Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg review

A platformer with a unique concept (using eggs, and the creatures who hatch from the eggs as a tool to overcome obstacles), but doesn't manage to live up to what it could be. Gameplay is fun, but can easily get repetitive and frustrating.

Very fun platformer, overshined by many other competitors during it's time. Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg is easily worth the small fee, as it'll grant you an amazing experience.

Probably the most noteworthy game to find on GamersGate simply as GameCube titles didn't usually get translated to PC.

Billy is a creation of the Sonic Team, and like the hedgehog games, features aesthetically interesting and colorful worlds and characters.

The game play is fast paced and enjoyable featuring many large eggs that need to be found and rolled around the gaming world collecting enough fruit to hatch and reveal the surprise inside.

Eggs can be used to bounce on to reach otherwise unaccessible areas, take down enemies through multiple uses as a weapon and to knock open secrets.

Like other Sega titles, Billy is challenging enough for adults that grew up with Sonic from his debut and still easy and engrossing enough for their children.

I'm not quite sure how readily available a boxed copy of this game in the states but I've seen absolutely no hard copies in Zealand and this is the only digi distrib site that I'm aware of to enlist Billy in their library.

GG has plenty of nice surprises if you have time to search its entire catalogue from the 'All' category but, for me, this was GG's biggest surprise and one of the first games here that I immediately jumped on.

BTW game works awesome with a gamepad and the camera is such that you don't need to map your mouse to an analogue stick.

Billy Hatcher is an excellent, under appreciated Platformer! Fast and fun and plenty deep. Because it was made by Sonic Team it has the same sense of fun and adventure that the best Sonic games have, but that's where the similarities end. The graphics, because of their cartoony nature hold up surprisingly well. My only gripe would be the limited number of resolutions it supports, also it has no support for widescreen resolutions, so know that if you have a widescreen monitor, it's gonna stretch. Also please note that this is one you'll want to play with a controller for sure, keyboard and mouse just won't cut it.

I think this game is nice, but not perfect! I played it for a while and it just seems ok. The graphics are a little bit old (even Sonic Adventure DX has better graphics), but it is fun to play. I'm using my XBox 360 controller without any problems. I've also tried a GC controller with a USB adaptor and it works nicely. It does feel you're playing the original game on the console with better graphics. I've enjoyed playing it in battle too.

This is an excellent console game for PC. I do not own any video game consoles and Im always looking for new PC ports of console games. The graphics and gameplay are fun, but the camera angle can get in the way at times. It appears they are using the same camera engine they used in Sonic Adventure DX. Another thing that is highly reccomended is the Logitech Dual Action or Logitech Rumblepad 2. Without these two controllers I cannot guarantee perfect playability with any other controllers. I also tested out the XBOX 360 controller on this title , and it appears its not completely compatible (the camera keeps spinning in game)

If you are really looking to play this game, and you dont mind shelling out the bucks for the reccomended controller, go for this game otherwise you would be better off purchasing this for the Nintendo Gamecube and have the ability to play it properly.
