Sealed away inside Pandora’s Box are the greatest creatures of myth and lore, locked away by ancient forces to preserve humanity. There they have spent eons waiting to be freed in order to rule the world once more. When a thief named Deckard is hired to steal an ancient artefact, he unwittingly triggers a war between man and myth. Now he is the only one capable of preventing the destruction of civilization.

Giant griffons rule the skies and werewolves tear at the flesh of the innocent as cities are held under siege by creatures we’d dismissed as the imaginings of our ancestors.

As the only person able to seal Pandora’s Box and return the beasts to their prison, Deckard must work with a shadowy secret paramilitary society to save our civilization before it’s torn apart by tooth and claw.

  • Modern military firepower meets the tooth and claw of legend; A massive, block-buster experience; spectacular battles, run and gun fire-fights
  • Dynamic environments crumble, skyscrapers fall; the collapse of modern society in the face of the beasts of myth is realized in breath-taking detail
  • See London burn to the ground and witness New York torn apart in spectacular supernatural destruction
  • Incredible and unnerving AI: watch in fascination as werewolves scale vertical walls to find a path to the player and use objects in the environment to their advantage
  • Encounter three-way fire-fights: take on the beasts of the box and those who would seek to control them for their own evil ends
  • Take on enemies from the size of a small animal all the way through to spectacular titan creatures tens of storeys tall.

An almost solid FPS game set in modern times when (spoilers free review as always) ancient mythological monsters attack. You will need to find out what is the cause of it all and in the process kill many many monsters, but also regular enemy human fighters. For the most part the game is very good, though not reaching the level of top games of the type. Unfortunately I had a weird bug where I couldn't continue the game (I was near the ending) and no way to get pass it. As long as you don't come across this, the game is very good.

Disappointing...

I played the demo before buying the game and was quite axited by it but when i had the game, i was really disappointed: it's buggy and so much linear without punch.

This game was better than what I expected.I have been wanting this game after I first seen the trailer for it a while back.I did not see too many good reviews about the game.So I waited played the demo. which then made me purchased the full version. If you like Half Life,Painkiller games and the Underworld movies you will like this game.If you have a good video card and crank the resolution up the game has some nice visuals and graphics. The only bad pick about the game and why it did not get a full set of stars is the save system. It uses check points and you can only start from the last saved check point.I wish game creators would get away from this type of save system and just let you save your game whenever you need to.If you don't mind that minor flaw about the save game system pick this one up and have fun blasting werewolves and other demon creatures.

I have a hard time finding a lot to say about this game. It's visually nice, but the controls do have an occasional glitch or two. For the usual budget price, I think it's still worth giving it a shot for the story alone. There are definitely much better games in its genre out there to be played, but I think this is the game you should probably get around to - once you've beaten the rest.

I JUST FINISHED THIS GAME AND I MUST SAY THAT THE "PRO" REVIEWERS GOT IT WRONG AGAIN. SHAME ON THEM FOR KILLING WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN A GOOD SERIES. IT'S NOT THE BEST GAME I HAVE EVER PLAYED BUT ITS NOT NEAR AS BAD AS THEY MAKE IT OUT TO BE. ALTHOUGH IT COULD HAVE BEEN BETTER, I ENJOYED IT.

FIRST OF ALL I RECOMMEND THAT YOU PLAY THIS GAME WITH MOUSE AND KEYBOARD, I FOUND THAT USING AN XBOX 360 CONTROLLER DIDN'T WORK NEAR AS WELL. I WOULD GO AS FAR AS SAYING ITS ALMOST UNPLAYABLE WITH A CONTROLLER.

THE GRAPHICS IN THE GAME ARE WELL DONE. THE CHARACTERS, ENVIRONMENTS, CREATURES, WEAPONS ECT. GET THE JOB DONE AND I NEVER THOUGHT IT WAS BAD LOOKING. LEGENDARY USE THE UNREAL ENGINE, WHICH IS NICE BECAUSE YOU CAN EASILY ADJUST THIS CONFIG FILES TO ADJUST MANY EFFECTS AND SETTINGS TO OPTIMIZE HOW IT LOOKS AND RUNS DEPENDING ON YOUR SYSTEM.

