The Nations Gold

Rating: 3.1 (41 votes cast)

"Great body...but where's his tan?" said the Amazon when looking at a handsome Pimmon.

Pimmons, Amazons and Sajikis is out to conquer the hearts of players all over again. Decide whether your tribe will conquer all, or if you prefer, peacefully unite all existing nations under your benevolent leadership. The Nations, the official follow-up to the immensely successful Alien Nations game, offers a plethora of brand-new improvements, innovative ideas and amazing graphics for. You will now be able to establish trade, support research and even find diplomatic solutions to threatening conflicts.

The Nations - Gold Edition now with 22 new Missions and an Editor!

  • The Nations allows the player to complete goals using different strategies: Whilst warriors will try to conquer the world in a more conventional destructive manner, not all players will wish to follow this path.
  • For this reason, due to public demand, we have included a new option that allows peaceful players to follow a less violent approach in their mission to unite all tribes and nations.
  • What tribes", you ask? This important gameplay innovation adds totally new strategic aspects to the game. Each nation is now made up of several different tribes. The player takes control over one of the tribes and must satisfy this particular tribe's needs and wishes. Once this has been accomplished, members of other tribes, enticed by the player's leadership, will wish to join the player's tribe. Especially enjoyable consequences may occur when an entire tribe decides to give the player total control!
  • An intelligent AI system has been implemented allowing your subjects to think: Once the player has decided that wood needs to be chopped, lumberjacks will immediately follow the player's wish... unless, of course, they are taking a break, sleeping or just unhappy with their living conditions.
  • Members of the tribe now build houses on their own. This will only happen if several conditions are met; e.g. there is enough room; living conditions are acceptable; and the prospective building spot is not too close to a military base.
  • Each creature has his or her own habits and patterns of behavior.
  • Day and night cycles are included
  • Realistic population growth (creatures give birth!)
  • Greater differences between the nations. Each group now has its own special skills.
  • Significantly improved, incredibly detailed graphics.
  • Even more difficult missions for the player to complete

The Nations Gold review

The game lacks any introduction or tutorial type missions. The first mission i played was part of the amazon campaign, stuck on some tiny island with very limited resources. There was no room for error, building one building or hiring a researcher too early led to a restart of the level, then another.. The game experience just went downhill from there. At least a short tutorial would have helped.

There is a lot of depth to the city building side of the game, sadly its hard to get to.

I find this a fun and entertaining game thought it lacks the strategic depth of more complex (and expensive) games. I think it is primarily an economic/resource gathering game, and not a war game so keep that in mind.

The game is a bit buggy, but I haven't had any crashes. For me: the movies won't play, the game goes to a black screen for a long time when loading or exiting a game (it does continue eventually), and in the game my resources sometimes aren't delivered to construction sites properly.

Overall, I find this a fun game worth the low price, but not much more.

This game is enjoyable but has some serious drawbacks. Although there are 3 "nations" they are all basically the same in terms of gameplay. In the campaigns every mission ultimately plays out the same way despite having different objectives as every city built seems to unfold in more or less the same way (as certain buildings are required to produce materials for newer better buildings or to keep citizens happy as the game goes on).

Combat isn't exciting, and is, if anything frustrating as units are fairly slow to respond to orders.

Also population growth is very exponential--almost too slow at first before progressing to unmanageably fast turning large cities into timebombs about to implode with unhappiness and crime.

But I nonetheless find the game fun for the price, the graphics, while not mindblowing have a certain appeal and the gameplay, though repetitive, is somehow enjoyable.

this game crashed my computer to the "blue screen of death" repeatedly. The game looks like it might be awesome, but be warned. Their help desk and support is fantastic so I'm sure they'll try to fix the problem, but until then, watch out.
