GAME SUMMARY

Fairytale about Father Frost, Ivan and Nastya

Rating: 3.2 (266 votes cast)

Inspired by reading more than one thousand Russian fairy tales, this is a story about love, spite, greed, modesty, humility and seeking. It is divided into four acts – according to the four seasons. That means you’ll visit some of the game locations several times, but every time at a different season and in a different time of day.

  • Together with the characters of a humble girl Nastienka and gallant hero Ivan you are to overcome many baits and puzzles and in the end you’ll try some of the wedding’s pirozhki.
  • You are awaited by mysterious beings and magic objects, wild beasts and domestic animals and pets, guileful highway robbers, evil hag Baba Yaga, Old Man Mushrooom, prudent Father Frost and many other traditional and non-traditional fairy-tale characters.
  • Any child able to switch a computer on can play this with parental assistance, however, this is ideal for children aged 6 years as their first game as the PC control system is for the beginner.

A nice little adventure with a good fairytale admosphere, but a bit unpolished here and there. It kept my attention for a while, also because I love Russian fairytales, but on the whole, my interest was not far lived. Too plain an adventure, in my oppinion.

I had some issues running this game on windows 7 64bit but solved that with using comparability mode Windows XP and Run as Administrator. Once I got past these issues I really enjoyed the game alot more than I expected to. I am not a big fan of point and click adventure games but this one kept my attention and I found myself wanting to know what would be my next task.

Fairytale isn't the best adventure around, the voice acting is what it is, the character animation is a bit clunky and the puzzles are rather easy. Yet still the game manages to have certain charm in it, making it fun to play through.

For seasoned and perhaps even not so, adventurers Fairytale is more than a bit easy snack, that can be played through in less than 10 hours. There isn't anything particularly wrong with the game, as it works just as you'd expect old school adventure game to work.

The graphics are okay, though the character art wasn't to my liking. The voice acting ranges from mediocre to bad. The music is a collection of Russian influenced themes and the game could do with some more variation in that department.

In the end Fairytale feels a bit mediocre, but it has charm none the less. It's not King's Quest as far fairytale based games go, but I've played much worse. I'd say the game might even fit for beginner adventurers.