I LIKED THE ANIMUS SYSTEM THEY PUT IN THE GAME THAT HAS A TYPE OF "FORCE" POWER ALLOWING YOU TO DISORIENT THE ENEMIES WITH AN AREA BLAST AND IT ALSO SERVES AS A WAY TO ABSORB HEALTH. YOU WILL EVENTUALLY FIND YOURSELF GLAD TO SEE MORE ENEMIES COMING KNOWING THAT ONCE THEY ARE DEAD YOU WILL BE USING THEIR ANIMUS TO YOUR ADVANTAGE.

THE GAME IS QUITE LINEAR SO JUST EXPECT TO BE FIGHTING THE ENEMIES IN CONTAINED AREAS. IT KEEPS THE GAME MOVING ALONG AT A BRISK PACE SO IT DIDN'T BOTHER ME AT ALL.

SOME THINGS I WISH THE DEVELOPERS WOULD HAVE DONE TO MAKE THIS GAME BETTER:

MAKE THE MAIN CHARACTER MORE INTERESTING. HE IS RUNNING AROUND IN A BUSINESS SUIT THE WHOLE TIME. REALLY ? WHO THOUGH THAT WOULD BE GOOD ?

MORE ENEMY VARIETY. THERE ARE A FEW TYPES OF HUMAN ENEMIES BUT THEY ALL SEEM PRETTY MUCH THE SAME WHEN FIGHTING THEM AND THE GAMES MONSTERS ARE BASED ON MYTHOLOGY, THEY HAD AN OPPORTUNITY TO PUT SO MANY AWESOME CREATURES IN THE GAME BUT THEY ONLY USE ABOUT HALF A DOZEN.

MORE ANIMUS POWERS, YOU GET THE AREA BLAST AND HEAL POWERS AND THAT'S IT. I WOULD HAVE LIKED TO SEE MORE DEVELOPMENT OF THIS IN THE GAME. THEY SHOULD HAVE MADE IT SO YOU LEVELED UP YOUR ANIMUS AND SELECTED EXTRA ABILITIES. BEING ABLE TO UNLOCK MORE POWERS IN A SECOND PLAY THROUGH OF THE GAME WOULD HAVE REALLY ADDED TO REPLAY AS WELL. AS IT IS THERE IS NOT MUCH REASON TO PLAY IT AGAIN AND BASICALLY ONLY HAVING ONE "POWER" WAS A MISSED OPPORTUNITY TO MAKE THE GAME BETTER.

LEGENDARY IS SIMPLY A "GOOD" GAME THAT HAD THE POTENTIAL TO BE SOMETHING SPECIAL. I CAN ONLY IMAGINE WHAT LEGENDARY 2 MIGHT HAVE BEEN LIKE IF THE DEVELOPERS HAD EXPANDED UPON THE GROUNDWORK MADE IN THIS GAME.

THE STORY COULD HAVE REALLY BEEN A LOT BETTER TOO. IT'S NOT REALLY THAT INTERESTING AND CONSIDERING THE MYTHOLOGY ASPECT OF THE GAME THEY SHOULD HAVE LET THEIR IMAGINATIONS RUN WILD BUT BASICALLY THE STORY IS PRETTY BLAND.

IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A DECENT SHOOTER AT A LOW PRICE I RECOMMEND LEGENDARY. JUST DON'T EXPECT IT TO BE THE BEST GAME YOU EVER PLAYED OR YOU WILL BE LET DOWN.

