Dungeon Siege 3 review

If you don’t mind these moral issues and lacking multiplayer there’s a solid single player campaign here. Since it’s only twenty hours long, I don’t recommend paying full price for this game. It’s obviously a console port so consider grabbing a controller or just go for the console version if improved PC graphics aren't important to you. I haven't tried the new patch, so that may help somewhat. It looks like there will be downloadable content available for it. Depending on the price I may check that out.

Can you go lower than a 1? WOW! Obsidian, you've doing it again, taken a perfectly fun RPG series and turned it into total useless crap! Don't bother with this game unless you're only RPG experience is on a game console.

I would like to know who at Obsidian thinks this kind of crap is what people will buy? Is there some senior management type that only likes to play this type of useless crap? And why do they all turn out the same? I would imagine there would be some improvement, but this is worse then Never Winter Nights 2 (reminder, HUGE flop).

I take that back, actually Obsidian, you've done an excellent job of purchasing very successful game series, and pulling a con job on all those waiting for the next release. Like I said, you've destroyed YET ANOTHER successful RPG series. Pretty soon, people will get sick of the crap you release and just stop buying it. Had I known in advance this was part of and Obsidian series, I would not have bought it.

*Note-to-self* Boycott all Obsidian games, they clearly can't *CREATE* any good RPG's so they steal successful ones by underbidding the incumbent designer and turning the series into another RPG clone (i.e. FLOP).

Im glad to once again play a dungeon siege game, it still have the feeling and the simplicity i remember from the first and second DS games.

That said i wont give it full score due to the fact that they have more or less removed the party you had i single player game before. only having two caracters is not what I had expectet from them after uppgraiding eerything else so nicely.

The storyline is awsome tho, restoring the legion is a nice and really entertainging story and all the lore from the older games are still in there to put a golden ege on this allready great game.

Unfortunately the Dungeon Siege series has taken a further step towards a more simplified game targetted towards more casual console gaming.

Where previous iterations of the game featured an open classless system to new game rigidly applies set character archetypes for use by the player with each having, at best limited individual customisation. For example, the fighter class uses sword and shield/2-handed swords with no variation and no real freedom to specialise in one or the other. Theoretically with such class limitations this should open the story telling possibilities with individual character stories - however this does not substantially occur with each players perspective essentially remaining the same. Arguably this could be a novel way of simply deciding on 4 'classes' however the further imposed restrictions on set weapon and armour pieces leave the gamer trying to awkwardly fit themselves into their assigned role - somewhat uncomfortably.

From a perspective as a console hack and slash it works well - if you have a controller pad. Use of the traditional mouse and keyboard is, at best, unpleasant. To play the game a console style controller is essential.

The graphics are quite good though the in-game cutscenes (particularly as seen in the first act in the manor) do not fit well and stand out as being out of place or dated.

Though offering some choice of order the game feels quite linear without the opportunities - especially as present in the first iteration - to freely explore.

Overall, as a console style hack and slash its quite reasonable fare. As a further step and follow up to the previous dungeon siege titles - it is a step back and devotees of the previous titles are likely to feel somewhat patronized by this iteration.
