Victoria: Revolutions review
A lot of experience in fascinating period of revolutions. Interface exchanged, polished and more useful, more options and... more fun. Fantastic way to explore victorian era. Strongly reccommended!
With Revolutions Victoria gains a better AI, an extended timeline and improved game mechanics making it a perfect simulation of trade, colonization, industry and war of one of the most complex, controversial and fascinating periods of european's and world's history. Lead the dixies to gain their independence, the mighty british crown to the conquest of the indian empire or the little sabaudian king to rule a free italy! But remebrer, never run out of canned food.
Victoria: Revolutions review
Apart from expanded playable timeline (right up to 1936) and correspondingly expanded technology tree, this expansion tweaks so many aspects of the gameplay, especially in the pops political dynamics, that it feels like a completely new game.
Unfortunately, some troublesome aspects, specially in the area of immigration to the new world, remain. Also the AI is not very good in choosing provinces to be acquired as a result of war, and thus it often creates oddly shaped and indefensible borders.
But all in all, Victoria: Revolutions is an excellent expansion of an already breathtaking game.
Victoria: Revolutions review
Revolutions is a great expansion to Victoria. Like all of Paradox's games the expansion is necessary to fully enjoy the game, it fixes many bugs and expands much of the game. If you want to play Victoria there is really no reason not to have Revolutions as well.
Victoria: Revolutions review
Revolutions makes Victoria a "must have" game for the 'grand strategy' gamer. With the depth of detail you can go into in managing your empire, this game has more replay-ability than HoI2.
Victoria: Revolutions review
This is an excellent game that has been handicapped by insufficient attention from its' creators. The most current version of the game STILL has bugs which seriously impede gameplay. These have been fixed by game modders (see Paradox Interactive Forums for details), but with some extra love this game would have been a much better play, and thus probably made Victoria II a better game too.
Victoria: Revolutions review
While Victoria may have been a good game in its heyday, a playthrough in 2011 will prove that game simply hasn't held up over time. While the Europa engine is admittedly getting old, games like Darkest Hour and Arsenal of Democracy have shown that the engine can still offer a fresh, fun, and clean gaming experience.
The expansion expands on the features of the vanilla game with an extended timeline, expanded tech tree, and additional political and economic options, but these additions fail to fix the inherit problems of the base game. The interface is still impossible, and gameplay is still a chore. If your computer can handle it, opt for Victoria II.
Victoria: Revolutions review
An excellent add-on to Victoria. It fixes most of the bugs in the original game and greatly expands on the gameplay and the players options for leading their nation.
Victoria: Revolutions review
Victoria I is a must play for Paradox fans. The game is simply amazing and the wide plethora of mods can make your experience with the game last for pretty much ever. The downside is that it's the most unwelcoming for new players of all Paradox games. If you are willing to look past the fact that you don't have any idea what you're doing throughout your first few games, you'll find this to be just the strategy you were looking for your whole life.
Victoria: Revolutions review
This game should be brilliant but most of the time you are just watching the AI play itself. Beutifully rendered, deeply detailed, some excellent ideas, but dead dull to play. No competition for the HOI or EU franchise and, it terms of enjoyable game play, weaker than Victoria I.
Victoria: Revolutions review
Victoria 1 is very good when combined with the expansion. It extends the timeline to 1936 and also includes alot of new units for the period between the wars. Also improves the population alot with new intuitive pop splitting mechanisms and alot of new handy interface improvements. Now you can take a quick glance and see who's producing the most liquor or cloth in the world for instance and runner ups. Great expansion, if you have Vicky1 then buy this if you haven't.
Victoria: Revolutions review
I always felt that Victoria got the short end of the stick in terms of critical reception. Though there is certainly a learning curve (like most dynamic/rich historical "lead/run a nation" simulators), it has some unique features that make it more than worth exploring and playing. This game's take on citizens (broken into political-ethnic groups with different goals/desires/etc) as well as war and economics make it a quality game overall.
Victoria: Revolutions review
Plays a lot like Victoria 2m but with a lot more options. Very interesting strategy simulator where you don't need to be at war to have fun. War plays out similar to the Hearts of Iron games and I think I might like that better than the Victoria 2/Eu3 setup. Quite a lot different than the sequel. Its definitively something you'll spend a lot of time playing, and you don't need to even manage the economy if you don't want to.
Victoria: Revolutions review
This is the game you will keep your pc around for far after xp fades from glory. Paradox has spent her time well on this one. If you only want one strategy game around this is the one.
Victoria: Revolutions review
Improved, enhanced and advanced version of Victoria. As you launch this, you will sense better AI, more realistic economic model and longer period of game time, to intewar, as well. Plus neat bonus - you can convert your save game to Hearts of Iron 2 standard, thus continue game in another grand strategy. Play your own Grand Empire Creation.