IN THE END I HAD FUN PLAYING LEGENDARY AND THAT'S WHY I PLAY GAMES. IT'S KIND OF OLD SCHOOL. YOU JUST KILL EVERYTHING AND MOVE ON TO THE NEXT AREA. RINSE AND REPEAT. YEAH, IT GETS A BIT REPETITIVE BUT A LOT OF SHOOTERS ARE LIKE THAT. LEGENDARY DOESN'T DO ANYTHING YOU HAVEN'T SEEN BEFORE BUT WHAT IT DOES IT DOES WELL.

IN THE END I GIVE THE GAME A 7 OUT OF 10.

You are a thief hired to steal an artifact, being the protag you are you open said artifact which turns out to be, you guess it bad, Pandora's Box bad. Now it's up to you with new super powers (and a secret army) to set things right. If this doesn't sound like a generic plot you haven't seen a movie in the past ten years. Anyhow, as generic hero you shoot your way past countless evils both the winged type and unwinged. Something about this reminded me of Necrovision for some reason but it's not really like it. Anyhow, the game looks great but seems odd at some points almost like clay motion. All and all, if you don't mind being generic hero in generic game, pick this up. I got it for sub a buck so I'm really happy with it.

Legendary isn't a bad game, it's just aggressively mediocre. It's an extremely linear FPS with a dull, underused gimmick (absorbing fallen monsters' life energy). The FPS mechanics aren't particularly bad, but the game suffers from very obviously being a bad console port. The worst problem is that you can scope/look down the ironsights of a weapon, but it doesn't change mouse sensitivity at all, so there is never any benefit to scoping, and it's extremely difficult to shoot an enemy that's more than a few yards away.

The plot is sort of interesting- fighting griffins and werewolves with modern weaponry is neat, especially since each enemy monster has a unique quirk to taking it down. (Werewolves must be decapitated after being incapacitated, minotaurs are only vulnerable from behind, etc.)

Unfortunately half the enemies you face are humans with guns, so this goes underused.

The game's pretty short and ends with a frustratingly blatant piece of sequel bait- about half an hour's worth of plot development is crammed into the last two minutes so they can end on a cliffhanger. This not only is irritating because there'll probably never be a sequel, but it also totally devalues all the effort the player just went through to beat the last area.

So: If you see this game for really cheap (like anything under say $4), then it's a few hours of competent but forgettable monster-shooting. But I can't recommend it for a higher price.

Legendary isn't perfect, but it isn't a horrible game either. It is a bit short and can be repetitive, but the idea behind it, that someone has opened the "legendary" Pandora's Box and the monsters of myth are loose in the modern world is at least original. Sometimes it feels a bit unfair in terms of balance, as the monsters can be too fast and your guns seem to lack a punch, but experienced FPS players shouldn't have too horrible a time with it. The graphics are decent, and if you can grab the game on sale I'd highly recommend it. I only say wait for a sale because of the almost utter lack of replay value. Once you've seen the main campaign you don't really need to see it again, and their is virtually no multiplayer community. In sum, it's an average game, with a great idea, but fails to reach the heights the idea set for itself.

ITS A BIT OF FUN AND SO CHEEP THAT THERE IS NO REASON TO COMPLAIN, GIVE IT A GO YOU NEVER KNOW YOU MIGHT LIKE IT BUT NOT ONE FOR THE HARDCORE BATTLEFIELD CREW

Release the Kraken!

By ElfShotTheFood posted 5th October 2011

Legendary isn't a great game, but it's not as bad as you may have heard. What it is is an average first-person shooter with a few good set-piece action sequences. It's short length (the game can be beaten in under six hours) and lack of replay value (it has multiplayer, but no one is playing online) are drawbacks, but if you have a few dollars to spend and an afternoon to kill, Legendary might be worth a look.

Legendary has players fighting a grab-bag of mythological creatures that have been unleashed on the world after Pandora's Box has been opened. The player's goal is stuff the beasts back in the box and take down the bad guy who wants to use Pandora's Box to rule the world. The plot is intriguing, but never rises above hokey thanks to boring characters and cheesy dialog. All you need to know is that lots of werewolves, griffons, and enemy soldiers need to be shot.

