Deus Ex: Human Revolution ™ The Missing Link review

A must-have DLC that's closer to a mini expansion than what you regularly consider "DLC" - get it while it's on sale if you can, but it's worth the full price tag.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution - The Missing Link review

By NaarPrime posted 9th April

This DLC is almost totally standalone - the setup for the action is you being placed in cryosleep, but it doesn't have much to do with what you end up doing. The story and action are strong and there are some fun achievements to try to earn along the way. The boss fight section in particular is how it should have been done in the main game. I got about five hours of fun out of it and felt it was worth what I paid for it.

Fills in the story gap nicely, lets you play around with new customizations for a short story - well worth it! =)

a good side-story that tie's well within the game. would suggest to those that bought HR to get what they are missing from the core game. but not essential to the storyline.

Great DLC , Does not bring a lot of things to the core gameplay but adds a really good side story with an improved boss battle better than any on the original game.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution ™ The Missing Link review

By punisox posted 30th March

While The Missing Link doesn't have the same movement stutter as the main game, that is the only thing it does better. Story seems to lack something, and the game is rather short. Still worth buying, as is gives insight on what happened during one point at the main game.

It's a great way to try out the Deus Ex game without paying for the full retail game - since this is standalone DLC and doesn't require the actual game. It also won't spoil a *ton* of the main story line. All in all it's a little buggy, you can't import your old saves into it, etc, but it's definitely worth a couple bucks and will yield a few hours of game play.

This is a nice DLC mission pack, but it is a shame that it does not use your existing Deus Ex HR character. Even though it is set approximately halfway through the full game, the character abilities you get bear little resemblance to my main character at roughly the same point. Worth the money as it is a surprisingly difficult mission pack, but it would have been nice to have used the same character.

A solid product. The Missing Link is both much more polished than the original game and includes a very compelling story. The only downside is that there aren't any hubs to roam through and only very few people to talk to. Hopefully this won't be the only mini-expansion they'll release.

In Typical dlc fashion its a worse money to gametime ratio then the regular game but its fun and great for people who want to spec into something different.

You can try the opposite build that you used in your campaign for example.

Stealth is alittle harder this time :)

Deus Ex: Human Revolution ™ The Missing Link review

A nice piece of DLC, although it was really short at around 5 hours and felt kind of tacked on to the rest of the Human Revolution story.

Playing the boss battle with a stealth build was really satisfying!

I just love the Deus Ex world and gameplay.

You really feel like you can change what is happening. The first game was definitely better, but Human Revolution has to be one of the best games in 2011. The Missing Link is just more of the same! I really enjoyed the hours this expansion gave me, and I am really looking forward to a fourth game in this series.

Great expansion. It's basically a standalone that lasts around 5-7 hours. They finally fixed boss fights, where instead of having to fight the bosses straight up, there are alternative routes. I wish they implemented in the actual game itself, otherwise Missing Link is worth the purchase

Deus Ex: Human Revolution ™ The Missing Link review

By raf66r posted 12th March

Although I really loved Deus Ex: Human Revolution (will refer to as DX:HR from now on), I felt that The Missing Link was very weak and lacking on a lot. Objectively speaking, this is what The Missing Link is - It's a 5 hour segment not included in DX:HR and is almost completely stripped off its RPG elements, leaving behind just a shooter gameplay. The reason I say it was stripped off the RPG elements is because there isn't much of multiple customizations and directions as there were in DX:HR. You start from scratch, i.e. without the items you've had and with all your augmentations reset. Throughout you get only a few praxis points, most of which are given to you in the second half of the game, causing me to continuously ask "To what end am I getting these praxis points? The game is nearly finished". And on top of that, there are no new additions. You still have the shooter gameplay, with taking cover, hacking, takedowns, etc, so the game is still relatively entertaining. Players who are into stealthy gameplay would enjoy this more than the trigger-happy tanks since stealth is more encouraged in this DLC than it did in DX:HR. The storyline doesn't really bring with itself any mindblowing revelations and twists, but it does manage to be moderately interesting, especially having a cameo appearance from one of the characters from the first Deus Ex game. The game gets better and more intense closer to the end, and you are even required to make a very difficult decision, providing you with two slightly different endings. So it might be worth replaying the last half hour of the game again just to see the outcomes of both decisions. So taking all the above points into account, The Missing Link is all right, but it greatly pales compared to the DX:HR, and its original price is way too high. I got it during a Steam sale for £3, which is a much more appropriate price for it.

A nice little almost stand alone DLC which adds 4-to-7 hours depending on your style/skill. ML is sort of side story and not needed at all for the main game, however if you liked the game you will most likely like this. All and All, a nice addon but not worth full price, get on sale. NOTE: being a streamworks title you just get a key to redeem in your stream client after buying from GG.