Victoria: Revolutions review
This expac was excellent for anyone who loved Victoria but was frustrated by all the micro-management the game required. The improvements to the economic system alone make Revolutions worth-while.
Victoria: Revolutions review
Victoria is a very good game, but Victoria Revolutions makes it a great game. It may discourage some new players with complexity and micromanagement, but once one gets used to it and starts to learn the finer points of the game it is very fun. For someone willing to climb it's steep learning curve, this game is a masterpiece.
Victoria: Revolutions review
The expansion to Victoria which adds a few more gameplay tweaks and bug fixes. It's a must need companion for Victoria, and since it's bundled in Victoria Complete, it doesn't have to be sought after too much.
Victoria: Revolutions review
Really enjoyable empire-building game (from the peak era of empire-building, no less). Haven't played Victoria 2 yet, which by all accounts is even better, but if you're short of cash or processing power, this one is a might fine grand strategy title. Just be sure to download the fan-manuals from the web, as like most grand strategy titles, there's a bit to it.
Victoria: Revolutions review
This expansion is almost a must for any Victoria fan. Don't play the game without it! Newcomers to the Victoria games should beware though: Victoria is not an easy game to get into unless you have played similar games before.
Victoria: Revolutions review
Victoria is a great game, especially if you're interested in the history of 19th century. Very complicated, may discourage begineers, but rewards those who read the whole manual and tried to understand all the game mechanics.
Victoria: Revolutions review
A great addition to a great game. The game runs smoother since you can automate some unnecessary routine clicks. The way this game simulates society of this time-period is simply breath-taking. I highly recommend it to all Paradox fans. Also, get the VIP mod, as it really adds more to this gem of a game.
Victoria: Revolutions review
While this addon does take out some of the micro-management out, it doesn't twist the core mechanics of the game, it only makes it easier to manage larger nations, and also adds the great option to export to HoI2. EU3 is a great game, but Victoria+Revolutions is superb in many aspects, so this is a must have expansion. It increases the timeline and the depth of the gameplay.
Victoria: Revolutions review
Victoria Revolutions is the must-have expansion pack for Victoria: An Empire Under the Sun. The global marketplace of the 19th and early 20th centuries take effect. Supply and demand is more accurately modelled, the economic system revamped, historical possibilities increased and numerous bugs stomped out by the developers.
Victoria: Revolutions review
Victoria Revolutions is a "must" add'on for Victoria.
The game deep is increased, the timeline is longer and you also can contiinue to play converting the savegame into a Hoi 2 game.
If you have Victoria you have to tryout this expansion.
Victoria: Revolutions review
A great expansion to an already superb game. Revolutions not only extends the timeline into the mid '30s, but with the 'export' option you can continue the gameplay in HOI2. I have played EUIII and the HOI series, but Victoria with this expansion is by far the best (in my opinion).
Victoria: Revolutions review
Great set of new additions that help expand the new game and the removal of a lot of the more frustrating management of your empire. Nothing groundbreaking - simply a good add-on to expand a good original game that should really be included together when purchased.
Victoria: Revolutions review
A great addition to Victoria. Takes a lot of the micromanagement out of the game that makes controlling a large country frustrating. No complaints about this expansion except for the learning curve of Victoria in general.
Victoria: Revolutions review
Now, this is a true expansion! Being a big fan of Victoria from the very beginning, i have to admit i was a bit hesitant about the true usefulness of an expansion, but Revolutions proved me wrong. Introducing important game concepts, Rev. is an expansion in the truer sense of the word. Moreover, it should be considered an essential stepstone before going over to Vic II, a true must have for Vicky fans at a good price. And let us not forget, Rev. has become the basis for the best Vicky mods out there, a factor not lost to any community member, i' ll guess!!!
Victoria: Revolutions review
A really great game and i think and Revolutions improved the vanilla version quite well.
Much easier to play and less micromanagement (at least for me)
Also check out the VIP mod, because it really improve this game!
Victoria: Revolutions review
I didn't like this game as there was too much micromanagement involved. One has to keep track of all of its population (POPs units) in all provinces, promote them, find them jobs... Moreover, the interface used for the game is clunky, feels old and has so many layers that I would often lose myself and forget what I was trying to achieve. From what I understand, Victoria II addresses most of these problems, so I would definitely recommend that game over Vic I.
Victoria: Revolutions review
Victoria Revolutions bashes a few more bugs on the head whilst adding a few more enhancements to some of the less obvious areas of the game.
It's unlikely to make the game more loveable for those after a quick action fix, but for those who enjoy the cerebral challenge of Victoria, Revolutions was a welcome enhancement.
