Prey review

The gameplay is the best part about the game, and also the worst. At the begining, when you first use the portals, there are some really neat puzzles and ways to play. In certain areas, you look into a portal, and see yourself at another one(just don't shoot yourself, it hurts). There's also spirit walking, which is pretty cool. The only thing is, after a little bit, there are no more thought provoking puzzles...they die out. And usually the only time you'll spirit walk is to press a button that's on the other side of a force field. Another neat idea is that you don't die, you go to a spirit world. Here, you shoot demons with your arrows, to come back with more health or spirit. That is the biggest self blunder, because if you don't die, you don't stop playing. So you will probably breaze through this game in one day, or two if you're not a hardcore gamer. So all of the neat ideas here are good, then bad.

Still a worthwhile game to pickup.

A pretty much underrated gem. Crazy weapons and mind-blowing levels in an extremely original FPS, way ahead of its time (despite the 11-year development).

8.5/10

A unique FPS that did the whole portal thing a year before Valves entry, Soundtrack includes Don't Fear The Reaper, and one out of this world adventure that is no longer available on steam yet the key still registers.

Prey is an fps game in which you play as Tommy, a Cherooke who lives in a reservation in Oklahoma when an alien invasion abducts him, his girlfriend and apparently, many other earthlings too.

The game opening is really good and gets you pump up to play the game. Gameplay is pretty good, with solid shooting/puzzle elements, unique alien weapons and some exciting firefights aboard a strange huge alien ships full of portals, gravity plates and other fun surprises. The graphics in this game is powered by id Tech 4 (Doom 3 engine) and still holds up quite well today.

In summary, Prey is a short and fun ride that will give you a nice afternoon of entertainment well worth its $9.99 price tag.

I did not quite understand this game. Maybe it was my expectations, I dont know. The graphics are great (for its time), and the game has a special feel to it. However, I was hoping for a great action game with a little bit of adventure in it, not what it turned out to be. I think this is one of those hat it or love it games.

One of the most original FPS that exist in today's market of games. And that's what we're missing. Buy without fear, and play A LOT!

I didn't know much about Prey before buying it. I though it would be a normal FPS with aliens, in the line of Doom 3. Nonetheless Prey is actually an underrated game. The gameplay is fluid enough and the IA is quite good. There is something that should be appraised: the number and difficulty of the puzzles that make the game quite challenging. Also, the cherokee abilities of the main character provide some fun. Although the game is from 2007, the visuals are still atonishing in some parts of the game, especially the representations of the aliens and the spaceship which remind me of some sci-fi films.

My score: 75 out of 100

A FPS with some interesting twists, where you play as a Cherokee guy to save the Earth from hostile aliens.

Gameplay is straightforward, but with few unique systems in.

Most unique one is Spirit Walk and Death Walk, Tommy(protagonist) is able to leave his spirit from his body, allowing him to pass through certain obstacles(fires, forcefields, cameras, etc) and sneak behind enemies(they can still attack you if you're already spotted).

Also, Game doesn't end if you die, but forcing you to enter the Spirit world(this one's called Death Walk), hunting evil spirits down for Health and Spirit Energy, then back to life and fight again.

All weapons have primary and secondary fires, and they're quite generic for FPS(Assault Rifle/Sniper, Minigun/Grenade, Shotgun/Rocket etc), except for the Leech Gun(its 2nd fire absorbs elements from certain nodes, 1st fire attacks with elements you leeched) which is quite cool.

Level design is great, with some uses of wall-walking parts(sometimes you walk on the ceiling and fight enemies on walls, that'd get you some dizziness!).

Graphic is most organic and possibly the best for id Tech 4(first used in Doom 3).

Sound is okay, and the first level has a jukebox with some famous artists.

Very good FPS... but it's REALLY short.

I've finished Normal difficulty in 3 or 4 hours, and I'm not bothered to play Cherokee(hard) difficulty unlocked after beating Normal.

Utterly incredible visuals. Thoughtful puzzles. Ingenious levels. Cruel enemies. One of the best shooters ever. Love it... gotta reach Jen and save her quick! Truly brings out the Cherokee in you!
