Ikaro is a very unique air racing game. It appears to take place in the future which explains why there is science fiction appeal to it. The aircraft are not based on any models of today, but are still believable in their ability to fly. The races are very challenging, and should be practiced first. Forget about using the keyboard, you will need a gamepad or joystick to have any hope of winning these races as quick reflexes are demanded. In the beginning you can only fly one type of aircraft, but you do get a small selection of courses to choose from. To unlock additional aircraft, you need to keep racing and collecting income to afford better aircraft (Even if you come in last, you still make some money). The graphics are top notch, and are the best of any air racing game I've ever played. While the aircraft physics do have an arcade feel to them, they are simulated enough to give a nice realistic experience. If you want to, you can fly around and explore the scenery. You can even land anywhere you want, but the moment the engine quits, you will automatically find yourself taking off from the main airport. I have to give this game a perfect rating. It is one of those games that I just have to play several times a day. The graphics are top notch, the realistic physics shine through the arcade feel. The races are very challenging.
I have Windows 7, and found the installation experience confusing. If you have Windows 7 (or Vista), here is what to do and try. When you are asked to choose between unlocking or activating the game, choose to activate it. Your browser should open up with a place to enter your serial number. If this doesn't happen, trying changing the program's compatibility to Win XP SP3, and check the box that says to run it as an administrator.
