18 Wheels of Steel Extreme Trucker makes a welcomed return with this sequel. Like the original, the aim is to deliver a variety of cargoes, over various treacherous terrains. The basics remain the same as the first game, with your progress through region specific ranks being dependant on your ability to deliver loads within the given time limit while avoiding as much damage as possible.
The experience however, has been improved and expanded upon. In addition to the addition of two new locations, the sizes of the original three locations have been increased, opening up new routes within those regions. Along with this comes the additional requirement of refuelling during certain deliveries.
An optional in-game map, something that was sorely missing from the original, is also provided, thus eliminating the need to constantly pause the game to check your route, a problem that could hinder enjoyment in the first Extreme Trucker. Another welcome addition is the ability to play your own MP3 files via the in game radio which is perfect for the longer deliveries. The handling of the trucks in some regions also feels as if it has been tweaked so that certain dangerous terrain should now pose a risk to driving.
Like the original, there is no need to worry about accurate parking your load on completion of a delivery, simply drive to the marker shown. Because of this, the Extreme Trucker games are a brilliant introductory game for people who are interested in trying a truck simulator without the hassle of parking which is all to present in other similar games, including earlier entries in the 18 Wheels of Steel series. The improvements and changes compared to the original also ensure that owners of that game will not be disappointed with this one.
All in all, if you’re looking for a new truck simulator game, Extreme Trucker 2 is highly recommended.
