Prince of Persia The Sands of Time review

First off, this is a great 3D puzzle/action platformer that holds up quite well for its age. I am not a huge fan of the original DOS version so for me this game is a huge improvement. The world and puzzles are well designed and I never felt lost as to where to go or what to do. The combat is quite fun but sometimes feels a bit tedious since you mostly fight enemies in hoards, but it gets better as you get new abilities and face new types of enemies. Overall a very fun game and now I need to get the sequels out of my backlog.

Such a great game...

Being an avid fan of the old 16-bit Prince Of Persia games, it was odd that I had spent only a couple of hours on this game in the 8-something years since it was released. So many games, so little time you see. Well, it turns out I was missing a lot!

This is 3D platforming at its best. The gameplay simply draws you in and makes you want to keep on trying without frustrating you a bit. The stages are uniquely clever in their design and even if there are some fights that require skill, there's nothing that the persistent player won't finally make through. The atmosphere of the game is simply magical. Truly, a great game.

I have also purchased the game's sequels and I can't wait to finish The Sands Of Times to move on to them. All in all, this is a great game for fans of action and platforming. If there are people out there like me that have missed it all these years, I wholeheartedly suggest getting it.

Great 3rd person puzzle platformer

First off, the good. This game gives you a wide range of movement abilities, including running and jumping off any wall, something not very common in games. And while areas in the game are somewhat confined, they are well design, and it still feels quite exhilarating to move acrobatically from one end of a corridor to the other. The puzzles are really the best part of the game, with you jumping from wall to wall hitting switches and levers while avoiding deadly traps. As its name suggests, you get the ability to rewind time, which means if you screw up a tricky move, you can just go back a few seconds instead of staring at the game over screen. The game also does a great job of throwing something new at you (ropes to swing from, rotating mirrors) just as the last suite of puzzles start to get old.

Combat, while tedious at the beginning due to seemingly endless hoards of similar enemies, gets much better later on. The main trick I find is to use your time powers and special attacks liberally, which make fights go faster as well as more fun. Plus the later battle music is more awesome.

My main gripe would be the camera, which tries to fix itself at certain locations and can be a bit annoying. Its nowhere near as bad as some other games I've played though.

The game's graphics have also aged very well. Smooth edges and nice fog/lighting effects mean that it still looks quite pretty.

Prince of Persia The Sands of Time review

I've played Prince of Persia (the original DOS one) but never got really interested in it. The Sands of Time was the game that hooked me to the Prince of Persia series.

The gameplay is just perfect. Being able to jump everywhere, walk on all walls, the mechanics couldn't be more perfect than it is! And the ability to get back in time and try again if you made a little mistake. That really is a plus!

It's impossible not to recommend this to any serious gamer!
