Bionic Commando Rearmed - A great HD remake

By Dakar15 posted 22nd March

Bionic Commando Rearmed is in all its glory an HD remake of the old glassic "Bionic Commando", it is a sidescrolling shooter, which uses the bionic arm as its special thing.

Let us start with the first thing about the game, it is an HD remake, and it is actually a good one at that, this HD remake is not just a resolution upgrade, but also a graphics update. They have completely revamped all of the graphics through the hole game, without loosing any off the bright colors from the first one.

Then we have the gamplay, it is a sidescrolling shooter which does not use mouse, but either keybord or controller, but it is still a good game with good gameplay. Then their is the bionic arm, which is used to get up the levels and get over ledges it workes great, though it takes a little time to learn to use it in a great mannor.

all in all it is a good and hard game so i give it 4 out of 5 stars.

Awesome remake of a classic game

By Mupod posted 15th March

Bionic Commando Rearmed is what a remake should be. Doesn't deviate from the original very much outside of some gameplay improvements, adds lots of content, looks nice and has an awesome remixed soundtrack. When it came out it redefined the level of quality expected from $10 XBLA/PSN games and to this day is still a fine game for the price. Highly recommended.

The soundtrack to Bionic Commando: Rearmed is a fantastic piece of work, a deft contemporary reworking of classic 8-bit NES tunes. In fact, it's so good that Capcom put it up for sale on the iTunes Store months ago to build hype for the game.

Keeping very close to it's arcade roots, yet presented in a very modern day form, this game is a gem. If you're looking for a retro-ish arcade platform experience this is your game.

Bionic Commando: Rearmed is a worthy remake for anyone who's a fan of the original Bionic Commando. They clearly put a lot of effort into this and it's definitely worth a purchase. It's just a pity the sequel isn't available on PC.

If your not a pc gamer you can also get this game on xbox live and psn as well first off ive fully played the psn version and its a little short but mind you there are plenty of challanges and hidden collectables to get as you make progress through the game the only gripe i have is the inability to jump ...

Even after its successor is released, Rearmed still is considered the best Bionic Commando game. As somebody who enjoyed all of them, including the not well received reboot, I'd say that it is a matter of taste. The graphics are colorful, the music is great, controls are tight and the difficulty is hard but bearable. If you have never played BC, rather pick yup BC:Rearmed 2 but if you already went through that and want a chance to proof that you don't need to jump, then this is your game.

Very enjoyable platformer, recreating the original game with a modern feel. Smooth, responsive controls and slick design make the game feel very solid. The graphics are simple but bright, clear and effective. I would definitely recommend this as a fun diversion regardless of whether you know anything about the original.

A game that truly stays true to the original, and at the same time adds so much. And when I say adds, I mean graphics, nice music, and just generally a nice experience for anyone familiar to the original. For anyone else, I would recommend getting Bionic Commando, also from swedish developer Grin, instead.

Very fun title, refining the gameplay of the NES version, a great graphical style, and a very amusing sense of humor. Great 2d art by Shinkiro (which still amuses me, going from being pretty much the SNK flagship artist to working for Capcom), and a whole lot of challenges.

Excellent game, and fully aware o what it can and should do.

Definitely one of the best remakes I've ever played. Stays faithful to the original so much that even majority of the levels are the same as in the original. That doesn't mean the game hasn't improved though. Bosses come in more variety now, weapons have more 'oomph' and so forth. I loved the original on NES, and enjoyed playing through this remake twice, and even convinced a cousin to try the co-op mode with me, which ended up in us playing through the entire game. Highly recommended to anyone who enjoys retro-style games or action platformers!

Great remake of the original Bionic Commando for the NES. If you were a fan of the game back in the day, then definitely you'll love it. The graphics, sound, and gameplay are all top-notch. And it's a great rendition of an old classic.

Great game! A modern update which actually manages to capture the essence of the original game. I have played through and beaten the original NES game dozens of times, so this is high praise. The game can be refreshingly difficult, but is fair. Also has a great sense of humor and lots of nice little homages to the original that only some of the most ardent fans would catch. Highly recommended. Though I do want to kick Capcom in the balls for not porting the sequel to the PC. GRRRR.

I gave it a 5 star! Actually, I bought and played this months ago, I just recall that I had this game after seeing the new bionic Commando sequel for this game. Its a shame GG isn't selling the sequel, but I hope they do. As for this game, it really brings back memories. I like everything about it, from music, to graphics to its modified game play. I hope Grin makes/revives more 'NES' games in the future. Overall, I really recommend this game. Its very cheap to be passing up on this one, it will be regrettable to be passing up on this one.

Very amazing game! A lot more fun than the original! Kind of unfortunate that it has kinda steep requirements but that doesn't ruin any classic old school fun that this game is sure to offer!

Great remake of an old classic for some of us. It can get kind of frustrating in some of the levels where you have to swing just right etc but this is how it works with any platform type games. If you played the original you can't pass this up. If you never saw it before, here is your chance with a very well done upgrade in graphics.

By gcosta posted 5th October 2009

Hello,

This is a fun game, better than the 3D version that came out after, although even that version is not too bad.

This is a 2D platformer arcade-adventure game where you use your bionic arm to get around. Moving around can be a little confusing at first if you've never played the original arcade game, etc., but you get used to it very quickly.

This game can be a bit tough, but that's just the way the game is. Still, it is a very enjoyable game at a good price.

Worth getting.

BC Rearmed features highly detailed graphics, smooth gameplay and overall a great experience even if the basic premise is not really popular anymore.

You might want a controller with a good D-Pad though, playing it with analog is difficult as the game requires good precision with the grappling arm.

Level and bosses design are good enough that are difficult but not frustrating, except when going for secret areas when extra precision is needed. Challenge rooms provide additional difficulty and might even be a good practice for the main adventure.

The game has a nice amount of unlockables, fun overhead levels and the feeling of a complete old school package. Recommended to anyone looking for that 90's experience.

Although I've had a NES when I was a kid, I never got to play the original Bionic Commando, but now I really regret it. This game is just perfect, the gameplay might look somewhat frustating in the beginning, but once you get the hang of it, it will be a little bit easier but still a lot challenging. The only sad thing is the impossibility to save when you want, so try not to die in a level or you'll have to go all over that particular level again. But yes, it saves everytime a level is finished.

This is a very enjoyable, well put together game, a complete game play experience. The controls are smooth and the graphics, while not cutting edge at all, are very fun and nice to look at.

I've never played the original, and I often get frustrated at platform games. This one can be frustrating a bit, because you cannot save and you have to re-do your acrobatics on each level if you fail too many times. However, as someone who is prone to getting frustrated by platform games, it is much better than most in that regard.

What a great remake. Improved with new boss battles and interspersed with hilarious text and stillpicture cutscenes. Top notch production values across the board.

The only problem I've got with it is that some challenge rooms are insane nutty annoying and impossible. Completely impenetrable. And you never know if you'll get an impossible room or a really easy one as there's really no good ramping up of difficulty as they're numbered.

In terms of how much text I devoted to the slight negative taste of the challenge rooms vs talking about everything else generally, it's not as big a deal overall as I made it out to be.. in character volume.

The package is still a straight up 5/5 stars. And to top it off you get the classic redhaired cool sunglasses wearing hero unlocked and ready for the completely new completely 3D Bionic Commando coming soon.

This game pays respect to an old classic and saves the new hopefully also classic. What a complete CLASS ACT. Fantastic.
