Command & Conquer 4 Tiberian Twilight

Rating: 3.5 (40 votes cast)

Behold disciples of Nod, for the end is soon upon us. Electronic Arts' award-winning and best-selling Tiberium saga is coming to a powerful conclusion with Command & Conquer 4, which will introduce a multitude of innovations to the classic fast and fluid Command & Conquer gameplay, while retaining the core compulsions that fans have come to love over the series' history.

It is the year 2062 and humanity is at the brink of extinction. Tiberium, the mysterious, alien crystalline structure that has infested Earth for decades and served as the primary reason for years of relentless conflict between the Global Defense Initiative (GDI) and the Brotherhood of Nod, is close to rendering the planet uninhabitable. Mankind is on the verge of extinction when Kane, Nod's prophetic leader, emerges from seclusion to deliver GDI the message that he has developed a system that could control Tiberium and harness its power. But he cannot build this "Tiberium Control Network" without GDI's cooperation. Thus, the two opposing factions – GDI and Nod – inevitably find themselves in desperation for the same cause: to stop Tiberium from extinguishing mankind.

After 15 years, the network is nearly complete, Tiberium is under strict control and our revitalized, newly terraformed planet is on the cusp of a new age of prosperity and progress. It is then that the world's citizens begin to seriously ponder why Kane chose to help, and what will he want in return. These questions and more lead to the dramatic final act of the Tiberium saga.

With a multitude of innovative new features to the fast and fluid C&C gameplay, Command & Conquer 4 offers players an entirely new way to play C&C. An all-in-one mobile base, persistent player progression across all game modes that is constantly updated in a real-time online profile, a 3-class system for each of the two factions, co-operative play, and a 5v5 objective-based multiplayer mode that promotes teamwork and social interaction, make Command & Conquer 4 unlike any other C&C experience.

Not Your Average C&C

By mm_frnt posted 21st Dec 2011

Being a big fan of the original style of game play, and owning almost every C&C title, I have to admit that I was very disappointed in this game. While it has some really nice features and is really well put together in places, the overall experience reminds me of a hectic, fancy mobile tower defense game.

The amount of information thrown at you in short periods of time adds to the frustration as well. For example, the fast pace of many missions gives the game some flavor away from simply (harvest/turtle/attack), as previous titles. But it adds to the frustration when you take into account the absolutely horrible and over complex user interface.

Overall, the game was a nice attempt to breath new life into a long standing and popular title. But in my opinion fell flat on it's face.

The old stand by, tried and true, formula for Command & Conquer was tossed out for this title in favor of a new mechanic. As a long time fan of the series I did not like it myself, but I did play through simply to see the end of the story. Sadly the results of the story were terrible.

Despite all this, when you look at the game as another title and NOT Command & Conquer it's alright. I had fun with it on many occasions and even reached the maximum rank. If this game was under any other name I might rank it higher, but it used a title I was devoted to for so many years.

This is the worst game in the serie. It's a completely different gaming style than the others and it's bad! And the graphics are not credible at all. Tanks look like toys...

C&C's departure from traditional RTS gameplay! What a troubled and ill-received change was this: half the fan base was already disapproving of the change and the other half which had some hope of the product ended delusioned all the same and returned the game days after getting it or left it to rot on the shelf.

I, for one, think that this game does not deserve that.

While not a die hard fan of the series, I loved the way Tiberium Wars worked... it was just superb. And when EA announced a sequel I was dying to know how it would turn out: Kane's fate as well as that of Earth was something that couldn't wait to be unraveled! Yet I must admit that at first I felt "what the hell's this?" but then I realized that the game has potential... even if not really properly realized it really has some good things that've been overlooked by many.

First and foremost the gameplay: It's good... pretty good actually. Yes, it's got nothing to do with previous C&C. Yes, it does feel more like anything that doesn't bear the Command & Conquer franchise name. And yes, it's something you've played before... Still, it feels somewhat fresh, if not really massive. It could have used some "epicness", but it's cool nonetheless.

Graphics are ok... not killer graphics, but they do their job.

Sound and music, as with most C&C, rock! While not as memorable as Red Alert 3's Soviet March, the game does pack some memorable tunes which you'll be humming for some days.

Finally, the plot is... OK... though I would have expected something better for the Tiberium finale.

All in all.. 3/5.

A dissapointment. I suppose I shouldnt be writing a review for this since i havent played it for more then a couple hours but that is how i feel about it. I grew up with the simple command and conquers which allowed you to build a base and gather resources. This game however takes all that away and just goes straight into battles which are very limited as it is. Seems mainly like an online game since it is based around player statistics and promotions. Not satisfied.

Unlike the previous C&C games where players build massive base and forces for victory, C&C4 puts a limit to the amount of troops and installations, emphasizing the importance of strategically combined forces. The player is given a single mobile base called "crawler" to construct all the troops, vehicles and planes needed, and different classes of crawler allow you to build different units and use different tactics.

Although the single player campaign is short and leave the story unfinished (as always), the multi-player part is fun (since the objective is no longer to create a bigger army but a better combined one, and the right strategy plays a much bigger role in deciding the victor because of this).

Tiberian Twilight is the last and final part of the Command and conquer tiberium saga. I really expected this game despite of the bad reviews as I have always enjoyed C&C games.

The technical aspects of the game are quite good, although the graphics and models of units resemble those of the Red Alert series rather than those from other tiberium installments. However, the gameplay aspects of the game cannot match those of previous games. All the base building system has been eliminated in favor of a system closer to that of Dawn of War 2, more based on tactical aspects and units management than on collecting resources and building management. Single player campaign is quite plain, without much of the tacky humorous acting from previous games. Nonetheless, the multiplayer aspect of the game is quite outstanding and fun.
