The game is fun. If you ever played the old 'Return to Castle Wolfenstein' this game will give you a little nostalgia. The graphics are not the bad either, not spectacular, but great. The zombies and weapons are fun to use and the array of different weapons are great too! Also the physics and fun to play with as well and the voice acting isn't that bad minus the main characters. But, this game is not without its flaws. You will find yourself killing that same re spawn soldier in that window over and over and over again. Also you will tire of hearing the Germans shout "I am defending!" since that's usually all they say. This game also makes aiming for the head very critical on harder difficulties since it will take 5+ rifle rounds to down 1 enemy with 15 more enemies to go. But, the one this that will irritate you is your character cheesy one liners after every kill and every event and every cut scene... and after the 100th time of him saying "What the H-ell is going on here?!" and "Remember my naaaame!" you will want to strangle a small child.

Necrovision is an EXCELLENT shooter. It goes back to the 90's style again like Doom, Painkiller, Half-Life, Serious Sam etc. It doesn't take the storyline too seriously, it is all about the shooting.

You should get it if you like aforementioned games. The games levels are huge and fun to play and very varried.

A recommended purchase for those of you who jsut misses the 90's.

Bought it on offer, and I have not regretted it. An addictive game play, beautiful to look for good graphics but also a bit monotonous, perhaps because of the similarity of the monsters or the environment that, however, always makes her beautiful effect. So, given the low price, I recommend the purchase. It will keep you busy for a while ;)

Played for two hours, a frustrating game with a silly storyline. Too many zombie soldiers coming at you all at once, head shots only will keep them down but the mouse control is poor, becomes frustrating. At one point I had a whole area full of zombies, a giant beastie with a axe and a flying ghost god like thing shooting fireballs at me all while looking for a explosive to blow up a doorway. I hit the exit button as it was becoming annoying. Lucky it was only a couple of dollars but in my opinion a couple of dollars wasted.

This is a great game, especially considering the $5 price tag. Like classic shooters (read Doom), Necrovision features nicely themed levels and straight forward run and gun combat. It mixes it up a bit with what the game calls combos, though they play more like finishing moves.

The combos are set off with melee attacks, seeming to be less about button combinations and more about how you hit something (and where). Combos are gruesomely rewarding enough that you will find yourself beating enemies to death with a fully loaded shotgun instead of just pulling the trigger.

The also has unlockable challenge modes and repeatable levels that add some extra hours of game play and reward you with more then achievements. For example, beating the first challenge, Grave Digger, will permanently add the shovel to your inventory in the game.

Bottom line, NecroVison is uncomplicated, bloody fun and I'm surprised to find it at bargain bin prices.

This game is so cool. Yes, the story is a bit silly, but if that's what it takes to justify my piloting a giant robot through legions of zombies in a WWI setting, then by golly that's fine by me. Seriously, everything that happens in this game is awesome. The shooting is good, the glove powers are cool, and the game actually looks pretty nice, though the voice acting is kind of dismal. I also ran into a few glitches and bugs, including one which prevented my progress and forced me to reload a rather old save, costing me maybe a half hour of game play. All in all, however, I liked this game, and if you're a fan of shooters that just want to have fun and don't take themselves too seriously, you will too.

A great, darker-themed fps that is very satisfying. I love the look of the game in many respects, even being an older game. I can appreciate the attention to detail that many may miss on their playthrough. Pick this game up if you love darker fps games, or if you like fps games in general, pick it up. You'll have fun either way, trust me.

A fun little shooter that tries its hand with a demon infested World War One setting and dose it quite well the environments are creepy and pretty, the enemies are ghastly and bloody and the combat is fun once you understand the combo system.

i remember when PC gamer reviewed this game a while back and how they really didnt think much of it. they had something like "duel wielding chain guns does not redeem it" in big bold print. I went into it thinking it would be an awesomely bad game but was surprised with what i found.

the game is a little similar to games like pain killer or will rock but with tighter corridors and more reliance on aiming precision (right clicking looks down the sight in most weapons). head shots are insta-kills on most zombie men. the game also has a bulletstorm like combo system. by kicking some one in the face and shot-gunning their vulnerable body you get energy to fuel your bullet time mode. kinda neat mechanic considering it came out before bulletstorm

the voice acting of the main character isnt terrible and the plot is interesting enough. all in all i had fun. i give it some stars.