Victoria: Revolutions review
I said about vicky 1 that "Although Victoria II took the throne from now on, It is still worth having this game - they maybe sequels but they are quite different from each other and worth playing separetly." The same is true here, they perfected a lot of things and "victoria revolutions" is one of the best titles Paradox has ever released.
Victoria: Revolutions review
Revolutions fixes the bugs of Victoria and makes the game far more playable. It still lacks a good tutorial or documentation, so I would recommend referring to the wiki at Paradoxian.org, but it is no longer painfully difficult to figure out the interface. The improved political system is quite good too. Victoria: Revolutions is a solid game for people interested in late nineteenth and early twentieth century history.
Victoria: Revolutions review
A recommended expansion if you liked the original Victoria, however if you do not own Victoria yet, it is best to just buy the Gold Pack.
Don't let the size fool you, as the expansion mainly adds content via event scripts and enhancements which is made up of text code, and not fancy graphics, cinematic sequences, or audio which take up a lot of space.
Playtime in the campaign is extended by the expansion but also the expansion helps cut down a bit on the amount of micromanagement that you have to do and of course has the mandatory bug-fixes.
Victoria: Revolutions review
A must have for any strategy gamer, Victoria and Revolutions are innovative, addictive and immersive. Having glanded through the reviews here, I agree with every positive thing I've read, and wholeheartedly agree on giving VickyRev tops scores! Even with Vicky2 coming soon, you are missing out on hours of fun if you don't grab this one too.
Victoria: Revolutions review
This expansion is a must if you plan or own the original Victoria. This expansion fixes the problems people had with the first one. The new improvements help to make the game easier to play. The downside is that the developer still didn't include a infinite time mode. IF you wish to conquer the world in this game then the set time limit isn't enough. Some modders solved this problem but might take some research to find. So far one of the best RTS game I played so far
Victoria: Revolutions review
If you've played and enjoyed any of Paradox's other games based on the Europa Universalis engines, and enjoy games set in the 19th century, definately check this one out.
It's everything you'd expect and more.
Victoria: Revolutions review
A must-have in your Paradox selection! The vanilla version is a game with a great gameplay, it gives you extremely many oppertunities, but the game is filled with bugs! Especially when playing multiplayer. The expansion is a great improvement. It gives even more oppertunities and allows you to make your own history in details. Sadly this game also has several bugs in the multiplayer function which is a shame because of the lovely gameplay.
Victoria: Revolutions review
Adds accessibility to Victoria gameplay. Sort of like Ubuntu, it's Vicky for humans. Add the VIP mod and you've got a fully featured and mostly working game. If you've mastered EU2 and are looking for a real challenge, come here.
Victoria: Revolutions review
Victoria: Revolutions is a fantastic simulation of 19th and 20th century politics and economy. It gives the player the opportunity to shape the future economy and industrialization of his chosen country (there are a lot of them to choose from). You can wage war and engage in diplomacy with other countries and colonise remote areas of the world.
The only negative part of this game is that it is complicated, and the interface is at first hard to grasp. Fortunately, this game has a very dedicated community to answer questions and solve problems.
It may not be pretty, but the inside is packed with deep gameplay that lasts for a long time!
Victoria: Revolutions review
Historical, realistic, addicting. Truly a game well worth the money even with Victoria II being on the horizon.
It's a seriously complex gem of a game. Of course there's war, but there's also industrialization, railway development, social policy, taxation, and much, much more.
All the little things add up to make each campaign just a bit different from the others, even when playing the same country. A true classic.
Victoria: Revolutions review
This expansion have the better think i love in a game, a converter which allows players to continue their game in Hearts of Iron II: Doomsday. If you have the booth game you can play the WW I in "Revolutions" and then the WW II in "Doomsday". In the other hand we have new political and election sistem with new ideas.
The only problem its have this game it that not works correctly in the new version of windows, vista and seven, this is a problem, but this year we will have the Victoria 2... who will be the largest game of colonial conquest period.
Victoria: Revolutions review
I love this game, plain and simple. This is a game for the little imperialist in us all it is a major improvement to the main game introducing capitalist auto-building of railroads and factories if your government is laissez faire or interventionist and if your government is laissez faire it even disables player-building. This really gives an added aspect of making the type of government matter.
There really are enough improvements to make this a must have if you have the original or had an interest but was dissuaded from bying it. There are so many improvement that this plays like a new game. And it even adds the majority of the interwar years for those who feel they need a new ideological conflict thrown into the mix.
Politics !! anarchists, liberals, fascists, socialists ... these are what you will get with victoria R. and all the political stampede that goes with it. It is a must have for Victoria, and resulting game, Victoria R, is basically THE 19th century strategy sim that is on the market right now. Industralization for the win !! Freedom to the people !!
