GAME SUMMARY

Nuclear Dawn

Rating: 4.3 (99 votes cast)

Nuclear Dawn is the first game to offer a full FPS and RTS experience, within a single gameplay model, without crippling or diluting either side of the game.

Play as a soldier in a war-torn post-apocalyptic landscape, modelled on modern cities, and take the fight to your enemies as armoured, assault or stealth infantry, using various weapons, and twelve distinct load-outs to accomplish your objectives. The first person shooter action in Nuclear Dawn is hard, fast and unforgiving, with weapons that rely on skill and tactics more than on twitch reflexes and map memorization.

Then, take Nuclear Dawn above the action, and play as the commander. Organize your fellow players in squads, and assign them to tactical objectives. Plan the resource routes for your army, and production of your structures for forward deployment. Exploit the terrain and resource point locations to block your enemies’ tactical advance, and crush their plans in an iron fist. Research and implement new technology to give your soldiers the edge on the battlefield, and set up forward bases to lead the assault on your enemies, with a full complement of defensive and offensive structures to choose from and upgrade, to build your perfect fortress.

  • Two distinct factions: the Empire and the Consortium
  • Four playable classes, each with three sub-class loadouts, plus the commander role
  • Over a dozen weapons across the various classes, and factions
  • Each faction has a completely separate base-building paradigm, with different workflows and tech trees
  • Upgrade weapons, buildings and classes with powerful Golden Age blueprints
  • Build Doomsday weapons with pre-war technology that will give you the deadliest edge in battle
  • Travel across the largest, most detailed maps built in Source multiplayer to date.

Nuclear Dawn is one of the best team-based first-person shooter because You NEED to work with your teammates to defeat the opposing team!

If you don't feel like spending in some time for the learning process, and if you are not a team player, then this game is not your cup of tea.

This game represent a great effort from an indie developer, the graphics are good enough, the gameplay is ok, the con is that is a MP only game and is not that popular right now but you will find enough people to play with, if you want to support a good indie dev, get this game.

Great game with the right people.

Having a noob commander can be a headache but don't let that stop you from leveling up and unlocking 8 or more abilities. Plenty of servers and players with an emphasis on team-play. An experience not to be missed by source and FPS/RTS fans alike.

To define it as a genre would be an RTS-FPS-tower defense game. Both of the teams has a commander who builds turrets and shizz all over the map, and tries to help his team advance to the enemy base, while rest of his team goes around first person shooting.

Fast Action

Nuclear Dawn is a refreshing break from the mindless shooter style perpetuated by Call of Duty or the likes, but still offers tons of adrenalin fueled action. It has a mix of cerebral decision making with a emphasis on skilled shooting and fighting which creates a really stellar experience.

While I am not a huge fan of FPS, I fell in love with Nuclear Dawn for two main reasons: the powerful class system and the strategic emphasis. The whole game is dependent upon the success of the commander--infantry needs to be supported with structures to facilitate expansion and therefore success. While this can be frustrating when your team is losing and your commander is a fool, the experience is unrivaled. The class system is also very satisfying, accommodating all styles of play. Foot soldiers can coexist with building-wreckers and stealth assassins. The RTS aspect is also quite solid, though a bit too fast-paced for my tastes.

Finally some got the idea of combining a 1st person shooter with a RTS right. Great visials, and the gameplay is tons of fun. The only single player available is the training missions though, I hate to see the demise of single player campaigns. This is a Steam play game, so you will need to have a Steam account to play, using your key to activate it on steam. The download auto launches Steam to install.

Incredibly Satisfying Shooter

This team-centric shooter is a must-have for anyone who enjoys games like the Battlefield series. This game is entirely infantry FPS with a RTS slant (think Savage, but better). Teamwork is necessary for a win in this game.

When I first saw the title, I thought "What? Another post-apocalyptic brainless shooter?" But when I researched it online, it became clear that this was something a bit more. Think of Team Fortress without all the things that makes it complicated. This one feels more real due to the atmosphere and even the worst gun can kill in a few well-placed bullets. What is more, there is a commander who plays a RTS game while you play FPS! He/she'll give you orders, build turrets for defenses, supply points for heal and ammo, and spawn points. the commander even researches some kits that can be used in game. I am extremely happy that I bought this for the best price ever on Gamersgate. Even you do use Steam to play it, I got it cheaper on GG. Thank you Gamersgate. Hey you! Go and buy this game, it's awesome.

Really spectacular game! RTS and FPS combined in single game? That's pretty amazing. The company made a really good job. I suggest everyone with interest in FPS and/or RTS to play this game. They will not regret it.

Love child of BF2142 & Natural Selection

By greydmiyu posted 18th October 2011

Take BF2142's infantry only mode, merge it with the human-side mechanics of Natural Selection and you have the perfect description of Nuclear Dawn. A good commander and teamwork, including a decent mix of classes, matter. Facing a foe who has all three and missing any one is a sure recipe for failure. Many people blame the commander but, really, an awesome commander with a group of people who can't settle on a decent mix of classes will still lose to a mediocre commander with a team that's meshing well.

The gunplay is a bit wobbly for a source engine game. The grenade mechanics & rocket are very choppy compared to something like TF2 or MNC. It's serviceable, just not very tight.

The game overall works. There are a few annoying things that the devs should clear up in time. The exceptional usefulness of EMP grenades, getting stuck in buildings, no squad-based comms and the pistol beating almost every other weapon at range outside sniper rifles.
