You've heard all the reviews and had to get this game to really experience it. Its amazing. Seriously - and I thought Company of Heroes ended the WW2 genre, and this comes along. A bit more on the micromanagement but still playable and fun! In fact, you start caring for your troops because of this micromanagement and you really have to use a lot of brain power to win the game. Great use of inventory and the environment is destructable thus adding more strategic elements in the game. Gameplay is topnotch!

This is possibly one of the best WW2 RTS games on the market. IT features very realistic statistics on all the weapons and vehicles, making the fighting realistic. Thus, a Sherman should not expect to take on a tiger frontally. This game also features tons of content. Content ranges from early war vehicles to experimental late war tanks. The single player campaign provides varying mission styles, from stealth to all out assault/defence missions. And with the option to play the whole campaign with up to 3 friends, the campaign remains difficult and has a high replay value. The online player versus player game play is a blast. A good player can kill a late war vehicle with lesser technologies using skill. The gameplay is very much skill based, making the game very difficult at times. There are tons of mods for this game as well, with added SP missions and extra content. Definitely worth buying.

An interesting game, exceptional online experience which really throws the player in the depths of battlefield tactics and armor warfare like no other game, gives a fancy feeling of commanding and controlling, in the multiplayer experience, it is one of the best RTS's out there.

The problem in the game is the campaign, in my opinion the campaign is boring somehow and too linear, story doesn't exist, and there is nothing really to fight for, Voice acting is HORRIBLE, music is not very nice.

Last thing is, if you are looking for a solid online multiplayer tactical/strategic game with direct full control on units, then this is the Right game for you

Men of War is a very, very gripping game.

It's attention to detail is astonishing. The level of destruction is huge, almost everything can be destroyed. The physics engine performs admirably. There are occasional weird vehicle 'flights' when blowing up, but the entire thing is very in depth.

For example, you can fire at a wall with High Explosive rounds, and the thing will crumble. But fire at it with Armour Piercing rounds, chances are high the wall will remain standing and the round simply went through to hit whatever was hiding behind it.

Sometimes you'll see a truck get hit by AP, and within that same second you'll see a soldier die that was running behind the truck because the round went through the truck and still hit the soldier.

What's even more impressive is that sometimes tank turrets will be blown off and land somewhere, and these objects can then be used by the soldiers as cover! This works for a whole lot of things, assuring you there is always some form of cover to use.

And you'll need it, because combat is harsh. You need to be alert at all times, because losing sight of the battlefield for too long will assure you an ass-whipping. The enemy AI is relentless, and patience and good use of tactics is needed to flush them out.

Many was the time i stood before a defensive stronghold wondering how in God's name i was supposed to take and hold it. And after spending a great amount of time i succeeded in taking my objectives.

I was weeping tears of joy.

The graphics are nice and the physics are very impressive, but to me the sound design is what holds this game back a bit. Completely zoomed in there is no problem, but when zoomed out the battle is hardly audible. And you NEED to be zoomed out most of the time to keep in control of the situation.

This is the only reason i'm giving this game 4 out of 5 stars, because everything else is utterly amazing. I've played for hours and i'm still finding out about new things or encountering new interesting situations.

That said, this is not a game for the weak. It will crush you.

I first played Soldiers of War back when it was released but this is a major jump up.

As an old and avid Close Combat series fanatic this is the closest I've found so far.

This is a must buy for all who like:

* RTS - but without resources

* Close Combat series

* Complete mayhem with a entertaining physics engine

* Unique experience each time you reload your save (you'll do this often)

* Hard opposition

Downside:

* Frustrating AI at times

* Soldiers/vehicles seem to behave odd

* Difficult to mouse click on items occasionally

* Vague mission instructions

* Below average voice acting

But you won't be sorry if you buy it.

the series that started it all,the unique aspect of this game as playing not only as the commander but also as the individual soldier breaks the mold separating it from the rest of the strategy games, the game poses challenge forcing the player to focus on outwitting their opponents instead of straight out bum rushing them, while the voice acting is....sub-par to say the least it's still an enjoyable game all around for any strategy nut.

MoW is computer Wargaming at its best with a level of realism so unforgiving that it makes me cringe. Often is the case where you’ll leave your men for a few seconds and come back to find them dead. Anyone who enjoys micro managing or is good at it will find this game a breeze but for the casual gamers out there don’t even attempt to touch MoW because you’ll be running back to COH within one mission. For all its flaws the game is appealing and entertaining if you’re into this kind of genre of games. The game is stressful to say the least and the single player is on the levels of old Command and Conquer games with its cheesy cinematics and ruthless difficulty, but the doesn’t stop it from having a sort of nostalgic charm to people who like me played the crap out of their Close Combat games (If you don’t know what those are you can skip this part.). The game feels like it was the sequel to the series with its attention to detail and complete ruthlessness with your armor. You have to micro-manage your troops and keep close taps on them or else you will walk them into an ambush. The great part is that the AI doesn’t suck as bad as it did in the Close Combat games, so anyone who enjoyed the Close Combat series should seriously give this game a try. The multiplayer is where this game really shines, its deployment system is ludicrously simple though I would suggest you have a pretty steadfast knowledge of WW2 vehicles or else it will take you some time to figure out what to deploy which could cost you. The game modes are extremely reminiscent of COH except everything is much harder to assault as your units can easily get trounced by well set up defenses. Unlike in COH the size of the tank doesn’t mean either results or that it will survive for more than a few seconds, so it’s easy to get annoyed.…