The shooting in Legendary is okay, but not great. While it works, the gunplay is nothing special. It's also easy to get stuck on small objects and in doorways, which dampens the fun. When you're not shooting enemies, you're holding down the E key to open doors in the game's extremely linear levels.

Legendary does feature a handful of sequences that make the game stand out a little. There's some chaotic - albeit heavily-scripted - action during the opening level, and later on you get to shoot down griffons and blow up a Kraken with a rocket launcher. Not many games can make that claim, but Legendary can. Most of the rest of the time though, you're shooting your way through subway tunnels and sewers.

As a budget-priced pickup for a rainy day, Legendary is okay. It's stable, runs well, has decent graphics and sound, and the controls are acceptable. Even though multiplayer is a ghost town, Legendary is still a decent $10 single-player game for shooter fans who don't demand perfection.

I would like to preface this review by saying that I have a pretty high tolerance for mediocre games. A game doesn't need to be ground-breaking, earth-shaking or a visual masterpiece to make me happy; it just needs to be fun. Unfortunately, Legendary falls far, far short of anything resembling fun, and I would even go so far as to say that it frequently borders on nigh unplayable.

The laundry list of Legendary's failures is an especially dirty one. For starters, player movement is sluggish, and jump height is limited to about six lousy inches (although, curiously, you can easily launch yourself forward by several meters). On top of that, every wheel valve and door panel you can interact with in the game requires you to hold the "use" key for roughly 6-8 seconds, which becomes especially aggravating when you're being swarmed by enemies (and this happens frequently).

The enemies - who are frustratingly hard to hit, thanks to their hilariously clunky animation - generally just spawn endlessly until you reach the next checkpoint or flip a switch. Enemy difficulty is simply infuriating; your foes hit hard and take far too many shots to go down, and they have a tendency to cluster around you, preventing movement. Even worse, getting hit "stuns" you, locking up your mouse aiming for a moment. Even on easy mode, the game seems utterly hellbent on seeing you dead. In fact, the gameplay is generally so bad, it makes me wonder if anybody at Spark actually played the game (or any other FPS for that matter) before they released it.

Worst of all (yes, even worse than the half dozen or so times I fell through the geometry and out of the world), the game is plagued by a very narrow field of view (FOV) and unforgivably sloppy mouse controls. Specifically: mouse sensitivity doesn't change while zoomed in or aiming down the sights, and horizontal and vertical sensitivity are both at 100%. These problems clearly demonstrate that Legendary was designed with a gamepad/consoles in mind, making it evident that this, the PC version, is little more than a bad port.

Legendary does get a few things right. The art and creature design is unique and interesting, set-pieces are truly epic and visually astounding, and the story manages to come across in a way that isn't especially puke-inducing, which is nice. In addition, the pacing feels right, and the checkpoint save system is actually really well done. Kudos to the developers for all that, but unfortunately, the fundamental bits of this game are such a hideous mess, it's hard to appreciate the few things it actually does well (or well enough, rather).

Bottom line: It's bad. Spend your money elsewhere.

As a concept, clearly the immediate attraction to Legendary is the appeal of fighting creatures from myth and legend. Sadly the execution is lacking to the point where it's simply not worth your time, bar morbid curiosity and a sale price.

The main flaw is the most glaring, for a first person shooter the weapons lack any impact whatsoever; you could be shooting pop guns for all the feedback you get from firing any of them. Non-human enemies appear to suffer no ill effects from being fired upon until they simply drop dead. The player movement is awkward, sprinting is overly fast, and jumping still leaves you unable to clear even the smallest obstacles and short gaps.

