Golden Axe 2 review

As I mentioned in my Golden Axe 1 review, Golden Axe 2 really improves on it in every way. Co-op is a blast, fighting is still just as solid as ever, and hey animal riding is back (always will be though, given that it's really the trademark of Golden Axe)! It's really one of those games that you can just install, leave it there, and boot up on a boring Saturday morning, then come out feeling a little cheerier, a little more refreshed.

The first Golden Axe was one of the first PC games I played, and I loved it.

Almost 2 decades later, this game is still worth playing. I like the different types of spells each character can do, and also riding the the tailed beasts, of course :D

Same graphic as first Golden Axe, same methods of problems solving (swinging your weapon in blinding rage), but new enemies, slightly new interface and new story! You liked or missed first one? If so - grab this and save Yuria once (or not) more.

A not-so-well-known sequel to the famous Golden Axe. The game plays very similarly to the first installment of the series, with only minor tweaks (such as the spell abilities).

This 'edition' offers you a few bonuses besides the game itself: when playing on a screen larger than 320*200 pixels (:-)), you can select whether you want the screen pixels smoothed or not. Also, the possibility of saving & loading the game at any moment really helps the more casual gamer.

Part 2 of this trilogy was released in late 1991 for the SegaMegaDrive.Once again, you can choose between 3 heroes who were in the original.Magic system has changed since last time, instead of using all magic when you perform a special attack, you can now use any or all of magic by pressing the button and release at will.

Otherwise the gameplay is similar to the Golden Axe 1,but with better graphics and sound. But none of the new songs in GoldenAxe2 is better than "wilderness" from the orginal.

Golden Axe 2 review

Golden Axe 2 is a great game and it is definitely one of the best classic arcade games out there.

The game is longer than an average classic game and there is a good replay value here since you can choose between two game modes, three different characters, and there game difficulties.

You can perform melee or magic attacks and there are also dash and special attacks. I noticed some of the attacks didn’t register correctly and the inability to block attacks is a minus, but that certainly doesn’t ruin the gameplay.

Graphically, the game looks good for an old game. In fact, I think it was one of the best looking games at that time.

Finally, I was impressed by the package as a whole. It installed and ran perfectly on my system. I got a clean and nice looking interface. A manual. And I could even save the game which was something rare at that time.