There are lots of game about WWII has been published. Some are RTS and some are FPS. “Men of war” ingeniously blends RTS and FPS. In the tactical mode, it is similar to the other RTS games that you can give order to each of your squad (or unit). If you like to play FPS game, you may choose one of your units to directly control it. It is especially interesting to directly control a sniper. You may use the middle mouse wheel to zoom in the target and aim at his head (or chest) and kill him by a single shot. This way, you can silently kill your enemy one by one. It is also interesting to play a mission with various units in a large battlefield, e.g. the battle of Moscow and Sevastopol. You will feel exciting to see so many units fight fiercely in the battlefield. The graphics and sound effect are good. You may zoom in to see the details of a unit. The drawback of this game is that some missions are so difficult that many micro-management and save-load are needed and the tank is so vulnerable that its turret is very easy to be damaged, even the king tiger can be easily damaged by an infantry.

One of the finest RTS combat sims I've played. The scale is large, but not overwhelming. The campaign missions are rich and diverse, with a compelling mix of assault-the-position type missions and defensive missions. I've played this game through more than twice on different difficulty levels and really enjoyed the challenge both times. 5 stars for Men of War, 5 stars for the expansion.

Men of War is surely one of the best RTS games in the last decade. It gives you everything what you could possibly require from a RTS game: You can deploy units, micromanage their properties and interactions, dig in the trences and make a great defensive line, assault the fortified enemy in the cities or on vast battlefields, defend key points from enemy invasion, perform various tactics and even DRIVE vehicles with your WASD controls!

Moreover, it's not just DRIVING but FIGHTING with directly controlling your tank which has different armour values and sophisticated trajectory when shooting a shell.

Men of War introduces a whole new concept of Real-time Strategy, and it surely makes a lot of new fans every day. The game itself is a lot of fun, with a good storyline, but with an even better multiplayer experience, where you can battle on huge 8v8 maps, or go coop with your friends in thrilling and HARD missions across the WW2 battlefields.

I warmly recommend this game to any WW2 RTS fan, but I also recommend it to any other player who likes micromanagement in the battlefield inferno.

Men of War review

By Personman123 posted 7th Aug 2011

I really enjoyed this game but it takes a lot of patience. This isn't a regular WW2 real-time strategy game, it required a lot more careful planning and micro-managing of troops and vehicles. Each soldier's equipment can be personalized, from ammunition to weapon and even helmet. Vehicles can use multiple types of shells and the crew can be customized, changing the effectiveness of the vehicle.

The main draw to this game is "direct control" giving you the ability to control an infantry man, field weapon, or vehicle as if it was a third person shooter. This allows a multitude of new strategies.

The only bad thing about this game is the atrocious AI. It has trouble taking care of itself and troops left alone can be taken care of somewhat easily but an attentive opponent using good tactics and direct control.

Tired of boring RTS games that degenerate into nothing more than a clickfest? You'll probably enjoy Men of War. In a typical RTS, you can win, even against an entrenched enemy force, by just sending hordes upon hordes upon hordes of units at the enemy. In Men of War, however, this is not so. One machinegunner and boom, your entire army's toast. Overall, Men of War might more accurately be called a Real Time Tactics game; however you call it, though, it's still a great game. The only thing I really have negative to say about it is the inventory management, which can be a bit of a chore at times. 4.5 stars, rounding up to 5, for this game.

Amazing game right from the start, high-paced action and a pretty good campaign. As there is no singleplayer the multiplayer is where this game shines in 1vs1, 2vs2 and even 4v4 matches. The only down fall I would say is the voice acting in the campaign but ofcourse that doesn't effect the core game itself.

Men of War is a very good real time strategy game. The unique thing about men of war is taking direct control of individual units. There is lots of details in recreating tanks so that when shooting a tank you need to take into consideration of thickness of the armour and many of other tings.

The campaign is really difficult but still rewarding and there is good multiplayer.

The worst thing about Men of War is the massive amount of detail and things to consider for each unit. It is easy to get bogged down in this detail to much, instead of the strategy of completing objectives. An example of the over the top detail is each unit having an inventory which must contain the correct ammo for your gun. If you run out of ammo you have to find more ammo of that type. Or if you want to repair a tank you need a repair kit which your tank may or may not have. The game also has some of the most laughable voice acting I have heard.

