A mediocre action adventure, but for its price it offers a few hours of entertainment of action. Should only grab this during a sale or if you're a die hard action adventure fan.

A nice God Of War type of game. It has some problems with animations (enemies can not touch you while you are doing a takedown) and the jumping areas sometimes are frustrating.

Short but it doesn’t have to be longer, so it’s fine.

Good for a low price, and having 4 hours of gameplay.

Garshasp: Short but Sweet

By soldancer posted 16th August 2011

Garshasp is commendable for many reasons, though I think first and foremost is that it makes no claim to hide what it really it - a strongly God of War influenced brawler. Though the game is quite short, weighing in at a scant four or five hours to complete, the entirety of the gameplay experience was enjoyable. New mechanics, enemies, and abilities are introduced throughout the entire game, right up to the final boss. The sparse story gives you just enough of a framework to serve as a backdrop for the setting. The tight controls (assuming you are using a controller) never come up short during combat and only occasionally cause some problems with dashes and platforming.

Simply dismissing Garshasp as a derivative title is doing this excellent game a disservice. Though it doesn't implement new features for the genre, it has very interesting settings, a great score, and wonderful monster and level design. In fact, Garshasp himself is the only thing really lacking in the design department, being a fiercely browed Persian man who looks a bit like the Prince from Prince of Persia: Warrior Within after receiving an extreme forehead graft. Oh well.

If you are willing to accept that this is nothing new, and yet understand that things can be awesome even if they are not groundbreaking, you will have a great time with Garshasp. I look forward to seeing what else this (indie!) studio can do.

I really, really, really wanted to love this game. It's not a bad game, by any means, but I expected it to be better. Great and very seldomly used setting, interesting mytology, decent looking graphics. The developers certainly aimed high, and did complete a decent game. It just wasn't great.

Garshasp initially suffered with a strange pricing strategy at most download sites. This put a lot of people off the game, especially with it being the first game from a new independant developer.

The game does suffer from some bugs which could be fixed with some polishing, but the bugs still present as I write this review won't stop you from doing what needs to be done in the game. It is a kind of "God of War" game for PC gamers who don't have a PS3 or PSP. It has some nice action, nice graphics for an indie, and overall I'd recommend the game now that it is at a price that reflects it's quality.

If you want a game to pick up and play for short bursts to fill some time, then you won't go too far wrong with Garshasp.

"Garshasp is a PC game that can be played with only a keyboard, which can sometimes be a good thing, but in this case seems to get in the way of the action. Though unique in it’s programming, (an in-house engine on top of OGRE 3D for graphics rendering, Physx for physics and OpenAL for audio) one would think that with all this technology from the leading edge in the game industry would lead to an eye-popping experience. Sadly, this isn’t the case." read more at http://www.indiegamereviewer.com/garshasp-the-monster-slayer-an-indie-game-review/

Anyone with a grain of common sense will avoid this game like the plague!

The camera is fixed and controls itself "cinema" style. What this means in terms of gameplay is that sometimes the game will spin the camera around and all your controls get reversed - a terrible design decision. The game is also chalk full of "puzzles" - that is to say, ridiculous game elements that require you to die over and over, restarting from your last checkpoint each time, to learn through trial and error what you are supposed to do.

The map is also completely linear. You have absolutely no freedom to just go and explore. Aside from a couple of slightly hidden power ups, you have to follow a direct path through the game. That path however, will often lead to very unclear paths where you cannot seem to go anywhere - also known as: terrible level design.

The animations are pretty solid and the game is relatively bug-free, but the terrible design decisions make this nothing but frustrating to play.

Do yourself a favor and skip it.

Its a pretty fun God of War clone. The visual and audio are good which some impressive camera angles even with the occasional camera clipping into the wall.. The combat is easily exploited with the throw button which instantly kills enemies. The game is only about 3-4 hours long. The controls are tight but you pretty much need to plug in a game pad like the x360 controller to have fun with it.