This is a very good expansion. It is not too short, and also fixes the bosses and other minor flaws from the main game.

A great "addition" to the game (it's basically cut content), it's quite lengthy, with more varied missions (some more creative than the base game) and various graphical improvements.

An average DLC on normal playthrough but shows its beauty when played using no Praxis kits, weapons, or explosives [Factory Zero achievement]. Recommended!

Expansion to the main game. For the low price of 10 bucks, you'll get around 6 hour of exiting gameplay. Not relly as good as the main game, but still very good!

Very good, high quality expansion to already great Deus Ex: Human Revolution. I recommand it to anyone who's interested in Deus Ex. It adds additional episode to the story (approximately 5h of gameplay).

a great way to play deus ex human revolution even after you beat your game. this dlc explain some "missing" days near the end of the game which eventually didn't manage to explain more than what the core game has offered. however, this dlc proves to give you some challenge due to the fact that Jensen couldn't use his augmentation early in the game which turns quite exciting. also there are new achievement for all of you achievement-hunter :)

A DLC that adds about 4-5 hours of gameplay.

It's fun to play but I can't say it immerses you into it as good as the rest of the game and it's not that deep and meaningful as the rest.

Still, it's worth it.

It's one of the best DLC's I've played. In moments its better than the original game. The only problem (if it's a problem) is its duration, only 5-6 hours.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution ™ The Missing Link review

By chuckie001 posted 8th March

In this addon, you follow Adam through the part of the adventure that was only hinted at in the main game. It looks like the developers always intended to publish this as a separate piece of content, but it still adds a few hours of interesting gameplay, and is ties some loose ends -- so if you liked the game, I'd say it's worth it.

Bad thing, the price is a bit high for a DLC with only several hours of mission.

Good thing, you have a few more wonderful hours of Deus Ex experience coming ahead. After finishing this pack, you won't regret the money you've spent on it.

THough the game is superb in my opinion, the fact that it isn't integrated into the game makes it a bit of a letdown. After finishing off the game, and maxing out several of the abilities, you then start off with a weak character again, just feels wrong.

Adds several hours of decent gameplay even though it feels it was gutted from the main game. A must buy for fans of the series.

Another solid ~5 hours of DX:HR. Doesn't introduce any new mechanics, and a city hub would've been nice, but allows you to respec from scratch and try a different approach than your character in the main quest. A good example of DLC that would've disrupted the flow of the story if it had been included in the base game but works well on its own.

Fun expansion, but the original is better

By Thulfiqaar posted 6th February

It will give you a few hours more to play with an ok story line and some fun action. It basically takes place in between the Deus Ex the human revolution's story. Adds a bit of extra content. Still fun and if you enjoyed the game then you will still enjoy this one as well but not as much as to original game.

A DLC mission that gives you a chance to experiment with augmentations, and makes all of them feel useful, a fun and gripping story too!

Deus Ex: Human Revolution ™ The Missing Link review

By metavital posted 2nd January

A worthy DLC to an already excellent action/RPG hybrid title. This add-on's gameplay is more focused on stealth and survival in claustrophobic, confined spaces filled with narrow corridors. Although it feels a little short, The Missing Link is still an enjoyable refresher filling in the hole within the main title's storyline.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution ™ The Missing Link review

By thingy1 posted 31st December 2011

Missing Link's timeline takes place near the end of Human Revolution, so it is quite important that you complete the game before playing this. The Missing Link does appear in your game's main menu as a standalone episode, but you'd be fairly lost in the game's story if you start here.

It’s great to have an opportunity to revisit Deus Ex: Human Revolution, and The Missing Link is a substantial, tense and exciting piece of DLC. It presents a stiff challenge and a great sub-plot alongside the opportunity to experiment with a different playstyle.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution ™ The Missing Link review

By iUberGeek posted 30th December 2011

This DLC surpasses the quality of the main game, and even gives the chance to respec Jensen to try a wholly different style of play. With around 5-6 hours of gameplay, this is a good value for money.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution ™ The Missing Link review

By FreedomEX posted 23rd December 2011

Pretty much the same Deus Ex formula; do as you see fit by sneaking or go all out. Besides having a story to follow they have also included some side missions so you will get your worth out of this. The level design and voice acting is still as impressive as the first along with odd creepy moments in the DLC. The end of the level fight is also an improvement in my opinion since not really a typical boss fight like in the main game (I won't spoil it anymore than this =p).

Although there are lots of back tracking and not much variation in the background (recycling) as your kind of stuck in one place and the AI is still not fixed. The pros really greater than the cons, well worth your money.

Nice DLC that give you more story to play. Would have been nice if it was a bit cheaper. Get this still as it is fun. You will need the main game to play.