Overall this is a very good game.

Aside from the very typical time period used in video games (which put me off for a while), this game stands alone in its quality. This truly was a refreshing change from the more 'rock-paper-scissors' based rts's I've played over the last few years. The infantry combat especially I enjoyed, in which tactics do play a big factor and dislodging an enemy from a firm position requires more than charging head first with 15-50 soldiers (or at least most of the time.)

However, the game does have it's problems, however few. The is by far the occasional 'luck' streaks you tend to notice enemies have, as well as yourself. Tanks with 150+ front armor can succumb to a single shot from a puma. Another example would be the opposite, when tanks (though this is much rarer) are seemingly indestructible, particularly the 'turtle tank'. I had a jadgtiger and a lesser tank firing on it's rear and side armor with no outcome. In all honesty however, this is hardly worth mentioning, it can end up costing you the match, but happens so rarely that there is really nothing to worry about.

The path finding can occasionally be troublesome, but being able to directly control your units fixes

this quite easily.

The campaign is nothing special, no single mission or campaign stood out to me. But that is not where this game stands on it's feet. The multi-player in this game is fantastic, however the wait times vary, and the game lengths are usually perfect. The factions online are much more balanced than I had originally thought they would be (German tanks).

I think that these reviews are rather pointless when it all comes down to it; this is a game any WW2 RTS fan should play at least once. Definitely worth picking up.

Overall this game is an easy 85%.

Very difficult and very rewarding. I love that you can take over enemy vehicles and artillery. Small details like having snipers hide in trees really make the game shine for me. If you care to, you can manage each soldier's inventory. Voice acting is predictably terrible, but the gameplay itself carries the game above this potential pitfall. Some of the missions will really have you on the edge of your seat to complete. This is not your standard reskinning of command and conquer with WWII, enemies will intelligently flank you, and murder you within seconds if you are not prepared. Another wonderful thing is that the soldiers have a sense of self preservation, and will automatically lay down supressive fire, run for cover when shot at, etc.

Give it a go, I do recommend.

Men of War review

By MTK posted 6th Jan 2011

As far as i know there is no wwii rts that comes close to Men of War in terms of realism (company of heroes does not). Unfortunately that comes with a somewhat steep learning curve and some tediousness in managing your squads (you can even pick up fallen soldiers' hats).

Do not mistake this game for standard rts fare, this is more of a rtt (real time tactics) with no resource collection or base building and an emphasis on small scale fighting.

There is a direct control feature that allows you to control units manually (move/fire) which is especially fun when using tanks.

The voice acting (english) is atrocious, laughably so, but the gameplay more than makes up for it.

Check rockpapershotgun.com for reasonable opinions (watch out for weird potentially contagious hat fetishes however).

There are stand-alone expansion packs out or out soon to look at for more tactical goodness.

Great game. I'm a big fan of the multiplayer part. You can find games easily and most games take up to 20 minutes to 1 hour which is IMO the perfect time for a game.

What you usually do in the multiplayer is either take a couple of flags on the map with your team (Battle Zones) or just fight on the map and destroy as much enemies as possible (Combat).

You buy units by having a certain amount of points which you receive automatically after a certain period. I can tell you, there is a lot to buy and you can play with 5 factions (USA,GER,JAP,USSR,GB).

The singleplayer I have forgotten about as it has been a very long time ago since I played it.

Hidden gem!

I've always been a fan of WW2 strategy games but somehow this one slipped by unnoticed. When I bought it I didn't really have any expectations, but I was surprised how deep and well made this game is. It's (as far as I can see) historically accurate, which is very important to me and I also like that it lets you play many different sides of the conflict in several well made single player campaigns (from the epic battles on the eastern front, to north Africa, to Germany). The only bad thing is perhaps the voice acting, but that's also going to give you a couple of good laughs.

Anyway, if you liked the Close Combat-series, you're going to love this!

Men of War is probably one of the best real time strategy games of the last years. The game mechanics have been optimised since its predecessor Faces of War and the game is almost bug-free.

The setting of the storyline are quite original and there isn't the usual D-Day landing like in most of the games of this kind.

Unlike other games, moreover, you can equip the soldiers with weapons found on the enemy and repair and use enemy vehicles.

The multiplayer is very enjoyable too and you can choose between a wide range of american, british, german and soviet vehicles and infantry squads.

Men of war is a great game, the scenario is very interactive, there are lots of explosions and you have to think before doing a movement, for example instead of taking lots of infantry in a Mg you can flank it with 1 soldier and trow a gbrenade.Buy the game!

