Challenging Off-Road Racing

By Fred_DM posted 11th April

This is a racing game similar to a rally racing title. It isn't so much about racing competitors as it is about negotiating difficult terrain. You drive against the clock on a dirt road that keeps throwing natural obstacles at you. You have to take advanced control of your off-road vehicle to get through mud and quicksand, over stones and logs. Switch between 2WD and AWD, lock differentials, switch from Hi gear to low gear, use the winch.

It's a fascinating racing experience not often touched on in games. Off-Road Racing also features the awesome terrain-deforming technology seen in Sega Rally Revo, though not quite as extensively. This game is more challenging than your average racing game in that you can actually get stuck (literally!) on the track.

Be advised that the game - like all recent 1C titles - requires an internet activation using the provided CD-key. You have limited (3) install tokens available, but you can deauthorize your current PC and gain your token back.

Off-Road Drive review

I found myself oddly addicted to this game. There is a lot of detail put into the control of the vehicle including tyre pressure, a winch, 4 wheel drive and differential lock which made this more than just a quick lap around a track as you had to think about how to overcome the obstacle.

Off-Road Drive review

Graphics are GREAT!!! and driving through deep mud "looked" awesome. and that's about it. The game play is very arcady, controls are very wonky wonky at best. The esc menu keeps popping up in the middle of races. I though I mapped my controller's ( xbox pad and tried momo racing wheel) wrong so i set it to default with the keyboard and it does it with that too. There seems to be no point to the career mode, its like a theme park. OK so ya finished this track with in the aloud time so boom here is your next track with your next car all fully set up already. You have no impute at all to what you do in your career. You can some what "tune" your truck, but all the parts come with your new truck so there is nothing to even try to achieve, the new parts don't even make that much of a change to your truck in the first place just more eye candy. You can roll your car over and smash the heck out of it and all you going to risk is wasted time off your race. There are no practice areas where you can hone your skills. You learn while you race. The winch use is a joke, there are parts of some races that force you to use it but you have to be in the exact spot the for the winch to attach itself to the target the game chooses FOR you. you don't even get to try your own idea's. I played other games from 1c like Ural racing 1 and 2 and Hummer 4x4 i feel those where a lot more realistic and challenging. If you looking for a sim off road and not driving through 4 feet of water at 50mph like it was not even there ( I am not kidding) then this is not for you. If you want great eye candy and loud exhaust sounds then this might be for you.
