Set inside the heavily fortified walls of a sprawling district in the heart of Gotham City, this highly anticipated sequel introduces a brand-new story that draws together a new all-star cast of classic characters and murderous villains from the Batman universe, as well as a vast range of new and enhanced gameplay features to deliver the ultimate experience as the Dark Knight.

Batman Arkham City Game of the Year Edition review

omg, its seems like a sin to have bought this game on sale. This is hands down one of the most addicting action games I've played so far - and I'm not much of an action fighting game fan. I'm more of a strategy guy. But this game requires just as much brain as brawn - just like the Dark Knight himself. I've never played a video game that immerses you not just because of the environment, but also as being the main character. For chrissakes - you actually FEEL LIKE BATMAN! Seriously, every night, before I sleep, it has become a ritual. I put on the cowl and prowl the streets of Arkham City. Hands down game of the year, and years to come!

Playing Batman without sound is so disappointing.

Batman Arkham City takes place after Batman Arkham Asylum which was a pretty good game in my opinion. There was for sure place to enhancements, but the base was built strong. Warner did a great job in continuing the story, but failed incredibly technically.

First I must point out that I bought the game digitally. Near the end of the installation, an error message pops out. After some researches on the Internet, I found out that you have to put the files in a folder that does not contain any spaces, otherwise the game will not install.

Then, once the game was installed, I decided to play it in another language than English. Second mistake. Apparently this game does not like this language. In a lot of dialogues, you see people talking and no sound comes out of the speakers. You have to enable the subtitles if you want to understand the story. Apparently, there is no patch for this bug other than playing in English. I just find this inconceivable nowadays.

These bugs pushed aside, the game is good, but the story is really short. As it was the case in Arkham Asylum, the Mystery Man enigmas longer the game a lot, but if you do not want to do them all (400 in this game), you will pass quickly through the game (around 6 hours). You better have to rent the game in this case. If you want to complete every challenges and side missions, expect a good 40 hours. They can all be completed if you have a lot of patience. Some are trial and error quests and some need more reflection. Completing some of the side missions will leave you unsatisfied, as it was the case in Arkham Asylum.

If you buy the Game of the Year Edition, you have few dlcs included. Catwoman adds few missions to the story as well as 40 additional enigmas. The story will take you around 1.5 hours and expect few hours to complete the enigmas. The story is played at the same time as the main story is played with Batman.

Harley Queen's revenge adds around 2 hours to the story. It is recommended to play it after completing the story since it contains spoilers. It is nice as you can play with Robin.

The other dlcs only adds challenges. I will not write a lot on these since I really have no interest in them. If you played them in Arkham Asylum, you will be very familiar here. You need to take down enemies from different ways, eliminate them in a certain amount of time, etc... If you like these kind of challenges, you will not be disappointed since there are a lot of them.

Other than that, playing as Batman is still very enjoyable. You have a lot of gadgets, including a couple of new ones as well as some others that were in the previous game.

Once the game is completed, you can play it on new game plus mode, which allow you to change skins and be able to use all of your gadgets right at the beginning, but that definitely is not a must for anyone other than for the trophies/achievements hunters.

If you have not played Batman Arkham City yet, I would say that you might want to look for it if you are a fan of the series, but you better got to buy it in hard copy, not digitally.

The game is so great compared to Batman arkham asylum.

The plotline is great to. Now wanting to spoil anything but you enjoy it. And the openworld like the old game but even more now as you can travel around the city.

Then we have that you can play as catwoman. I don't see why you shouldnt get this game. Perfect

Owned the regular edition of this on the PS3 and loved it, but was very annoyed when the GOTY Edition released shortly afterwards with all the add-ons. Simply put one of the best Batman games out there.. the free roaming approach to the city, with tons of sidequests and the ability to approach things from different angles appealed to me. Added to it was the continued content even after you've beaten the game.... giving it something to hold the players interest after the final act... Definitely worth the money!

Batman Arkham City Game of the Year Edition review

If you were a fan of Arkham Asylum then you won't be disappointed with this sequel. Arkham City adds, well, a city for Batman and Catwoman to explore. While the story isn't as engaging as the first one, there are improvements to boss battles, the addition of several side missions, and the riddle puzzles are actual puzzles. Boss battles aren't simply titans and goons (though there is some of that). They offer a nice change of pace. The riddler trophies can test your brain power as well as you ability to use the remote batarang. Bringing down the Riddler this time takes a lot more than just upgrading your tool belt. There are several side missions that along with riddler challenges and trophies allow nice distractions from the main story. Again, one feels like the Dark Knight, swooping out of the shadows to save political prisoners or investigating crime scenes. The atmosphere is excellent as is the sound track and voice acting. The makers of the game did an excellent job on expanding what worked from the first game.

There are a few complaints however. There were 3 problems I had with Arkham Asylum - fighting, cameras, and grappling. And all those problems still exist. While fighting your character will attack the wrong person or fail to make a connection which isn't a big problem in the game, but it is an issue in Riddler challenges. The camera work might be worse than the previous game. Any time you miss a move or roll toward a wall the camera zooms into your body blocking much of the screen. Worse, during certain boss battles the camera will make brutal 180 degree turns while you are trying to dodge or perform moves (adding to the targeting issues when fighting). In augmented reality training, the game puts movement and camera controls onto the mouse forcing you to do some of these challenges blind. I don't understand why there isn't a targeting mechanic for grappling. It wasn't a big issue in AA, but in AC grappling is a major aspect in getting around the city. A ledge that is dead center of the screen is ignored for a ledge 1 block behind you. It sometimes feels like the controls are the toughest enemy in the game.

I was also disappointed that the hardest play through option (lockdown) had to be unlocked by first completing the main story. And I still don't get the idea of exp - as if batman isn't prepared for the challenges ahead. It just sort of feels unnecessary.

While the game isn't a technical marvel the experience is a ton of fun.

An Excellent Game . The best Batman game i have ever played. While playing the game, we start thinking like batman. Gameplay is not at all repetitive. Well Arkham Asylum felt repetitive towards the end . Well Arkham City is a must buy