Men of War review

By tyard posted 14th Oct 2010

Men of War is an unmatched game for those who like games-specifically RTS/RTT-that are on the more realistic end. Instead of the standard damage system, where certain weapons/units have a set damage/armor, MoW gives tanks armor ratings-which vary along the vehicle, and by distance, and from sloping. For example, a Sherman can shoot a King Tiger 50 times and not do a thing, however another Sherman can roll in on the Tiger's flank and deliver one solid round into the engine area, destroying the tank.

Infantry does have a sort of damage system, however it is entirely based on a per-man basis (and you can command men individually, or combine them into a squad for a while). Men will die instantly if caught in an explosion, or lit on fire, and will take damage from distant explosions, bu the main factor-small arms-play in that different body areas have different damage from a small damage bar. As well, many weapons will kill instantly up close and in the head.

Now, even if the game itself wasn't enough, there is a great community that produces plenty of excellent mods to infinitely extend the game's life and fun. A great example is DCG, which adds a sort of skirmish mode.

There are drawbacks of course. There are many small bugs and glitches and such that can be a bother every once and a while-however a handful tend to get fixed with new games and patches. Also, if you like an offline skirmish mode, you will have to wait for the upcoming Assault Squad expansion (standalone), or use the DCG mod mentioned above.

Men of War review

Men of War (along with its predecessor) introduced the concept of inventory management in a genre where it did not exist (except for, perhaps, some special "elite" units in some games). This adds a whole new tactical layer. We were used to having units with weapons "glued" on them, and a unit born i.e. as rifleman would die as rifleman. Now you can change weapons and collect items from ground. And it applies also to vehicles and cannons! Sure, you can use your rocket launcher and obliterate that obnoxious armored transport from a safe position, but you can also risk a bit and attempt to capture it!

A good (although not perfect) AI will also prevent unnecessary losses: if threatened by enemy fire your units, if not under your direct control, will automatically duck and attempt to reach some cover. Enemies, when numerically superior, will attempt to outflank you while holding you down with suppression fire and grenades.

Vehicles have various "sections" that can receive either reparable or irreparable damage. That also means that, while its tracks might be completely destroyed and the vehicle immobilized, you could still operate its turret (or the opposite, though a turretless tank might be a bit less useful, it can still ram into enemy barricades).

Graphics are very good (at least for a RTS), and the sound is, well, exactly what you expect to hear in a battlefield (explosions, explosions, people screaming, and more explosions).

In a few words: try it, it's well worth its price!

It has all what Faces of war had and much, much more. Improved interface and AI, slightly improved graphics, more entertaining and challenging missions.

Men of War is a game that throws you into the shoes of a commander of armed forces ranging from Germans, Americans, and Russians in the Campaign as well as Japanese and British (provided you patch it up) in Multiplayer.

The graphics aren't the super-graphics you see in most games today, but they still give you some great detail. Almost fully destructible environments provide a great experience, as well as the ability to take full control of single units for your own purposes.

While some units can be overpowered (ie. a few heavy ones), the game is still very enjoyable for players from all around. The campaign is rather difficult on your own though, so it's recommended that you team up with some friends using the co-op multiplayer to get the hang of things.

All in all, this game is a great buy for those that love strategy games.

A really enjoyable game that, for me personally, marks a definite improvement over the other games in the series. This is more due to the emphasis on large-scale combat that can see you controlling lots of troops though. So, people who prefer the smaller scale stuff like in Commandos and Soldier's: Heroes of World War 2, you may want to give this a miss. However, that doesn't mean there aren't missions that don't see you controlling a small squad.

Honestly though, if you don't mind the large scale combat, I can't think of better war games that are RTS' and it features no base building. Plus, it has great physics and destructible terrain that can be destroyed tactically. Tanks etc. also have armor thickness.

One of the best WW2 real time strategy games out there with "realistic" ballistics, armour penetrations, terrain and object destruction and of course last but not least, direct control.

The first time you destroy an enemy tank by firing an armour piercing shell through a house, you will be in the clouds for at least the next 10 minutes.

The single player campaign will hold your interest for quite a while since it is pretty difficult, but very enjoyable when you do manage to complete a mission.

The multi player is also where the game shines as long as everyone can run the game fine on their computers. Fighting for objectives vs real people will make you sweat. If you prefer not to perspire, the entire campaign can be played in coop.

There are no real down sides to this game, apart from the hilarious voice acting but that is in the end also a part of the charm of the game.

Fully recommended.

I've played a lot of RTS like this. This is one of the best I've ever played. It takes a little bit of getting used to, but once you play a few hours you're hooked and it gets easier to play.

It has a great community support forum for when you get stuck. Lots of community modded parts for the game from new weapons to complete games.

This game blends simulation/realism with great, fast paced action and smooth graphics. With such features as shell trajectories, armour penetration and individual infantry inventories, this game is sure to please.