The FOV is straight out of the worst that consoles have to offer, and there appears to be no way of fixing this via configuration files or otherwise, meaning confusion can reign in tight spaces where you feel like you have blinkers on, and objects with which you can interact have to be right in your face before you can operate them. Clearly something that was recognized as an issue given an icon appears on screen to show if you're currently crouched. There is a mystical 'Animus' mechanic used to mainly heal yourself and create a 'pulse' to push enemies and objects around which is powered by drawing essence from the world or dead enemies. It's usage prioritizes sucking essence from environment over actually healing the player, even if you're facing away from the essence point and are what you might consider to be a reasonable distance away, which can lead to occasional frustration when you're frantically trying to heal yourself and instead just casually draining essence from the environment.

The atmosphere can be impressive, but more so during the many scripted sequences than when you're actually playing the game. And many of the scripted sequences assume you're looking in certain directions and taking it slow; you can find yourself unsure of where to go purely because the scripting is waiting to complete certain events before you have a path cleared.

I will say that it's nice to have a newer, console FPS that doesn't simply regenerate your health while you stand around idly, and you do get to fight some reasonably impressive creatures, but overall the terribly weak core shooting mechanics, awkward environment interaction and incredibly shallow and flawed story which I haven't even bothered mentioning except for here, simply combine to give you nothing but brief moments of impressive atmosphere in a FPS that's otherwise best left on the virtual shelf.

1) BUY THIS GAME

2) Legendary received a pretty hard time from some reviewers that seemed to be looking for something specific, and I personally think that they missed the point entirely.

3) This is a AAA title that is is still quite new / current, and is selling for a ridiculously low budget price.

4) I played this on my ATI Eyefinity rig, and it just plain works out-of-box, so hats off the the dev's for this .... BIG plus in my book. Usually games that use Unreal tech require FOV / Aspect Ratio mods etc. Not this title!!

5) One small frustration is the checkpoint system. It is always questionable in any game to use checkpoints; sometimes it adds to game-play, sometimes it frustrates. Well, here it's 50/50.

6) So, if you own a PC and want a strong if generic FPS, BUY THIS GAME.

P.S. ALWAYS ignore reviews by game magazines. Like everything in life - make up your own mind, and at this price, you have the luxury to do so.

When it comes down to it, Legendary is average.

There's nothing particularly wrong with it. But it has no strong points either. As far as Unreal engined FPS goes it's not particularly special looking. It would barely tax the previous Unreal engine, never mind the one that has unleashed a slew of FPS since UT3.

It has its moments, such as the battle in Time Square and Parliament and taking down Minotaurs.

It's biggest problem is the lack of content. The game is very short, very linear, lacking variety in enemy types, weapons and civilians. The powers you gain at the start of the game never feel very developed and wind up being little more than an alternative health system.

There's also zero connection with Deckard who is utterly bland directionless and emotionless. You never once get the slightest inclination as to what his motivations are until the end and that just winds up seeming totally out of character.

Probably because prior to that he has none.

Then there's the constant radio chatter barking instructions at you. You are left wondering why they're focussing so much attention on you (never mind how they have such a firm grasp of what you can see around you) when there's so much else going on.

So yes, if you want some mindless blasting for a couple of hours then Legendary might just be the ticket. What there is of it is good enough at what it does. But it's not a game in any danger of living up to its name.

I would like to first point out that this game is not as bad as it has been recieved by many reviewers out there. First off, the graphics. The graphics aren't anything fancy like crysis or fallout 3, but aren't dated like other budget titles. Overall the game looks nice with a few noticeable low-resolution textures scattered around your surroundings.

Next the gameplay. The gameplay is pretty solid but has it's flaws. First there's virtual no cover-system. You can crouch behind certain objects, but that's about it. The shooting mechanics are average with nothing special to note. The one cool feature is a special power your character gains at the beginning of the game; which is used to heal yourself and can double as a weapon in the form of an energy wave against your foes.

Overall the game is decent. It's not a game that's really going to have an impact on the FPS genre, but it has it's moments. The story is unique and original, and the overall the execution of the game is pretty solid. It's game you should at least give a chance, because it is entertaining and gives you the chance to duke it out with massive mythical creatures. This game is a fun FPS and I would recommend it to any fan of action games.