This game may not be without its flaws. Horrible voice acting cheesy story and bipolar difficulty can be a bummer at times but at the end of the day this game is still fun. The setting is similar to Wolfenstein just in WW1. It's pretty cool to tear up zombies with trench guns and bolt action rifles. If you don't take it too seriously you can actually kind of enjoy the tongue in cheek tone. Great way to kill some time.

Excellent FPS!

Okay right off the bat, yes the story is a little cheesy, the game is no Halo but in my opinion comes in close to Doom 3 (not just story wise but otherwise as well). The graphics are great in this game but be warned they are not for the faint of heart, you will be getting up close and personal in some cases with some completely gruesome soldier zombies, kinda reminded me of the covers of some old comics I used to see with undead soldiers on the covers (I can't remember what they were called). The gore is a little over the top at times with head shots with a pistol actually beheading targets sometimes, and when these moments occur the game shifts to a slo-mo bullet time so you can see all of the details. There is a survival mode within the game where you can just fight hoards of soldier zombies within various settings and if you hit a certain number of kills before you are killed it unlocks certain weapons and the like, I spent hours just shooting zombies in the survival mode. At any rate this is a good solid shooter that is a lot of fun as long as the gore doesn't put you off it is well worth the price of admission especially if you catch it on sale.

It's not quite Painkiller, but it is an enjoyable mindless romp through World War 1 and beyond. There's quite a bit of content to chew through, as levels can be quite massive. The combo system can be a pain to get used to, though it serves the purpose of stalling the monotony of the game play.

At times the game is pure eye candy. Boss battles are tense and claustrophobic encounters that pace the game very well. While the story is incredibly goofy it is endearing in its own campy way.

All told if you can tolerate pockets of monotony for a fast-paced action-packed experience and don't expect an engaging story, then NecroVision is a good option.

Well...It's definatly a good game.

Then there's the question of how good...It is very enjoyable, and I kept coming back to it, but the fights never seemed to vary all that much, and the difficulty curve was more of a difficulty wave, becoming easy then hard from the start to the finish.

The graphics are gorgeous, very impressive indeed!

Honestly, I can reccomend this game, but with fair warning of what I've mentioned.

The story of the game is like something straight out of a bad horror movie. You are soldier Simon as a part of the British army during World War 1.Suddenly, you become part of the supernatural with demons, vampires and lots of undead.

The story feels slow and lengthy so that you get tired of the document entitled rapidly.

It was bothering me during the game was that same enemy pops up again and again resulting in the first meeting of such one-eyed gigant goes to nothing.

But the game is growning slowly but surely, the longer you play, with lots of diffrent weapons to play with,do you still want to experience the game`s final.

The graphics are alright but at some places in the game,"stuck"Simon between a wall and a object that is deployed in the enviroment which causes frustration.

A typical medium-moderate Fps-game that offer some moments of joy.

If you ever played Return to Castle Wolfenstein and/or Quake you'll immediately notice the similarities: this game is some sort of mixture of them both, only that instead of pitting us against Hitler's dreaded army, it is the Kaiser's finest, as well as the later Kaiser's finest: for in NecroVision you not only fight the living, but may also have to vanquish the dead in your quest to save you and the world from impending doom.

Graphics are alright: most certainly there are better ones out there, but they manage to convey the overall feeling of the game.

Gameplay is good: good ol' kick a*s gameplay... kick, shoot, shovel hit and kick that zombie out of your way - experiment many different combos as you unlock new weapons and stuff.

Sound: serviceable - somewhat lackin' in this department, but at least it's alright.

Overall: 7/10, not a must buy for everyone, but worth checking out if you like Horror Arcade shooters.