Also, taking direct control of vehicles is very intuitive! Great for precisely placing artillery pieces. And with the right level of manual/automated controls. You control the tank with the arrow keys, and the turret with the mouse. You left click to fire your cannon (You can change ammo types, too!), or right click to cycle to your machine-gun. When you're using your cannon, the AI will man the machine gun and gun down enemies that are in range while you're aiming the cannon - and vice versa.

The voice-acting is downright terrible - but hilariously so. Unit management can be a bit hectic at times, and the controls take a bit of getting used to. Apart from that, the game has some pretty impressive graphics - dynamic lighting, soft dynamic shadows. Destructible buildings and terrain. Enemy AI is good too - with no suicidal rushes. They will not hesitate to grenade your covered troops - which killed half my squad on many occasions!

Buy it! Now !

One of the more complex or complicated RTS out there. When an RTS not only gives your troops various stances, units with finite ammo, tanks that can run out of fuel and makes you loot corpses for ammo and lets your units swap guns, you know there is a lot to this game.

For some this depth will be great, but for others the amount of management in the game can be overwhelming.

There is no direct base building in the game, however if you're troops get killed off a few new ones may spawn near your frontlines to keep the mission going.

Careful tactics and positioning need to be used in this game as approaching a machinegun emplacement from the front will result in your men killed.

Multiplayer is still vibrant in this game and it's still possible to find a game online.

Overall, if you like more complex RTS games this one is good to pick-up.

Men of War is probably my favorite tactical RTS to date. It is highly realistic and detailed, something which most RTSes lack. One example is every unit having it's own inventory. Also, armor is penetration based damage rather than just hitpoints. This is brilliant because now you actually have to act strategically and hit the target where it is weak with the right kind of round, rather than just bum rushing and hoping to wear it down. You also have to deal with fuel supplys on vehicles, meaning that you have to be careful how you use them so you don't run out of gas.

Also, the environment is fully interactive. In some missions it benefits you to shoot out lights by going in to manual control of a unit and just shooting out the lights. This aids in stealth and makes it overall much more immersive. Most if not all buildings are destructible as well. This makes for some interesting gameplay involving changing the landscape of the battlefield.

If there is one weak point, it has to be the voice overs. The voice overs sound completely crappy in the campaign. This is a problem, but it really is minor compared to how well the game does everything else.

Overall, I highly recommend this game for anyone who wants a serious RTS. Just remember that this is not going to be as simple as CoH or similar games, and requires a lot more thought and strategy.

This is one of my favorite rts games ever made. The campaigns are long and extensive, though, they can be brutally hard at times. I really appreciated how many units they were able to cram in one map, especially considering how much detail them: taking cover and having individual inventories for each unit. The game also shines in the multiplayer department with an approach similar to world in conflict where you call in your units without basebuilding. Online matches can be up to 8v8 which is quite large by industry standards, and there are a number of modes including coop which the entire sp campaign can be played in. The graphics scale well on lower end systems but are nothing groundbreaking on higher end machines. The game sounds good but the voice acting is aweful, though, it's easy to get past that. I also appreciate the moddability of the game, as there are many mods and missions out there for download. Ultimately, the refreshing gameplay and longevity make for a fantastic game: one I can easily recommend.

Amazing game and very realistic. Your the General and guide your army to victory or toward your objective. With astonishing realistic graphic and control. The firepower is amazing you can blow up and destroy almost anything on the map. It is very nice game I highly recommend for all type of players. You will really enjoy playing it.

Men of War is for gamers who have patience with their games.

This game pushes the gamer to both explore and discover the posiblities of the different weapons as well as units. To be fair, they do tell you how to move and the very simplistic stuff, but its up to you to realize the potential of a Tiger tank.

In terms of graphics, this game looks good, but takes too many system resources in my opinion. It can look better and still take the same resources it does. I am running an E8400 Dual Core, 4GB ddr2 ram and a GTX 240 and get some lag with full bloom. Then again, the high bloom makes you sleepy.

As for gameplay, it is very similar to Company of Heroes but it has tons of new features including the direct control which allows you to aim the weapons of your units.

Contextually, this game is very historically accurate and the units actually speak their native languages, which is always a very satisfying factor in any game. The gritty feel of WWII is done justice, and the buildings look very accurate in terms of architecture at the time.

Finally, the best part of this game is the multiplayer. I personally bought it after watching some videos of players duking it out in a capture the flag point scenario which proved to be very tactical after a couple of games online.

End of the day, Men of War provides a rich environment, very historically accurate units and buildings, and a nice realistic experience for any gamer.

OK now the Bad Stuff

Voice Acting is really really really bad. But this is such a minor point for when comparing it game play value and it is only during the cutscene where it is really bad, in game it not bad at all.

Multiplayer - once you in a game it is cool. But it is a pain in the butt to buddy up with people. I wish the Multiplayer lobby was a little cleaner and easier to manage.