Victoria: Revolutions review
A great add to a great game, if you are waiting for Victoria II... you can't miss this one!
Victoria: Revolutions review
This expansion really round off a good game and improves it immensly, it is really an essential purchase if you are going to get Victoria.
This is the expansion that made Victoria accessible to everyone. Admittedly, Victoria (the original) was very difficult to adapt to as a player who started into Paradox Games with Hearts of Iron II. The economic model was difficult to get used to, and many of the features of the game could be ignored without consequence. But many of the original Victoria's bumps and edges were smoothed out to create what can only be described as an absolutely fantastic game to play.
On its own it is a game that could stand to be updated with a patch or two. The interface is very basic and as an expansion it does add some breadth to the original. Overall I'd say if you love long, tedious gameplay and you have the patience and time to spend, you will come to love this game, singleplayer and multiplayer. The game is never the same...and seeing the impact that you have on history is a blast. Make sure you read the readme though, as some of the nuances of the game you can only really get if you read ahead of time.
Victoria: Revolutions review
Great addon for a great game. Makes Victoria more fun to play. If you got Victoria - make sure to buy this addon. Its not often you get this much content for €5.
Victoria: Revolutions review
This expansion in my opinion is a must have for Victoria fans, it is filled with changes that dramatically improve the gaming experience.
One thing I really appreciate is that laissez-faire economies now properly build factories and railroads on their own, based upon a (theoretical) supply and demand scheme. Remember to keep your taxes and expenses low, your nation will rapidly grow before you!
Victoria: Revolutions review
I enjoyed the original Victoria and was very ambivalent about getting Revolutions because I wasn't sure about no longer having control over which industries were developed, but I found it to be a highly enjoyable game that was effectively a sequel rather than an expansion because it played so differently. I would recommend playing through Victoria a few times first then adding Revolutions, because you are getting 2 games for the price of one and a bit that way.
As a game depicting possible alternative futures of our past, Victoria: Revolutions rank number 1 in my lists - the sheer amount of details and information that you get in the game play is second to only major games like Civilization - and only because they have Civ-pidias.
I first learned of Victoria through an online web-page that had a person showing how the game was played from his chosen country. I was mesmerized at the open-ended game-play of countries in the past centuries. What if Texas remained independent and took over huge swaths of Mexico and the US? What if the Roman Empire still existed? So many alternatives and now a method to play them out!
The system is not the most friendly one or easy to learn, but for a die-hard STG gamer like me, this is perfect. The only thing that could be better is the conversion system that would link this game with the other games of the long line of historical games Paradox Entertainment has created.
Victoria: Revolutions review
A great add-on to one of the best games out there. It adds a number of new features which require the player to develop new strategies. In particular, political parties and their philosophies are much more important in dictating the actions the player can make than in the original. Highly recommended!
Victoria: Revolutions review
Victoria: Revolutions offers a number of clear improvements to the game. While still not perfect this is about as good as it is going to get. While it does not add a whole that shouldn't have been in the game when it was first released, it does finally fix a number of the problems that Victoria had making for a far better playing experiance. This is probably one of the deepest Real Time Strategy Games that is going to be made. Almost certainly the deepest Victorian RTS your likely to see. It's cheap and offers a number of great new features so if you liked Victoria you should buy it right now! Even if you didn't enjoy Victoria, Ricky adds a number of nice new features which make the game easier to play and helps to reduce micromanagment.
The above reviews say it pretty well. Revolutions is more like a heavy-duty patch for the original Victoria, but well worth $10. The developers and members of their forum have been tweaking and improving this game for years, so they deserve the $10! It's also easily moddable, with a text editor. But you have to like the EU/Hearts of Iron genre to enjoy it, I think. Personally, I like it better than EU I-III and Hearts of Iron (with the core patch). HOI II, I can't comment on yet.
Victoria: Revolutions review
Victoria Revolutions improved the economic management of the game to a great degree. The addition of new technologies and timespan allows the player to go up to 1936. Good expansion for any Victorian fan!
Victoria: Revolutions review
Though not a spectacular addon in terms of eye candy or revolutionary concepts, the gameplay improvements over normal Vicky really make this one of the most valuable addons I've ever purchased.
Victoria has been a Playable and brilliant game since patch 1.1. Just go to the Vicky forums and look at the last 4 years of Post's, AAR's, and game analysis.
Never consider your opinion as fact. Its always a mistake to do so. If PAtrick was correct there would be no forum for Vicky the last four years. It would not have recieved the support that it did get. Or none of the uber great mods would have been made for it by the community.
Grain of salt is how fellow man is best dealt with...
Victoria: Revolutions review
Many, many new features that really got me back into Victoria. A total repolishing and finishing touch for a great game.