This game is very original and fun. The weapons are great and the graphics are ok too. The Heros voice acting could use some work, half the time he's from the south and then New York city. The game is very playable and FPS gamers will love this game, but story driven gamers might want to look else where

This game was quite a surprise. Its like playing an old school FPS where you mow down anything in your path. The controls are responsive and the weapons are pretty cool. You can even dual wield different combinations of weapons and do some combos with gory finishers. The story and setting are also interesting. This is also a game you can pick up and play for short or long sit downs. If you are looking for good action, graphics, gore and cool weapons this is your pick.

Liked:

+ The graphics, especially the possibility to run the game not only in Direct X9 but also in direct X10, though you probably won't be able to see big difference. The animations are ok, and so are special effects.

+ Great arsenal of weapons, plenty to choose from; most of the weapons are fun to use.

+ Fun title for instant fun :)

Hated:

- The story. Not very convincing. Those few good story elements are drowned in (wait for it) a sea of cliches. :)

- The controls. They seem tricky at first, especially when zooming with weapons. Takes a while to get used to it.

- The environments. Not very imaginative. Also, from time to time you may find yourself going in circles.

Summation:

Make sure you check this title especially if you are a fan of the games Serious Sam and/ or Painkiller. NecroVision has a set of merits and flaws, but even as such it can prove to be an valuable boredom killer.

Massively underrated and ignored - Necrovision is one of the best pure shooters I've played in ages. Although it's a little rough around the edges, fans of Doom or Painkiller will find a lot to like here. The action is relentless, and there's quite a bit of content - most of the game's twelve levels will take around 45 minutes to complete, so you won't finish in an afternoon.

Necrovision differs from most shooters in that it emphasizes both ranged and melee combat, especially in the second half of the game. You'll often be wielding two different weapons at once (left click / right click, plus the ability to kick and bludgeon with your gun), and it's fun to combine these attacks in lethal ways - one of my favorites early on was to stab with a bayonet and then kick my foe in the gut. These "combos" all have unique names, and most will reward you with an instant kill.

Although the first few levels are great fun, it's not until level five or six that you really start to see what it's all about. Starting with level six, you'll equip yourself with a new arsenal that changes the way the game is played (for the better).

There was one point in the game where I moved through a level in a way that the game wasn't expecting, which confused the scripting and got me stuck - I had to reload from an earlier save (thankfully, the game autosaves quite liberally). Other than that, I encountered few bugs, though the engine does tend to slow down when rendering particle effects.

Necrovision has a somewhat rough reputation, but don't let that fool you - it's great fun for shooter fans.

Action game from 1C similar in style to a Serious Sam or Painkiller. It's not a tactical shooter, but its fast-paced, frenzied action.

It's not the best game out there, but can be a good change of pace for people who go play through many FPS. And at it's low price it is good value.

NecroVision review

By Navagon posted 22nd Apr 2010

Necrovision is a game that keeps getting better the further you get into it. What starts out as a fairly conventional WW1 FPS with obvious Painkiller influences expands and grows into a game that actually has something of a plot line to it. Not to mention a large array of weapons and attack combos. Oh and the ability to raise those you've slain to fight by your side. That too. The game takes place across 12 large, well designed maps that can take anywhere between 30 – 50 minutes each to complete. Most lean towards the latter. So you definitely get your money's worth. That's further bolstered by the number of secrets and challenge rooms throughout the game. On the negative side: there are near constant character voice overs. Far from being a silent protagonist, the dude doesn't shut up. Which wouldn't be so bad if the voice acting was a bit better. It's not terrible at least. Also, this game is a slow starter. This doesn't really start showing its true potential until you're more than halfway through. All in all: worth the time and money, but don't expect a masterpiece.

a WW1-themed FPS from creators of Painkiller, using PAIN engine that was used in PK. It's filled with surprises with story, weapons and gameplay itself. as for gameplay, you may want to kill things in stylish ways(throwing shovels, rifle butt stab to death, direct hit with fireball, etc) to earn combo, making your Fury level increase and give you some bonus. Graphic is awesome besides wearing gas mask obscures the vision too much. Overall, a must buy for people who likes FPS that has either of : Horror, Melee, Complex and cool moves, WW1 and Actions.