Single player is Brutal - I mean brutal even on easy, you are going to get your ass handed to you. Some levels you are there is just a stream of bad guys - they just keep coming and coming and coming. It gets a little frustrating but when you do accomplish the mission it is rather rewarding to know you `finally' beat that level.

TIPS:

Allowing your team to move at the own will, they will move - sometimes not where you want them to go. So use hold move. I usually use free move when I have them running across the map, this way if they see any bad guys they will open fire but once there, I switch to hold move.

Sometimes it is better not to fire and stay hidden.

Don't forget to grab ammo and health packs off dead guys - nothing worse than getting into a firefight and realizing your guys are firing because they don't have any bang bangs.

It is incredibly detailed and very realistic. It's a game for people who enjoy a bit of realism, the game has an amazing amount of detail, a little overwhelming at times!

So if you're looking for a realistic WW2 squad based RTS (With plenty of vehicles thrown in), look no further than men at war!

I have played SEVERAL RTS games in my time, and I must admit that Men of War is unique. Reading the earlier reviews and description of the game i was almost expecting an experience similar to silent storm, or similar squad based tactical games. This is, however, nothing like that. Men of War actually tasks you with various missions that would resemble company of Heroes, except that you have to fairly well micro-manage your troops (down to every soldier actually having X bullets). Also, the difficulty can be downright brutal. I found myself frequently having to keep several savegames so that i could back up in increments to fix flaws in my defenses that i hadn't even noticed until it was too late. A fun, but challenging game. On a humorous sidenote, as an American I was slightly caught off-guard to find myself playing a WW2 game as the russians. Not that i have any problems with that, it just had a weird feel.

One of the most unique WW2 games on the market. They present middle between "Blitzkrieg 1" series and "Theater of War" series. Having more in-dept concept then first game (Blitzkrieg), and having much subtle and friendlier interface then the latter.

One of the most promising aspects is Multilayer, especially 4vs4 type maps, where players creativity, his strategical concepts, together with tactical ones, are tested in the highest attitude.

What much is there to say except that its developers are "Best Way" and "Digitalmindsoft" and publishers "1C Company" ,"505 Games" and "Aspyr Media". The game is very active, both from the developers and players that play it. New addons and patches are released constantly.

Another SECOND WORLD WAR?maybe you are asking, there is a lot of that in our times, right?,its worthy to buy it?,my answer...lets find out.

Men of war have a infinity of possible escenarios and options, for example, your infantry is being attack by a a heavy tank, you can

A) Shoot and die

B) Go to a place to hide and put bush, then when the tank is close to you,you can.

A)Shoot and die

B)Throw a molotov and see how the engine explode

The posibilitys are infinity and its up to you the way of fight, every unit have special habilites(sniper for exmaplo have a huge range, enginers can repair destroyed tanks to take them or repair yours)have a line of sight, for example,in the desert the visibility is 0,so you have to use rockets to see where the enemy is hiding or use the farols. Here is another example.

A heavy tank is going to your defenses, you have only infantry and a light tank, you can:

A)Shoot and die

B)Retrieve the infantry meanwhile the light tank sacrifice himfseel to destroy the wheel of his enemy and with any luck the motor.

Another exmaple

You are siding a house only with infantry,if you enter to the house the will shoot you instantly, you can.

A)Enter and die

B)Throw a grenade for the window.

Then,they can:

A)Die in a explosion

B)Get out and get shoted in the face.

Every unit have a inventory when there is his helment, guns, bullets, medic kit.The tanks can go out of gas.

Sometimes you buy a expensive artillery and go out of bullets, maybe is more worthy to buy a track of munitions instead to buy another artillery, buts its up to you.

Finally,the Multiplayer is a masterpiece,you can chose 4 nations,every nation with special units,and tanks.

Usa

Rusian

Japon

England

You can fight with 16 people at the same time in a really crazy combat.

So the anwser for my question is,charge your weapon,we are going to war.

This is a very good game, i recommend it to anyone who wants an RTS game that requires skill and strategy rather than a zerg rush as you see in many other RTS games such as Command and Conquer. It combines strategy, with fun and realism all into one great package. You can do many things such as using the terrain as cover and concealment or even making your own cover via explosives or sandbags! No unit has special abilities like in other games, although all units have skills with a variety of weapons (for example, if a tank crewman bails out he cant just pick up a rifle and be good as an actual rifleman with one), and no unit has infinite ammo; all units can run out of ammo in the face of battle, and you will have to tell them to loot the corpses of friend or foe to find more. My only gripes about this game would be the voice acting, sound effects, and the lack of skirmish (yet, as a new expansion pack that is in the works has one according to Digital Mind Software) Also, the campaign was excellent, my favorite level was the first German level.

