Avernum 6 is one of the best CRPGs I have played recently. It is a turn based game in which you lead a group of four soldiers of the Avernum army who can be any of three races each with their own advantages and disadvantages. Once you have picked race you can then select from several premade classes or you can build your own, so there is some nice customarily for an indie game. The story is in my opinion well written and it is stand alone, i.e. there is no need to have played the previous games in the series to enjoy this one however, I thoroughly recommend playing them at some point if you enjoy this one. The graphics are what should be expected of an indie developer and they may not be for everyone, I enjoy just fine and personally feel they are well done. All in all if you enjoy CRPGs at all I high recommend Avernum 6 and the other titles by Spiderweb Software.

This game, despite the dated graphics, is pretty fun as a hack and slash adventure. There is a decent amount of ability for you to customize your characters and the writing is satisfactory for an RPG. The plot isn't particularly engaging but the multitude of quests and dialog is enough to keep you interested. If you want an old school rpg made with love (rather than raw polygons) give it a shot. I personally like the fact that someone is staying true to the old ways and not wasting vast amounts of time creating state of the art graphics only to let the game play suffer.
