Blue Libra review

Blue Libra is a fun little diversion that plays a bit like Galcon Fusion or Mayhem Intergalactic only you can produce 9 different unit types from fighters to battle ships. You set up production quickly and it automatically produces new units to replace lost ones. The Galactic map mode eases you in with increasing challenge. Skirmish mode generates a random map and, so far, is kicking my butt. I'm sure I need to learn my unit production better but I'm really having fun with this gem.

Worth $5 :P

So what is this game your wondering? Think of RISK, only with 6-7 unit types. It's pretty cool from what I've seen when you take in consideration they only want $5, I've been playing it for 4-5 hours. Bug-free on Win 7, 64 bit. (Awesome!) There's still more content to go as well. Well worth the purchase in my opinion.

I have not played the multiplayer, I doubt I will, but I'll update if I do try it out.

-Summary-

Pros; 20mb download, Easy to learn, hard to master, sound effects/music are decent

Cons; Graphics aren't that great (units fade when damaged), no cinematics/voiceovers, occasional typing errors, upgrade tree is not very detailed sometimes.

One caveat I noticed, scrolling is a real pain in this game! Make sure to check if the map scrolls, cause sometimes you'll be all over the place trying to find that last planet you didn't take over yet.

Excellent game for the small price you have to pay. The story of the game ressemble a little bit that of Homeworld; you just lost your homeworld and you escaped with a mothership which can create smaller ships. You have to defend and attack against an evil empire.

The gameplay is fairly basic but quite addictive. Basicaly, you start in space with your mothership and you have to capture planets that will create more ships while your ennemy does the same. Then you have to attack while defending your planets and choosing the right cobination of ships to attack the ennemy's ships weaknesses. One thing special is the fact that to move your ships you have to draw a line with your mouse from the fleet to the destination. At first I was a little taken aback by this but after 2 missions I think it is a very easy and innovative way of moving your ships. It allows for fast manoeuvering and decisions. It was very easy to get used to. Oh there's an upgrade system too for your ships.

The 2D sprites are very original in my opinion and I like a lot the design of the game. The music is good too, very relaxing and ''space like''.

I reccomend this game to anyone who likes easy to learn 2D games and space battles!

I was very happy of my purchase and I'm looking forward to new games from the developers.