An RTS which revels in it's micromanagement, but unlike it's predecessor this time the AI is competent enough to handle itself without babysitting. And this simply shows how excellent this game is.

The campaigns have a nice variety of missions which run the range from lone hero and desperate last stands to pitched battles of hundreds of troops. My only real criticism would be that the difficulty does likewise, the game wanders from easy to hard and back to easy a little too much. This is nitpicking however, it still remains one of the best WW II RTS's on what is a very crowded market.

Don't be put off by the so-generic-it-almost-sounds-like-a-parody title; Men of War is a pretty amazing game. It's far from perfect, but there is a lot of fun to be had, providing you enjoy a challenge. (The game is difficult for me even on 'easy', although I should point out that I'm appalling at RTS/RTT games.) The level of meaningful detail is quite impressive, and there is plenty of scope for player creativity thanks to the game's almost sandboxy nature -- at times MoW feels more like a slightly bizarre simulation than a plain old strategy game. Plenty of simple thrills, too: driving tanks directly through buildings; stealing your enemies' helmets; and of course directly controlling your men as in a third-person shooter. On the negative side, some of the missions are quite frustrating, and it feels like the level designers didn't always play to their game's strengths. 'Rubbish voice acting' is a common complaint, and it is indeed ridiculous, but not game-ruiningly so -- in fact, personally I find it gently amusing rather than annoying.

Rock, Paper, Shotgun has labelled Men of War its favourite RTS of the year so far, which is excellent praise from those who know the genre. I have definitely enjoyed the game, but am humbled by how difficult I find it. For fans of RTS, I think it’s definitely worth buying.

One of the Better RTS games out there, it offers some fresh tactical gameplay, with some very interesting features with Tanks and such that makes it quite a lot of fun, and the way you can blow stuff up, is also great fun.

But there are issues. We have the horrible voiceacting for starters which is at times terrible and painful to listen to.

Other stuff includes how armour is actually reprented, meaning at times you will see some weird things, like a Tiger being taken out by an armoured car from the front.

Also personally i was less than impressed by the campaign which kept switching from an RTS to trying to be like Commandos, which at some points worked, but in the long run, i couldn't really stomach.

Also Multiplayer gaming is okay, you can easily find games, but what actually happens in those is a different matter, and you can end up with some rather dull ones as people don't move at all and just wait for the other one to make a move..

But all in all, probably one of the best RTS games out there, which still says a lot. So i'd definately recommend it, although i would suggest trying out the demo so people might see if it is something for them.

AS you can read from the other, this is a really innovative game in the overpopulated RTS genre.

Some things that make this game stand out:

-You can control units directly, using the direct control. You still get to see if from top view, but you control the movement with the cursor keys, and the aiming with the mouse. This is really useful when using a tank, as the automament movement and pathing of tanks isn't the best, specially when moving them in groups.

-Inventory: each unit has its own inventory, including all types of weapons, ammo, grenades, and two types of mines. In big battles it isn't very important, but in small battles where you control a handful of men it's a great feature. You can scavenge things from dead bodies.

-Somewhat realistic warfare: except for the scale, there are rarely more than 6-7 tanks, or more than 100 men, while some of the battles depicted should be a lot bigger, but then, it would be impossible to control with the currect scheme. Your infantry is powerless against tanks, but if you manage to outflank them, they can be easily killed with AT grenades. Units without proper cover are dead meat. Line of fire is essential. Good tactics are needed, you can't simply overpower the enemy.

It all ads up to an outstanding, and most important, unique game. A must buy.

By Kranodor posted 6th Jun 2009

First up, some specs:

Similar Games: Soldiers - Heroes of World War 2, Faces of War (direct prequels)

Comparable Games: Close Combat Series

(Why? Realism, Importance of Visibility (Cover vs. Concealment, Line of Sight, Element of Surprise), Infantry/Tank Ratio (in numbers as well as in strengthes/weaknesses), general depiction of tanks (Almost-invulnerability and devastating weapons versus poor field of view, easy to ambush if alone, little to no progressive damage (if actual damage is taken, it is serious and it can be done with one well-placed shot of an appropriate weapon))

This game, like its predecessors, can be regarded as some of the best World War 2 Tactical Simulations out there. The atmosphere and feel of the game/s channel/s those of classical World War 2 movies very well - and thanks to Direct Control (a core feature of all three games of this series, although it's importance has somewhat lessened since the days of Soldiers - HoWW2) you cannot only command, but "be" the guy who throws a well-placed and well-timed grenade to take out that utterly devastating and dangerous MG nest. The mission number may seem low, but the missions are interesting, challenging, rather long (there are several autosave positions per mission) and tell quite a story. Most notable downsides: The controls are sometimes a bit sloppy, and there aren't many stops - if you aren't able to say: "Okay, now I save the game and quit" even in the middle of a mission (or right after its start, or shortly before the end) you'll likely stay enthralled for hours. If you played Soldiers or Faces of War, and liked them, you should get this game. Likewise, if you like this game, the other two may be interesting.

