Civilization V: Civilization Pack: Babylon (Nebuchadnezzar II) review

By PenguinJim posted 13th November 2012

Babylon was included with the Limited Edition Civ V release, and taken in isolation, it's clear to see that the additions it makes to the game are minor.

The scenarios are relatively interesting but hardly necessary. The civilization itself is a nice addition to the full game (and one of the better civilizations, IMO), but again, hardly necessary.

However, while it's easy enough to skip this little pack, who would be reading this review except somebody wanting more Civ V DLC? And stacked against the alternatives, this is the second-best DLC pack available, not to mention being fairly priced (in sales, at least!).

So my advice is to buy the superior Viking pack first, and then pick up this one if you need a little more civ in your Civilization.

I really enjoy playing as Babylon, they are a very scientific Civ, geared towards Tech victory. They're 2 specials are good for early defence, bowmen are just mean in the early game, and the Walls of Babylon improve defence and city attack damage, it makes them great for having a strong science city that is very well defended, all in all i recommendatory getting them.

I like playing as the Babylonians. They are a very different civ and it can be difficult to play as them. This is one of the best expansions for Civ V, yet. If you want a step up in the difficulty of the game by changing the way you HAVE to play to win, give the Babylonians a try.

Babylon is a very cool civ, and I bought all the DLCs just because I felt like playing as Babylon. Its an interesting play, and pretty much brought the game back to life for me. The Walls of Babylon doesn't seem very useful to my play style, but otherwise, very nice.

This civilization is great for single player aiming for a science victory. The 50% off future great science makes research quick. Also getting a free Great scientist after discovering writing can give you a boost against other civilization.

The only down side is when you play online, the benefits you get make it an uneven civ to play against other players

Babylon is one of the most powerful civilisations in the game and makes its extremly easy to beat anyone to a science victory thanks to the free great scientists when you discover writing and a 50% discount on great scientists. The other units of this civ also complement the science victory as both are defensive units, one a powerful archer and the other a powerful wall. These units allow the civ to heavily fortify its cities and concentrate on increasing and protecting its science output.

A much needed Civ if you want to win via science.

Easily one of the most overpowered civilizations in Civilization 5. As Nebuchadnezzar II, you get a great scientist at the discovery of writing, and thus get an awesome science boost compared to others civs(which leads to better chance at completing wonders etc). A good civ for higher difficulties because of the special unit (archer) and building (wall). This is THE civ for science victory.

This is a great Civilisation for anyone pursuing a Science victory.

Nebuchanezzar gives you a free Great Scientist & a 50% discount on further Grest Scientists.

Both the unique unit & building give you a defensive boost to fend off those trying to stop you.