NecroVision is a horror genre first person shooter. It's linage can be traced back to the Painkiller series and there are some similarities. Unlike Painkiller, NecroVision has more of a story that is loosely tied in with the First World War. Things quickly go awry however as the Germans have been experimenting with reanimating the dead and other such affronts to humanity. The game spirals into a macabre fantasy world as your character tries to come to grips with this breach from reality. Speaking of your character, it may take awhile to get used to his innocent country bumpkin/farm boy personality. He says some of the corniest things which is a bit at odds with the overall evil atmosphere. At first it bugged me but I got used to it and then amused by it. In the end I wouldn't have it any other way.

The story unfolds in chapters and much of the gist is delivered by NPC's. Overall the voice acting isn't bad, and there is a lot of it as some characters have a lot to say. After completing a chapter you are given the opportunity to play a separate challenge level. Successfully completing the challenge adds a piece of equipment to your permanent inventory. Most of what you get can also be scrounged from the battlefield, but beating the challenge makes them available at the start of each level. It was my experience that these challenges where quite difficult, usually involving killing many enemies in a very short time with limited means. I ended up ignoring them but I can see how some would be determined to beat them all.

The developers have done a good job creating a unique atmosphere, caught somewhere between actual history and the twilight zone. The game has a dreamy, surreal quality and at times it is quite humorous. The levels are fairly linear, but there is some room to roam about the brooding, doomsday tinged maps. Each level is peppered with assorted enemies that do a fair job of making your life difficult. They also tend to come to grips at close quarters, so being able to kick them in the chest and then drive a bayonet home comes in pretty handy. In fact, this sort of thing is one of the signature aspects of the game. NecroVision is one of the few FPS games that lay emphasis on melee combat. By executing combo attacks like the one above you build up your fury level which can then be unleashed with devastating effect. There are many combo possibilities but most are geared toward close combat so there is incentive to mix it up face to face. The concept is done well and makes for some interesting game play.

The fury itself isn't really anything new, time slows down while you move faster and you deliver amplified damage to enemies who are temporarily handicapped by the time vacuum. It's effects are fleeting but no less satisfying. You can also increase your fury level as the game progresses, both through your actions and by finding artifacts. Increased fury levels give you even greater damage potential and a bit more e

Old school FPS action in a under used, WW1 meets Lovecraft setting. Thoroughly recommended for shooter fans. It is somewhat formulaic in terms of level design, right down to the end of level bosses. The combat however is certainly interesting enough to make up for it, with WW1 era weapons and useful melee abilities (the ability to decapitate your foes with a trench shovel is probably enough to sell the game to some). The AI is fairly competent, with human opponents making good use of cover and flanking to try to take you down.

Despite ostensibly being a horror game it doesn't take itself too seriously; while you are fighting the living dead and worse at the same time you're constantly encouraged towards combo kills and presented with some tongue in cheek finishing moves. At every stage the game encourages you to have fun, unlike some of the more pretentious shooters of recent years.

NecroVision review

By frostcircus posted 27th Jun 2009

Underappreciated. It has its rough edges (bugs, varying performance, nonsense story), but none of them get in the way of this being an amazingly fun shooter that's unlike anything else out there.

The shortest way to explain the game is to say that it's pretty much every single FPS from the past ten years crammed into one game. This is probably the reason it hasn't found an audience, since oldschool FPS gamers are likely to find it too complex (I did), and modern gamers are likely to find it too oldschool. It's definitely stuck in the middle.

Which is a shame, because for those willing to persevere with its quirks, the rewards are great. The basic shooting action is very fun, and the game constantly surprises the player with new ideas and gameplay styles and great level design.

For those wanting to learn more about the game, a fellow named BloodBuster has put together a very informative website (google it). While parts of it read as overly defensive, it's hard to blame the guy when you see the unfairly negative buzz that's surrounded this game.
