the first three games.

Settlers 7 is an interesting new take on the series. The art style is a little more stylish/"cartoony", but the gameplay is fun. There's a little bit of abstraction, but there's still a good deal of resource interdependencies and management. The map is sort of a maze of connected control points/provinces which you can take over (militarily or otherwise). There's also some persistence with Ubisoft's Uplay feature. All in all, it's a fun game if you like builder games. The military portion of it is very easy to manage, it's definitely not an RTS, so it should appeal to anyone who likes well made builders. I tend to think of this game as Anno/Dawn of Discovery Lite, in a way. A definite recommendation.