I've had the game for several months now and after a rocky launch of bad communication on patches, the game is starting to shape up.

A great buy for anyone looking to try a new type of RTS game as it brings new elements of realism to the table. Though not a base builder game you are in control of battalions of units ranging from Infantry to heavy tanks.

Pro's:

Great Gameplay.

Low system specs.

Accurate models and damage models.

Single and Multiplayer.

Con's:

Bad English voice acting.

No Japanese, as of yet. (the patch is being worked on as I type this.)

Again a great buy for anyone that likes RTS games.

The best WW2 strategy game made. Online play is fantastic. The tank vs tank battles are better then any other game I have played by far. No boring, cheesy health bars its all about landing the critical shots. You can manually take over any unit and change the game play. You can manually aim the shots of your tanks to take off tracks, knock out engines or hit weak points on the enemy. Every vehicle plate has an armor value and every round has a penetration value. The detail in the game makes it stand out from any other.

The range of weapons is awesome and the accuracy of each model is to match. Worth every cent! And its cheaper then all the big name games that have no real support! This game has several patches being made and the forums tell you what they are up to.

This is one of the best strategy titles available. The only thing I think could have been done better is the voice acting. Everything else is fantastic. The game is a little difficult, but that is a good thing. You definitely won't finish the whole game in a few hours. This is a nice change to the norm in RTS games. Instead of trying to match units to what kills them, and overpower your enemies, you actually need to think. Instead of rushing in guns blazing, you usually find yourself outnumbered. The game forces you to think of a strategy to take out your enemies. You will need to use cover, sneak around, and really put some thought into how to remove the MG emplacement without losing your men. I can't say enough good things about the gameplay here. Everything is detailed. Each unit has an inventory, you can pickup guns off the ground, you can repair vehicles. It is really nice. If you like WW2 and strategy games at all, you owe it to yourself to get this game.

Very good game. If you like WW2 and realistic strategy games, this is a game for you. Finally there's some realism in a game about WW2, no more hordes of germans armed to the teeth with mg42, now you got lots of riflemen with k98, assault troopers with mp40/44 etc... The armor design on every unit in the game (even the infantry(think helmets etc...)) is perfect. You won't be seeing a Sherman blowing a Tiger in a face-to-face battle anymore. The AI is very good too, ennemies flee from grenades, take cover, throw nades at your tanks and infantry, AT canons fire at tanks before firing at infantry. Even when the friendly AI lacks at some points (ie. targeting parts on tanks or firing grenades at the perfect time) you just have to use the third person, tacking control of a Tiger tank to blow tanks piece by piece is just awesome. The power of weapons is very well rendered: firing with a tank into a house and seeing it crumbles to the ground, killing everyone inside, feels and looks good or burning a house to the ground with a flamethrower seeing the fire spread to the nearby grass/trees is too. Missions designs and maps are very well done with a lot of details. Multiplayer is very fun too, either it is fighting for a french town, choosing which tank you get or which infantry you send to battle, or doing the single player missions in coop is perfect. There's still some bugs but the team is working on fixing them and those bugs are nothing that won't let you play. If you want the game to looks good it takes quite a good computer but the game is well optimised and even older computers will be able to run it with lower graphics. All in all this is one of the best game I've ever played.

Probably the most innovative game to come along in a long time. Normally a RTS game leaves you few choices other than click and drag unit from place to place. Its nice to see a little more involvement in the game from everything from stance, to what weapons to employ per unit. Men of War is a mixed bag of genres which normally comes off bad as they dont really concentrate on any particular genre but try to make the bigger picture work. Men of War though successfully mixes Role Playing, Real Time Strategy, and even a little bit of 3rd Person Shooter. Thats very difficult to pull off but they've not only have done it well, they made this a must have title. Every time you think the WWII war has been overdone, you get a rare title like this that makes things different enough to reinvest that interest back into this era. I would love to see them come up with a modern wars version of engine.

This game is the perfect mix of the Commandos and Red Alert series. It has to be the most detailed games to date, with things like indiviual inventories for each unit and multiple-part tanks that can be destroyed piece by piece.

You can also control individual units with mouse and keyboard, similar to the Battlezone series.

Amazing graphics and even more impressive physics make this my favorite RTS to date. Company of Heroes could learn a thing or two from this series.

This also comes with a free game, Silent Heroes, which is also pure fun and a prequel to Men of War.

It's sad that this game isn't big in North America because I believe it has true potential to compete with other major titles out now.

If you're a WWII fanatic, love RTS, and enjoy massive battles with amazing graphics and sound, then this game will be your new joy.

My only cons about this game are some funky movement issues and god-awful voiceovers in the cinematics.
