R.I.P. review

A straight up shooter that is just plain action. There is some very, very limited RPG elements in that you can level up your character, but this has a rather limited effect on the game, or rather it did for me since most of the upgrades didn't seem to do as much as I would have though (then again, I only played as Death... yes you can play as Death).

Oh, before I forget that I am reviewing RIP 1 and not 2, this particular incarnation of the series has the player in an immobile turret. I maintain that this one is the best of the series, but followed closely by the 2nd (very closely).

You play a stationary turret gun shelling away at enemies that come from all sides and angles. After each completed level you can upgrade the skills of your avatar you chose to play to become even more deadly.

Over all i found the game very repetetive and did not take the opportunity to play it again with another type of char (You can choose 3 different skill trees).

I thought it more to be a tower defense game. But sadly there is as good as no strategy involved in this title.

Very important:

As mentioned by other users before i had to download the newest "audiere.dll" file and swap it with the old one to get the game running.

The first episode of the RIP saga is probably the weakest one, but it's still great fun for a less than bargain price. I suggest you to take the whole trilogy pack if you want to support the developer, but if you're unsure, you should probably pick this one up. Bright graphics, fast paced gameplay and a lot of weapons and explosions!

Note: some users report compatibility problems under Windows 7, if you're under that os you could buy R.I.P 3 instead, still, I have Windows 7 64-bit and encountered no issues with any of the games.

Awesome action-packed series that doesn't tax your notebook and laptop ! Also come with a great RPG-like level-up system and characters classes with unique skills. For $1.24 that I paid for the whole trilogy, I can't think of more addictive entertainment than this.

NOTICE : for those who's got problems with starting up RIP and RIP2, search for the latest edition of audiere.dll and put it in your game folders.

Pretty simple overall play mechanics on this one. You are a stationary turret shooting enemies coming from all sides. It can get a little overwhelming at later moments making it hard to get anywhere around stage 3 or 4.

Also of note, I'm not sure what the whole Grim Reaper, Halloween, etc theme of the characters has to do with anything.

Also if you're really interested in this you may want to look into the R.I.P. Trilogy, it's a couple bucks more and includes all three games.

For the price, a pretty good game. The graphics aren't spectacular, nor is the game terribly complex; but it is an enjoyable arcade-style game nonetheless. You play as a stationary gun platform and blast the enemies which spawn around you. This garners you experience which in turn allows you to select upgrades (you can play as three different characters, each of which has two special upgrades in addition to the handful of general ones--the two unique upgrades are the only substantive difference between the characters).

There aren't a ton of different guns (which are dropped during each "mission" like power-ups) or enemies, but in my estimation it easily provides $3 worth of mindless fun.

Most importantly, though, there is an option to have the blood/gore of slain enemies animated as flowers, which is quite amusing (and somewhat family friendly!).
