GAME SUMMARY

Auralux

Rating: 4.3 (27 votes cast)

Auralux is an abstract, essentialized, and simplified real-time strategy game.

You have only one type of unit to command and only one type of order to give those units. You and your opponents start the game with equal resources. Quick reflexes will get you nowhere. The only path to victory is through clever strategy.
Auralux features a slow, floating feel and gorgeous minimalistic graphics. The entire world pulses to the rhythm of ambient music, and the player's actions evoke sounds that smoothly coalesce into melody.

This game is meant to provide a relaxing, cerebral experience. Every action has its reaction, and every option has its costs. Auralux is a game in which your choices matter.

Features:

  • Compelling and cerebral gameplay in which all your choices count
  • 18 levels, each presenting a unique strategic puzzle
  • An unlockable Speed Mode for expert players

Auralux review

By echelonone posted 23rd October 2011

Auralux succeeds in doing just what it intends to do. It brings to the table a simple, accessible, compact experience, and does it all without sacrificing the fun, or excitement of a true RTS. It truly boils the genre down to its roots, and I could see a game like this being a gateway game for anyone who has ever been unsure about the RTS genre, or even an excellent pass-time for those who are actively seeking a fresh new RTS experience. A $5 dollar price tag may be a little steep, but I can still comfortably recommend it to those willing to take on the higher difficulty levels. Here’s to hoping that this universe just keeps expanding.

I would recommend this game. As described it does have a soothing and relaxed mood. The gameplay is simple and mildly challenging. The graphics and sound are exceptionally smooth and pleasing. The gameplay basically comes down to massing swarms of lively units and unleashing them enmasse onto planets or invading swarms. What I find most interesting, is that sometimes I feel like I have a birds-eye view of an ancient battle. Each individual unit is constantly in motion, giving the massed swarms a palpatable vitality. Hence the comparison to ancient battles, where masses of warriors would crash into each other. Units in conflict destroy each other, so battles are a numbers game of massing a bigger swarm. The AI is simple, but lively, so games are always challenging, though you will likely beat each level on first try.
