Battlepaths

Rating: 4 (100 votes cast)

Battlepaths is a loot-centric and addictive 2D-RPG featuring neat monster hacking, an excellent loot system, and great variety in character development. Learn skills, use powerfull potions, and hunt down the Chaos Overlord. The battle begins in Babatula, the first of three big realms to explore.

Battlepaths offers a sophisticated drop system that generates countless different items along with more than 50 unique items. The character customization allows you to create a unique hero with its own strengths and weaknesses. You can build a heavy, damage dealing tank, a deadly ninja that utilizes high speed and agility to attack his victims from out of nowhere, a true master of mind who crushes his foes with powerful combinations of special abilities, or something in between.

You can choose to play in different realms that each have their own landscape and their own set of creatures. The many superior items you will find can be exchanged between different characters, one of which will eventually become the first powerful enough to face the Chaos Overlord.

Prepare yourself for Battlepaths!

Nice and simple

By cwerner78 posted 6th January

Great game for this price! Yeah, combat is extremely simplified, but battles get more and more challenging. You won't remotely be able to win the harder battles without carefully planning your next action. You DO have several options. The character development is fun. It's just one character, Rick, but you can build him in many different ways. In fact, I just restarted with a new character to make a nice speed build. You'll find a couple of references to Diablo, most notably the village music which is just great. And the loot system is much like in Diablo, too.

So if you are interested in a little roguelike/RPG you shouldn't hesitate a second and buy that game and at least give it a try. Don't expect a cutting-edge RPG, but who does at this price? It's so easy to pick up and it's just satisfying when you find your first great item, summon your first ally or finally defeated that big Uber Ogre. Also, it easily plays 20+ hours and has great replay value.

Very simplistic game, enjoyable if you are looking for a very simplistic and dated RPG. It's "turn based" but don't let this fool you into thinking there is any element of strategy to this game. When you enter a dungeon or are fighting other characters the game becomes choppy as every time you move your character it is calculating it is as a move. Imagine Zelda only slower and less fun! There is also eight million drops in this game (literally eight million, I did the math) so you are constantly running back to town to sell your items. The graphics are very cartoonish, and the sound effects are pretty cheesy. Also when comparing items the interface is kind of sloppy so it's not as easy as it should be. Overall, I give this game a big meh. Good if you want to spend ten minutes and never play again.

This game is definitely worth its price(1.99), but not much more. The graphics are ok, so is the gameplay(although fights are turnbased), but the small inventory space and the kind of repeating quests are 2 major turn-offs. Overall a great concept with the potential for more, but more of a casual game than one which you may play seriously.

I didn't play this very long but it was an ok RPG which didn't seem to have much depth. Coffee break game. Many of the free online RPGs which are plentiful nowadays match this one, and many are better.

Obviously one major benefit of this game is its extremely low cost. My first time playing it I thought it was "ok" but I liked it more the second time I played it when I realized that monsters do respawn. The graphics are actually quite charming and while cartoonish they definitely work.

You will get over this game but I've played multiple sessions of it and have definitely gotten my money's worth. My biggest complaint is that it seems as if one of the possible equipment stats - a percentage bonus to defense - does not give such bonus (possible bug). I would really like to see a $5 version of this game (I payed 0.99) that is much more in depth.

Battlepaths is 2D-RPG featuring neat monster hacking with an excellent loot system with different realms that each have their own landscape and their own set of creatures, lots of poweful items to use at your own will against waves of enemies who will try to stop you at all cost, the character customization allows you to create a unique hero with its own strengths and weaknesses, from full DPS to tank also it's awesome price on GamersGate it's a steal since on other store will cost much more, plus right now it's on Greenlight, meaning if dev is able to you get a Steam key, you won't regret buying it.

More than meets the eye

By Wolfborn posted 8th December 2012

Battlepaths is more than meets the eye-- behind a cartoony look where the hero's look never changes no matter what you equip him with lies an addicting turn-based loot fest. There are 5 attributes you can level up and each one of them plays a big role, which allows you to play in several different ways (from high damage output to quick and precise to relying on your skills). The aforementioned loot is not only great, but also abundant and fans of Diablo-like games will have a field day comparing stats (I know I did).

The turn-based combat allows for some simple, yet satisfying tactical manoeuvres and once you start playing this, prepare to be grabbed.

At this price, you'd be a fool not to buy this!

Basically a simple, cartoonish Diablo 1 style game. The combat and graphics are very extremely simplified, but conversations with NPCs are humorous and with this style of game, it's always just "one more battle" to see what loot turns up.

I buy a lot of low priced, low GHZ games. This was a pleasant surprise. I, too got it on sale, after watching the gameplay on Youtube. I am 2/3 of the way into the game and I have enjoyed it greatly. It is a simple game, enemies increase in speed and strength along the way. When you die, you lose 10% of your cash (50% of which you'll find near where you died) and some experience. You will die.

The main challenge is that the heal spells are gradual, not providing a big hit, so you can be overwhelmed by multiple opponents if you realize you're in trouble too late.

The loot is great, which armor or weapon or amulet best compliments your character.

This round it appears to be a ninja with high speed and dexterity.

The game does not get in it's own way. I am having fun. I hope you do too!

Slowinput, but fun game for 1$!

By RitchieSxD92 posted 29th November 2012

The game has a little slow input on keyboard/mouse. I cant test how this is on a controller, but I think that will be way better.

The game itself is quite fun and I had a few hours of fun with it.

Overal, I think its a pretty fun game, but the input should be fixed.

Great game, I had fun during my first hour playing it. I will have more fun in the future, since this has a ton of replay value to it. They promise 25+ hours of gameplay, and I think they just may be right.

It looks like a very simple and cheap game.

Might be on the outside, but the graphic style is something different from all the "high quality" graphics people want in their games.

It feels a tad like a diablo / rougelike game.

The game is straightforward for new people or people that would just have an idea about how.

wow... i paid 1$ for this game on sale and it was worth about 10 times that. its a charming roguelike rpg with an almost diabloesque loot system. it also supports the 360 controller natively! it is NOT visually mind blowing or anything, but i have never seen a roguelike that is so that shouldnt matter. its comical and thats what its supposed to be, not cutting edge. i downloaded, installed, launched, and instantly knew what to do, i didnt really need the tutorial at all.

really cool little game, kudos to the creators.
