Europa Universalis III : Eastern - Anno Domini 1400 Sprite Pack review

The Eastern Sprite Pack adds better sprites to the eastern European countries. It doesn't change gameplay and is pure eyecandy, so it's not necessary to play EU3. But if you want your game to just look better, this is the thing for you.

A collection of over a dozen historically accurate character models specific to the late Medieval period to bring a bit more visual vareity to Europa Universalis 3.

It is a great addition to the Europa Universalis family, I love the extra flavor.

For the price, it adds some flavor to the game for cheap, but with all sprite packs it can get a little expensive for just cosmetic changes. Still, good cheap purchases for some blue coins.

EU3 does need this DLC. Adding variaty in the troops will give you much more immersion in game. However, it is a bit expensive. Afterall, these sprite should've been in the game in the first place.

This small, cheap add-on for EU3 adds an additional level of immersion - particuarly if you are playing an Eastern European nation or interacting with one.

It certainly doesn't tranform the game, but it is a nice addition.

A good addition for players who want a little more detail in the game. Would recommend it if you play the game a lot, as it barely costs more than a small cup of coffee. Nice work of Paradox to add these small DLC that does not completely change the game but just adds some more for your eyes.

A lot of reviews already but I will join in anyway.

Nice models that add a bit of flavour and eye candy to the EU3 series, early EU3 players will remember just how much nicer the game has become when it was released and these Middle Age sprites are the icing on the cake.

I low price but really only for serious EU3 player looking for that little bit extra.

It's a nice model pack. Goes quite well with it's Western counterpart, but it should only be considered as eye-candy. Of course it does improve flavor for those, who felt original models needed more variety.

Very nice sprite pack. A must buy, especially if you already have the Western European set.

Nice sprites. The new combat animation looks nice in combat, with attacker and defender giving and dodging blows. But the same animation is also used for assaulting forts, and it looks weird to see a single soldier dodging non-existent blows. Still recommended for immersion.

A very pefect spirite pack!

Better then the old spirits. In special I like the Teutonic Order spirits.

Eastern Pack is a nice touch to that portion of the EU3 world. Finally one can recognize at a glance all those Russian OPMs.

A bit of love the different fashions of Eastern Europe is what makes this DLC totally worth the low price. It provides a clear and flavourful distinction between cultures that enriches the atmosphere of the game. Once again this is DLC done right.

When I bought these sprites, I didn't really register the difference immediately, but now, seeing people play without the sprites makes me very glad I bought them - they do look genuinely much better.

This sprite pack along with the Western one are a very nice addition to the game. After you'll try it you won't want to back to the original ones as these are simply superior in all aspects. All if you don't mind paying a symbolic price that is.

The pack looks nice, definitely improves the game's overall look. It is a must buy for all Europa Universalis 3 players... but honestly, dunno if it is worth $2. Waiting for a 50% off would be the ideal thing to do.

This sprite pack gives different new sprites for the eastern factions. If you want to play as any of the eastern european nations and are tired of looking at the same old sprites then this is right up your alley!

Great Sprite packs. These ones are probably the best as they are directly evident as soon as you begin a game.

This sprite pack, although perhaps not for the casual fan of EU3, provides a small - but appreciable - amount of depth to this already wonderful game.

After spending many hours playing EU3, this and it's Western counterpart are a very nice way to freshen the early stage of the game.

Not a pack that would be called essential by any means, especially for long time players, but a nice way to visually freshen up the great game.

If you're a hardcore fan of EU3 then there is no question that this is for you. They look great and they really help change the game atmosphere. It really helps the different countries look different from one another. It does suck that the sprites are only for the early years, but isn't that where most of us spend are gaming time anyway. I can see this getting really expensive if they keep releasing the sprite packs one by one and by culture. But if you've been playing EU3 for a while and could use a change this is definitely a good buy.

These sprites are a great aesthetic addition for any fans of EU3. This Eastern Pack (a Western Units Pack is also available for the same price) is especially valuable because it improves the visual appeal of some of the more overlooked factions like Muscowy and the Byzantium.

Note that these sprites do require Divine Wind, and they get replaced by later technology after about 1500. That still leaves a full century of gameplay through the grand campaign, though, so they are definitely worth their low price. A great way to spend some of your Blue Coins!

Europa Universalis III : Eastern - Anno Domini 1400 Sprite Pack review

By Octavio posted 20th July 2011

If im not mistaken, the Western Spritepack lasts until you get the first musketmen infantry, around 1550.

But since the technological development is significantly slowlier in the Middle East and Asia, you will see the eastern sprites longer than the western counterpart.

Significantly better than standard unit sprites and therefore totally worth the 2$!

Europa Universalis III : Eastern - Anno Domini 1400 Sprite Pack review

By avien posted 26th June 2011

Is this worth 2$? The answer is, it depends. If you look at the value you get for those two bucks, it's not much, even at the price. The textures look nice, but chances are, if you are the type of gamer that play Paradox's games, you're not playing for the graphics anyway.

But if, like me, you are a hardcore EUIII player, who spend hours upon hours on this game, then it might not matter so much. Because the value you already got from the main game seems so great, that you might as well sponsor Paradox a little more and get some new shiny swordsmen on the bargain.

Conclusion: Only a must for Paradox fanatics.

These sprites are awesome and feel much more historical, when starting a campaign in 1399 (especially when compared to the halberd guys...)
