I am a huge fan of the Company of Heroes series. There are great open settings with destructible terrain, large unit selection, plenty of enemies to kill, great unit control. I just like everything about the game and most of all the strategy involved.

This little masterpieceis everything you want in a real-time strategy. I wasn't a fan of RTS before this gem came out--now I can't wait for the expansion pack that will offer more maps to play single player skirmishes... and perhaps even, weeeeee... a map editor!

The graphics are simply out of this world. I found myself watching a streetfight between the axis and allies and noticing that down there on the cobblestones was a broken piano. It's beautiful little touches like this that makes a game so remarkable. In fact there is all types of debris in the game, all types of house models, so much stuff that I can't wait to see each next map. The game is simply a delight to look at.

The AI really does run for cover, especially when there is a tank or a big gun shooting at them. If not--if they feel confident enough that they can take their adversary--they will stand boldy where they are, not bothering to take cover. I think, dare I say it, each little man has his own personality and will take cover when choosing to do so.

The campain is fun to watch. The game works like a first person shooter, but when the story stops and you get dropped into it, it pulls you back so that you can view the entire battlefield and have control over everything.

I can't belive how fun this game is. I never thought I'd get into a video game like this again, especially an RTS. The only reason why I gave it a less than perfect score was because they didn't provide a map editor. With a map editor, it would have been perfect.

And another thing... Why can't the allies or axis build trenches??? ... I want trenches!

Do yourself a favor and buy this game. It's worth every penny and more.

From Relic, makers of Homeworld and Dawn of War series, comes Company of Heroes, an RTS game that caught gamers by surprise in 2006. With cover mechanics (which are very important if you want your soldiers to live), an advanced physics system that allows you to level everything on the map (buildings can also be garrisoned) and a mechanic borrowed from an old strategy called Z: strategy points control, CoH was (and still is) a fresh experience at the time of release.

The game offers a story driven campaign (and it's pretty long), rich multiplayer with a big community that is still active, modding tools (and a huge modding community) and it's a great experience overall. If you like WWII strategies(well, if you like RTSs in general), you can't go wrong with CoH, one of the best RTS games of all time.

I'd first played this a number of years back and it still has a great 're-playablity' factor. It has a very original approach to RTS games which is highly realistic, incredibly fun and really draws you in making you feel very much in control. Multiplayer is fantastic also with excellent ranking system. Highly recommended.

Definitely a very fun little RTS. It's nice to look at and the pace of gameplay is right in the sweet spot. It's not so fast you don't have time to react and not too slow, either. Unlike similar looking games like Blitzkrieg or Theatre of War, this is a basebuilder and the different sides and build paths give you a lot of variety in gameplay to keep you coming back. It's definitely an arcade game, not be be confused with its more realistic cousins. The gameplay is rock/paper/scissors style where, for example, you use tanks against infantry, anti tank guns against tanks and infantry against anti tank guns. It's fairly well balanced, although some of the included maps tend to favor one play style over another. Definitely worth picking up with one of the expansions to get access to the different units.

Rich (hi)story brought to life in a way that most RTS don't accomplish. The story drives all the way into terrain details, unit scatter, and believable voice acting. -1 star because it unfortunately suffers from the THQ trend of not-quite-debugged games (a la TitanQuest). There are some missions that simply bomb if units are in the wrong place, but in scope of the entire CoH franchise, definitely worth $10-$15.

This is my favorite RTS of ww2 the game play in vanilla COH is a bit lacking but the mod community for this game is huge and there are several mods that make this game extreme value for money. The campaigns are great and are well developed in terms of plot.

CoH is perhaps the best and most thought-through WW2-RTS game out there. In theory, there's limitless posibillities to the campaigns and theatres that the game could encompass, with possibly a host of expansions or simply new maps.

Small details, such as piling sand-bags, laying mines, barbed wire etc. gives the player a multitude of options regarding style of play and adds some realism that is often amiss in other games of this type, such as laying "traps" in the form of a consolidated AT-gun flanking the approach of enemy tanks etc.

