It was difficult not to give Borderlands a 5-star rating just for its entertainment and replay value. It is more hack n' slash and "light-hearted" than Fallout 3 / Vegas and not nearly as robust an FPS/RPG hybrid game. It is HOWEVER, one of the most fun-addictive FPS games on the market, particularly in co-op mode (5-stars).

Borderlands makes a good choice for people who do not want a lot of commands to learn/use while maintaining substantial choice and variety of weapons and armaments. The weapon physics are decent as is the AI (3 1/2 stars -- though limited and repetitive /spawns) Leveling up is not a grind, for it progresses at a decent pace and can be tailored to one's taste, without being overwhelming in scope. (4 1/2 stars)

Soundtrack/effects, RPG elements, graphics and GUI all deserve 3.7 to 4 stars *in context with the game overall.* It is not an EPIC game: It is a shooter that is fun to play.

Last, but not least, if like buzzing around in a buggy/armored vehicle, this feature alone adds considerable content for fans.

I waited a long time to play Borderlands and am still enthusiastically getting more than my money's worth. Given that you can level up to 90 (I believe), and the overall replay value, (single or co-op), one could easily find 200-400 hours of entertainment value here. That said one could blitz though the game in about 30-40 hours (estimated).

Very good game if you like a single player shooter with some added humour, but the coop is very buggy and can really put you off the game.

I wouldn't buy this game just because someone else did to play with them, you'll be frustrated endlessly by the inability to play coop for the most random reasons.

Most addictive game I've played this generation of gaming. I've played and beaten both playthroughs with each of the four characters. Sucks no DLC on GG, but the game is well worth it even without the DLC. Don't expect monumental graphics or an epic story from this game though. You can expect to laugh a bit from the humor in the game, especially from the Claptrap.

Borderlands is something more than just a FPS game. RPG/Hack'n'slash elements makes it an unique gaming experiance. I never played something like this before and I recommend it to everyone that seeks for something new and likes FPS games.

You may be a little bit overwhelmed with all the stats, exp, abilities and things like that, but the game teches you step by step all about it, and soon after starting the game you basically know everything that you need to know.

Borderlands is very good just as a shooter. Thanks to the RPG elements you want to play it more and more, level up and find interesting guns. Enemies are interesting, and all have some weak spots. Boss fights are very cool but sometimes there are a little hard. First playthrough lasts about 30 hours and its still not boring. There are 4 characters and everyone has unique abilities. Only thing that is not that good in this game is driving vehicles. Your car can stuck at little rocks and you have to back up and drive around it. And you have to use your mouse to turn (you need some time to get used to it).

The graphics are a matter of taste, I think. I don't like them too much, but I heard many good opinions about it. This game is well optimalized. It runs on weaker PC's. I played it on a 2 year old laptop. and it was almost on max details.

Too bad that with this version no DLC will work:( but I hope that gamersgate staff will do something with it in the future.

Borderlands is a unique game that every fan of shooters should try out.

FPS game with touches of RPG very well done, in the sense of the diverse style of play, since certain classes have certain game modes.

Graphic style very good, very well thought out.

I just thought the game could have a little more fancy in the introduction, it is kind of hard to understand the game at first, but with time and perseverance to become a great game.

Fantastic game

I was totally psyched about this game, I watched videos, read forums, looked at screen shots, you name it, I did it. I'm glad to say that I was not disappointed, at least. Borderlands is filled with amazing guns, some of which I literally laughed manically to the sight of what was left in their wake (body parts and loot). Add on some hysterically devious grenade mods and incredibly helpful class modifiers, and you have yourself a full blown RPG-Shooter.

Borderlands excels in action, and is of itself a great first-person shooter experience all its own. The loot collection is just an added bonus, really. The entire game was very obviously made with consoles in mind, and very little was done to update the UI to make it more PC friendly.

All in all, Borderlands was an enjoyable experience, but has the potential to be so much more, and may very well be with the coming DLC. If you are looking to have a blast killing unique stuff and listen to some of the most hilarious voice overs and one-liners ever, especially from Clap Traps, then this is your game. Serious FPS gamers will find little to no challenge and almost no replay value in this game though, so be careful.

Very fun game, with loads of gun possibilities. Classes have plenty of customization to them, making it possible to focus on either single play or multiplayer (multiplayer makes it even more fun).

Zombie DLC has no car possibilities which, while befitting the theme, can be annoying. Still, the general humor of that DLC makes up for it.

Great game, lots of guns, rpg meets fps, what's not to love. The single player is great and has good replay value. The different class types let you play a different way each time which allows for many runs through the game. The pick-ups in the game add that feeling of hope that the gun on the ground will be some beast of a gun which adds to the excitement of the game. Overall great game, except for the multiplayer, that needs some work, but great single player game for a nice shooter.

Excellent RPG/Shooter. Compelling, appropriately sized open world environment. Refreshing comical style. Diablo inspired looting becomes very motivating. Although the game is reasonably easy, its strategics are still fun. I only took 1 or 2 breaks playing this game start to finish, and that's not to say the game is short by any means.

Action, specificial climate and many... sorry - countless upgrades of weapon and heroes. All in cell-shading mood so we feel we play like in comic book. 9/10 points and I may recommend it to all users likes action and many times with guns in hand!