CoH is Highly recommended for RTS and/or WW2 fans.

An excellent strategy game of its time that more than compares to similar titles. Although the gameplay mechanics are a bit different, the game eases you into them until they are quickly second nature. All in all 4/5.

Do yourself a favour and try it out before you think it's just like any other WW2 title. It is miles ahead of the competition, super graphic and a great XP system. The campaigns are not boring to play again because you can try so many different tactics.

The Company of Heroes Series is one of (if not the) best War RTS games on the market. You can command hundreds of men to do various tasks, such as attacking specific units, capturing points, building defences, etc. The game is incredibly detailed as far as the different commands. Furthermore, the games graphics are of a high quality, making for a great gameplay experience. however, high settings may lag the game, but you can adjust these to your system preference. You can play as the Americans or germans, and each has three different rewards systems that can be gained from getting XP. You can command infantry, armor, light vehicles, anti-tank and anti-air weapons, as well as call in off-map airstrikes. Simply a fantastic game. no detail has been overlooked and i give it an overall rating of 9.8 out of 10.

Unlike a typical RTS you can't fall into the boring "build lots of troops, attack in mass" but have to work with the map, plan your defence positions and plan the priorities for capturing strategic points. Unit limit is always less than you'd like so you have to plan your "army structure" and take more care of your troops than in a typical RTS.

A big plus is destructible buildings and terrain. You actually see towns torn to pieces and soldiers taking cover in houses or artillery craters.

There are also some RPG elements to help with your style but its much less than I would have liked to.

The story is a bit loosely coupled with action, but has a decent WWII theme. Pre-mission briefings are well done, with concise authoritative voice over strategic map.

It is not the newest game on the market but it still looks good. Just wait for 88s or 105s to strike, zoom in and enjoy the destruction.

I'm usually not a big fan of RTS but CoH was a worthy buy.

Wonderful game.

Summary:

A different flavor in gameplay and strategy when compared to "classic" RTS like AOE. Very exciting and refreshing.

Visuals:

Wonderful explosion and particle effects. You can have wonderful graphics if you computer can handle it. You wont be disappointed.

Sound:

Music very appropriate for the game. Not so many epic themes but it does the job. As for Special effects, they are awesome. There is nothing more hair standing than hearing the distant gunshots and explosions of your troops battling from afar.

Gameplay:

It differs from classical RPGs. Resource gathering is done by capturing territories, this allows for a different experience when planning and executing your strategy. Your units are more versatile and have to be micromanaged instead of global orders. A refreshing turn.

Conclussion:

If you like RPGs you want this game. The main appeal of the game may come as a bad thing for gamers who like slow pace with base building and resource gathering. Even so, give it a try and experience another flavor of RTS.

If I could use one word to describe tis game, it would be innovative. There is no need of gathering resources. You just have to control as many strategic points as possible. You have to plan you move carefully, to gain more territory/resources. Another nice feature is selection of game style. Each fraction has 3 deferent doctrines, for example USA has infantry division, armored division and airborne division. Each has it's strong and weak points, so you have to choose one which is best for your style and strategy. Another good feature is possibility to damage enemy vehicles (destroy main gun, engine ect.) and pick up weapons by infantry such as mortars, machine-guns, anti-tank guns, rpgs ect.

Now weak points. The biggest is that there is only two fractions, it is not very much, even 3 doctrines do not help co cover it. I think that the view of the battlefield is to close, but it is my personal filling.

To sum up, it is very decent RTS game, another Relict RTS Warhammer40k: Dawn of War follows this minimal base and territory as resource style showing that it is good way to put some fresh air into RTS genre. For me 5/5.

Great game when playing the AI in some quick skirmishes or battles on a Saturday morning for a couple of hours, but the campaign story starts to drag to the point I stopped a little over half way through. I actually like the first Dawn of War better than Company of Heroes and if you don't mind fantasy units, it might be a better buy for you.