Guns, guns, and more guns. This game is a loot fest that does not disappoint. When they said rpg meets fps, they were right on the button. I highly recommend this awesome game.

Though i'm not keen on the graphical style of the game, i have to admit this game has kept my attention nearly as much as Fallout 3. Both games are very similar FPS/RPG types, with Borderlands having more humor. For the price i got it for it was a steal, so much so i bought a copy for a friend so we can play co-op together.

Awesome game! I just love the co-op, leveling and weapons!

It's alot like Hellgate London, that is a future version of the diablo series. But Hellgate London gets boring after an hour... this dosen't...

Awesome game and great soundtrack. I love the multiple selections of weapons to choose from and ammo can always be found on enemies or storage chests throughout the game. Co-op play is great especially when dealing with high level bad guys. The dune buggy is a nice way to get around quickly until you get the instant teleporter online. All in all its a fun game to play alone or with friends; definite buy.

this game was what i was waiting for since renegade, for a fun teamwork based shooter. ive been playing it online with a friend and we beat the main story in a couple of plays. the zillions of guns kept me interseted because every time i had a gun that was my oh sh*t button for a while another, stronger gun would drop off a random enemy or come from a gun chest. some people may dis the cell shaded grafics but i thought they were a break from the norm. the story is a bit lacking but the game is full of funny one liners, and if you read what the npcs have to say when turning in missions they can be hilarious at times. i gave it a five out of five

Excellent game for a quick shootem up. Plenty of guns and a rather expansive world. Main story is a little dull. But lets face it, that's not what people would buy this game for. the Cartoony style graphics almost turned me off as a little corny. however i still bought it and was pleasently surprised, it actually works really well. deffinatly more fun in mulitplayer mode (if you can find a good group to join)

Ok I agree with Trustleft's review its an awesome game but here are the major pitfalls.

Multiplayer has serious problems after many hours of frustration port forwarding and trying diffrent things just to be able to play a private game with friends. This is not possible unfortunatly specialy if you have diffrent version of the game.. Example Gamers Gate version, Steam Version and Retail versions.. all these version are incompatable with each other so if you bought your copy of Borderlands thinking you could just hook up with anyone your sorely mistaken:(

My second major beef with this game is the updates and Download content.. some suppliers like gamers gate haven't got access to DLC or the latist patchs which makes it hard to be compatable with other gamers on the net.

And as for DLC Gamers Gate have told me they are having problems getting the expansion add ons to run on their web site whichs sucks because steam has all the expansions why do they get special attention while the rest of our versions must suffer the waiting game.

This Sounds like a ploy by Steam to charge what they like for the game and not compete with companys like Gamers Gate on prices because they have something no one else has and so they rasie there prices because on one can compete!

Other then that the games Single play is great only one issue i have is im sure targeting with a sniper rifle is bugged because its my highist skill and when i aim and shoot something im dead on target for it seems to miss, i swich out weapons to say combat rifle which i have much less skill level and targeting is fine it hits the Spot..

For those who have played Diablo 2, this is a first person shooter with very similar game mechanics and the option to play the game's campaign as a 2-4 player coop or single player.

For those who have not played Diablo 2.

This is a first person shooter, set in the future on an alien and almost barren world. Your character (one out of four possible) has to find the truth behind the legend of the Vault. A mythical or real place on this planet, ready to make you rich, powerful etc. You are set to explore this planet till you reach the end of the game. There are several main missions that are directly bound to the storyline, and many many more sidemissions, that exist for your character to gain experience and money and weapons. Lots of weapons.

As you go your way to explore missions (on foot or when you can driving a buggy) you meet interesting alien animal life and abandoned, now crazy, human convicts, and kill them. The missions are of the "kill B" or "get thing X for me, and kill everything in between" variety. So, all of them although different, are very similar missions, at least the sidemissions. The main missions have better variety, but don't expect anything special.

Everything in the game is done in such a way to fight all the time. Spawning of fauna and humans. Just because you cleared one camp site, don't expect it to remain empty when you return from your mission or whenever you come back through the area.

Thankfully it doesn't reach the levels of respawning of Far Cry 2 where after 1-2 min you had another platoon in place, but still it exists. The good thing about it is that it is so much fun fighting in this game. Weapons, melee and even your special hawk (if you are one of the characters), work like a charm and it is simply fun to shoot stuff.

One major selling point for this game is the amount of weapons available. Apparently it reaches into the millions. I am level 27 (out of 50 possible) and about 25 or so hours in the game and I haven't seen the millions of weapons, but I have seen thousands of them. All different. Not always in looks, but in stats at the least. Various damage, elemental powers (special damage like fire, toxic, anti shield electric, explosive), range, accuracy, rate of fire, ammo capacity, etc, generated on the fly.

Spread along your way are various containers, be it boxes, cases, fridges, washing machines, contain weapons, ammunition, MODS (give abilities to yourself or your personal shield), grenades and of course money.

Money that can be used to buy (or sell) equipment from various shop all around the maps. Different type of shops sell either ammo/grenades and their upgrades, weapons, healing kits and shields.

Their inventory change often and randomly. Every about 20 min there is new stock. Yes, there are THAT many weapons available!

The game is not without its problems, but it is still a very fun game to play that deserves your time an
